Toni Braxton joins Atlantic

  • Members
Atlantic Records is proud to announce the addition of legendary R&B superstar Toni Braxton to its storied roster. The multiple Grammy Award-winning singer will unveil her hugely anticipated label debut on February 2nd, 2010.

"Atlantic Records has a rich heritage of great soul voices, from Ray Charles to Aretha Franklin, from Otis Redding to Roberta Flack," said Atlantic Chairman/CEO Craig Kallman. "Last year, we had the rare opportunity to bring another R&B icon into the Atlantic family, and for me it was an opportunity of a lifetime. Toni Braxton is not only one of the greatest voices of all time, but she is a charismatic superstar with an incredible list of achievements. She has sold over 40 million records worldwide, has had 15 Top Ten Billboard hits, earned six Grammy Awards, and the list goes on and on. Above all, there has always been that fantastic voice, filled with passion and beauty and soul. I believe that Toni has made the most spectacular album. It's the culmination of everything that has come before… a brilliant reflection of her experiences in music and in life. It's the start of an exciting new chapter – one which all of us at Atlantic are so very proud to be part of."

"Yesterday," the first single from the album, is now on sale exclusively at www.ToniBraxton.com. A companion video – directed by famed filmmaker Bille Woodruff, known for such classic Braxton clips as "Un-Break My Heart" and "He Wasn't Man Enough" – was filmed earlier this month in Los Angeles and is currently in post-production with a premiere date to be announced later.

The as-yet-untitled album looks to be Toni's most powerful and personal musical statement to date. Braxton personally chose to collaborate with a veritable who's-who of red-hot producers and songwriters, including Frank E (Madonna, T.I., Plies, Flo Rida), Steve Mac (Leona Lewis, Il Divo), Lucas Secon (Britney Spears, The Pussycat Dolls), Harvey Mason & Oak (Chris Brown, Joe, Mario), Troy Taylor (Trey Songz, Kevin Lyttle), Dapo Torimiro (John Legend, David Archuletta, Brandy), and David Foster (Whitney Houston, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion). What's more, the album features a guest appearance from Toni's new Atlantic labelmate, R&B/hip-hop sensation Trey Songz, who lends his distinctive vocal stylings to the aforementioned single, "Yesterday."

Who cares if the album cover is cheap...lol

I do. LOL! I love looking trough artwork and photography for albums. Her album cover looks like they photoshopped it for 5 minutes and left it at that.

The important thing is/are the songs good??

Given the first single, I'm leading towards no.

She hasn't had a hit in years.

And she won't again, IMO. She's one of those artists that had her time in the 90's and it's over. I don't see her getting mainstream pop success again, she'll probably score minor R&B hits though. The album might debut within the top 10, but it won't have any longevity.

So Yesterday did very well on the R&B charts, so she could have a gold album. It's possible. She's aiming for a different market, not mainstream pop. About 14 tracks have leaked and this album is going to be mega hot. I can't wait. She's releasing a double A side next of Hands Tied and the uptempo Make My Heart which is a gay dream. She's already shot both videos.

I'm back on the Toni love train! I hope her record label promotes this right and she can do well. I'd love to see her live. Make My Heart won be over.

You are so yesterday?!

She just needs to give up trying to appeal to these 12-25 year olds and sing her signature suicide notes.

Made me think of This-

Thank you, Chris! :)

I see that the whole album leaked.

I'm actually surprised because I liked Yesterday and the video as well! Granted, it's not a masterpiece, but I don't think it was that bad. Why, I don't even have a problem with the album cover!!!

That Make My Heart video and song however.... yuck. Now that's bad!

It's so camp it's going to be an aquired taste, but Hands Tied is very traditional so you might like that. I wonder if Make My Heart is meant more for the European audience since shes doing so much promo there.

Here's the vid for Hands Tied which is already doing very well on Urban radio. Almost 4 million listeners putting it at #15. Keep in mind it's only been sent to Urban AC, not Urban or Rhythmic yet.

I'm in love with it.

And that's what worries me... Well two things--I think it almost always backfires when labels decide to release different singles in different countries (Kylie fans who know the mess the X campaign was singles wise know what I'm talking about--of course Heart was produced by Lucas Secon who has done a track on Kylie's new album).

I also am not sure Toni *should* do a song "for the kids". Don't get me wrong, half of the music I listen to seems to be from singers who are over 40 (Donna Summer being an obvious example) and I'm all for them keeping their sound current. But, Toni's biggest hits largely have been MOR radio hits, and I just watch that video and gotta wonder *who* it's directed at. (and yes I know my fave Kylie is the same age as Toni, but she knows her audience).

I know she's had many difficulties, but I'm kinda shocked this is only her sixth studio album...

I know a top 10 album is still something given all her problems reelasing an issue, but surely the label is disappointed by this:

"The album debuted at number nine on the US Billboard 200 chart with first-week sales of 54,000 copies, serving as Braxton's fifth US top-ten album.[28] It also entered at number one on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.[29] In Canada, Pulse debuted at number 72 on the Top 100 Albums chart,[30] and in the United Kingdom, it debuted at number 28 on the Top 40 Albums and at number seven on the R&B Albums chart.[31][32] In its second week Pulse sold 16,588 in the US.["

(That said I wouldn't even know she had an album if it wasn't for this forum--and I belong to several pop music forums like PopJustice, lol so...)

I didn't realize she had sung a cover of the Delta Goodrem track. And that so few critics had reviewed her apparently: http://www.metacritic.com/music/artists/braxtontoni/pulse
