Lorraine Broderick as AMC head writer

More and more I'm getting the feeling that she's just intended to be interim, just stepping in to help keep things going until a permanent HW is named. If she were full time, they probably would've made some big announcement by now. My interpretation of all of this is that Pratt left of his own accord pretty suddenly and that they quickly had to get someone familiar with the show to keep it up until they could find someone long-term. This says to me that Frons was basically happy with Pratt and that things won't change very much under a new HW. I hope I'm wrong.

No, I think he was definitely fired. And I think it took a lot of persuading to get Lorraine Broderick to return. I don't think she'd be back if she knew she had to deal with corporate's crap.

Who really knows what went on behind the scenes. I tend to believe he left of his own accord, just because I don't think they'd fire someone on the spot, probably have to continue paying off his contract til it expires, and then have to scramble to find someone ASAP. That wouldn't seem too prudent, especially in this economy and with the timing of the move. I have a gut feeling that Frons doesn't think there are any major problems with the show and that whoever is writing the show will have to abide by Frons' agenda. Again, just a hunch about all this.

I like it very much that people are cautious about this. No one is saying Lorraine Broderick will save daytime! or any such nonsense. :)

We want her to do well. So too much fanfare from the beginning will set her up for failure. She won't be getting her own promo like Pratt and McTavish did.

Well, of course not. She's not Tom Casiello.

I agree, too much hype for LB and it could backfire. We as AMC fans have been burned too much. Everyone thought Pratt would be AMC's savior and look what he's done to the show

But who posted that rumour about Frons giving Pratt an ultimatum to get a grip or else walk out the door?

Nelson Branco posted that. I'm not sure about Pratt suddenly leaving, I do think he was given till Nov. sweeps to shape up or ship out. It's bad writing when May sweeps and November sweeps featured the same story.

Everyone thought Pratt was AMC's savior?! On what universe? Everyone said a collective "WTF?!" when it was announced Pratt was hired.

I think people felt that way after they found out he was killing off Babe.

I thought Pratt's material was excellent from August 08-December 08. Once we hit January, stuff started to suck, and soon enough everything was spinning out of control.

:lol::lol::lol:

How come you picked Tom and not Ron? A tough choice it must have been.

I was not part of that "everyone." In fact, I stated the opposite in the directors and writers thread when Pratt was originally hired: that the person AFTER Pratt would save All My Children. Let's hope I'm right! :)

I don't understand this whole Broderick situation. So, she's back, as an AHW, but they can't name her officially or anyone for that matter as of yet? :huh:

I don't understand why she would want to came back for the short-term, or why Frons would hire her for the short-term, if she wasn't going to be officially handed the HW position. How much can she possibly accomplish if someone else is going to replace her soon enough anyway? :huh:

Maybe ABC and Broderick didn't want to fully commit to each other until both sides saw some real progress. At least this way, if things don't work out both sides can save face and part ways. And if things do work out ABC will give her the hw title.

I still wonder if ABC brought her back to help train a new headwriter, and if they never had any plans for this news to leak or get such attention.
