I think Sami and Lucas was one of those ideas which JER always had and on paper I think it would have worked but in reality it didn't click for me. Of course I might feel differently if the time they were together the longest (2006-2007) hadn't had such awful writing.

Arianna doesn't remind me of Teresa, perhaps because when I watched Passions, Teresa was a crazy stalker. I didn't see her heroine years. Rafe does remind me of Luis. Brady/Ethan, I can see that. I don't really mind as I didn't care for Lowder's Brady.

Even during Jer's reign I always though Sami & Lucas was more of a teaser or just an added component to characterize Sami and more importantly (with Jer's writing approach) keeping a sesnse of suspense within the plot, I never saw them as endgame. Didn't see them as endgame after, Datillo isn't a strong enough actor to keep Lucas up to be leading man for Sweeney's Sami (while Sweeney barely crack my top leading ladies on soap this decade, she does Sami well and she is proving more and more to be leading material, she has definitly grown much her start). I thought they would have done this earlier and can see why they did, no room for him as has been said already in this thread.

darn, how awful. I like BD a lot and Lucas too. He has a very unique presence to him. In a soapworld where so many actors and actress all look and sound alike, he stood apart.

Lucas shouldn't be a leading mean. He's a supporting character and in soaps, you need supporting characters. Lucas is a great one (or should be) since he still has a family in town.

Yeah, and IMO you can be a supporting player without being a prop, something the writers failed to do with Lucas since he came out of his coma in 2002. Except Higley's time as HW in 2003, she gave Lucas a life outside of Sami's when he worked for Tony.

Not a Lucas fan by any means, but it's unfortunate for BD, sucks loosing your job, best of luck to him.

They're slowly fading out the Roberts/Reeds. Kate will probably go next.

Ali Sweeney tweeted that she didn't know Bryan had taped his last episode and she's devastated. Sounds like Lucas will get a Steve/Kayla type of exit.

Im sorry if i sound harsh, because i dont mean to be. I like Bryan, i think he is a great guy and awesome dude. A real team player. However, Lucas hasnt worked in yars. The last time he really worked was when he and Sami first got together back in 2003. Since then he just has not fit anywhere. And not by his own fault by any means, but still. His fallback has always been with Sami and he is not needed there anymore because she has a far more interesting dynamic with EJ and a current romance with good guy Rafe. All he is at this point is sami's baby daddy.

That's the thing though JP, they COULD have written for him, but they didn't, they chose to focus on other characters I know I don't give two craps about. Does EJ even serve a purpose anymore(not that he ever did), Daniel sure doesn't, and others. Why not get rid of the dead weight and write for Lucas.

I think it's like w/ Scott DeFreitas (ex-Andy) and why HE was let go from ATWT. Someone - either at NBC, or at Sony - just doesn't think Dattilo is "hunky" enough.

I doubt he's making big bucks. Plus you can negotiate a lower pay or put him on recurring. You don't really need a contract unless the writers have a plan to use you heavily. You don't need Lucas to be on 3 days a week. I'm disappointed we haven't had much Sami/Lucas scenes lately. I don't think Lucas has gone to see Sami since he got out of rehab. There should at least be an episode where Lucas goes to see Sami because Sydney's missing.

The thing lost in all this is that Bryan may not have wanted to stay because he probably knew what would happen. His interview in SOD a few weeks ago had a very bitter tone. He talked of the "Passions actors" and how James Scott had to be on five days a week. He realizes now it was over for him two years ago when the writers decided to whitewash EJ's crimes and destroy what was left of LUMI after JER. JER started the downturn and Sheffer finished it. The one thing Higley could've done was fix LUMI but she never got the chance with the Ed Scott debacle and then Tomlin/Whitesell came in.

Bryan was nearly axed twice in a 6 month period in the latter half of 2007. I don't know why he was spared in August 2007 but I do know he was spared at the end of the year due to his fans. Lucas was not supposed to be coming out of that jail. There were even rumors at the time of Lauren Koslow going too and Julie Pinson was axed as well. It became clear there was a plan to eliminate that whole family but something changed. They kept Koslow and Dattilo and only got rid of Pinson. Koslow may have gotten the good end of the deal as she is now married to Stefano but what did Dattilo get? He got a forced pairing with Chloe and then yet another affair story where he comes off looking like an idiot.

I think even if AS or the fans stepped up again on his behalf, he probably felt it best to go. It's clear Lucas has not been viewed as anything worthy from a character standpoint in years now. Let Bryan go on to better things and, if nothing works out, you can always bring him back from time to time or even permanently when a story does come up. He was fired in 2001 and brought back a year later so it's possible and, personally, I doubt he will get work on another soap.

It's a shame that TPTB are axing Datillo, I think he's a fine actor, plus Lucas as a Horton, is a important character to remain on the show.

But they have tried, and it never worked. Many diff HE's have tried over the years.

Daniel or EJ to Sami, Bo, Maggie all serve whatever purpose the writers give them. What i am saying is that every purpose Lucas served is easily filled in by various other characters. He doesnt leave a void, and he is just like roman in that way.

I do find it amusing that on some boards people like to blame Sweeney. Thats amusing to me.

Nelson Branco is reporting that a source states that Datillo is a lot like Lucas in real-life, I think a big hint that Datillo has a drinking problem, which has been rumored before. Maybe DAYS can grab up a better actor to potray Lucas and change Lucas some in the process. A GL or ATWT actor might work in the role.... Maybe Michael Park(Jack, ATWT), Mark Collier(ex-Mike, ATWT), Daniel Cosgrove(ex-Bill, GL, soon to be out of job in the unnamed role on ATWT), Paul Anthony Stewart(ex-Danny, GL), or Stephen Martines(ex-Nikolas, GH) or Greg Vaughan(ex-Lucky, GH).

That's a very interesting thought. I just don't if they'd see Lucas pivotal enough to recast, especially if the main reason they would ever put Lucas back with Sami is because of Bryan and Alison's chemistry.

Does that mean she's going to be with Rafe or EJ?

They could have easily kept her together with Lucas assuming the show's ending within a few years.

She's with Rafe now, and there isn't really any signs of a reunion with EJ anytime soon...So I assume she will end up with Rafe, or maybe someone else, but something tells me she won't end up with EJ in the end.
