I’m up to February 06, 1998.

Annie and Alan’s wedding day begins and Annie starts it by cornering Josh and taunting him that she’ll be happier than ever. She forces him into a kiss, which he backs out of and they cryptically wish each other for whatever things that happen, to come to them soon. Dinah is able to steal the piece of paper out of Reva’s purse that has the big secret she has on Annie, so now Dinah knows. Just as the wedding is about to start, Cassie realizes Dinah has the paper and pleads with her to give it back, but Dinah ends up lighting it on fire. During the ceremony, Dinah/Cassie argue in a back room and Dinah vows to support Annie and stop the righteous Lewis family. Just as she tries to leave, Cassie grabs her arm and punches her!!!  She then gags and ties her up so she can’t stop them from revealing the secret. Dinah deserved that haha. Since the paper is gone, their only chance is to have Eddie Banks show up with the truth, so they’re desperately trying to reach him. Harley is able to delay the wedding by stealing the rings, but Phillip gets agitated and gets them back. Annie/Alan say their vows, exchange rings, and just before they’re pronounced husband and wife, Eddie Banks storms through the door. Reva escorts him in and announces Alan/Annie can’t get married because Annie is married to Eddie! Annie starts denying it, but Eddie shows the marriage license. She continues denying it and pleads with Alan not to believe him. Eddie tells everyone about how she was presumed dead and he spent time in jail for her. Alan calmly apologizes to the guests and dismisses them. Annie tells Reva she will never win and she will beat her, as Alan escorts her away. Alan then dresses Annie down in private, says he despises her and walks out. Phillip sees Harley/Reva/Josh celebrating and gets upset with Harley for using him to stall the wedding. Harley said she didn’t think he’d mind, but Phillip angrily says that was his father and you can’t humiliate them like that. Beth overhears them arguing about it all. Later, they apologize to each other and we’re back to normal with these two.

Frank announces to Reva/Josh that Eddie’s claims are all checked out and true and Annie will go away for a long time on drug charges, fraud and bigamy. Wow! Frank then cuffs Annie and walks her through the crowd with cameras rolling and snapping; like a complete walk of shame. Annie is very stoic and calmly tells the audience at the top of the stairs “Thank you all for coming”, and walks out. Watros really nailed these scenes and I can see why she won the Emmy with this episode. Later, Eddie visits Annie in jail and she tries to con him by pretending to be in love with him again, trying to convince him they can have it all together. Eddie, who seems very gullible and still actually in love with her, almost seems to believe her, but Reva drops in and stops it. Eddie leaves and Reva taunts Annie quite a bit, leaving Annie to tell her that she’ll get out of jail one way or the other. Later, Alan visits Annie and tells her he’s been given a subpoena to testify in her extradition case (to Ohio). He also tells her in the fine print of the contract she signed are conditions that she violated and now all of her Spaulding stock is his and she’s left with nothing. Simply Annie (perfume line) is also dead and Alan has instructed Michael to destroy everything he’s created. He leaves while she screams that she hates him and he’s lousy in bed LOL. She then tries seducing a young, nervous officer and ends up kissing him. She later has her extradition hearing and Griffin, who is judge, ruled that the state of Ohio must take her and Reva/Josh celebrate the win. Annie then seduces the young police officer again and ends up knocking him out, stealing his keys and escaping jail!  She goes to Ben Warren for help and money, and they agree to work together. Annie then goes to Reva’s house in a police uniform and attacks Reva. Marah sees it and scream for help, Annie runs off and tells Reva she’ll be back to get her. Later, Reva convinces Cassie/Hart to go on their trip to Puerto Rico, she has the kids sent to stay with Rusty, and she gets out her gun and says she’ll be ready for Annie the next time she comes back!

Holly and Fletcher argue throughout the wedding about moving Meg and family to Toronto. She then strangely confides in Roger about their argument, in front of Fletcher, to which Roger is confused why she would tell him this information, and then she walks off (uhh Holly, still have feelings?). Later, Roger tells her she’s his touchstone, most significant thing ever in his life. Fletcher then admits to Holly that part of the reason he wants to move away is to get away from Roger so they can focus on their family without his interference.

Amanda tells Alan she wants nothing to do with Annie and her new perfume line. She wants to take over Spaulding West and move back to the west coast. Roger doesn’t take the news well, but Amanda promises to give half of Spaulding West to Roger when they get married.

Rick visits Michelle and she tells him she and Jesse have the WSPR tape and hid it at the lighthouse. Meanwhile, Jesse has thrown it away in the trash which Drew then takes out to the dumpster, but Shayne takes it out of the trash and brings it home with him. Abby is babysitting the kids and Shayne wants to record his cartoons over the tape. He starts playing the tape with the court room footage, but they get interrupted and don’t pay attention and the tape gets back into a pile of VHS tapes. Shayne ends up telling Ben about the tape, while Ross/Abby/Jesse realize Shayne probably has it from the trash, so it’s a race to get to the tape first. Ben ends up getting it first by paying a man to steal it from the Lewis house.

Matt sees Ross about his legal ability to force Vanessa into an early C-section. Ross says one way he could do that is by declaring her mentally incompetent. Meanwhile, Vanessa tearfully confides in Jenna, who at first sides with Matt, but then says she’s going to support Vanessa in anything she wants to do. Matt later tells Vanessa he met with Ross and what he intends to do if she won’t have the C-section and she flips out and says if he goes through with it, it’ll be the worst mistake of his life. OMG - Ross/Blake/Holly are chatting at home about Meg and Vanessa storms in, and without a word, slaps Ross LOL! Vanessa tells Blake/Holly about Matt’s lawsuit and they’re upset with Ross about it. Vanessa then falls in pain because her disease is coming back and they rush her to the hospital. Rick then tells Vanessa she’s in labor!  She needs a blood transfusion and Holly has the right blood type, so she volunteers. Baby Maureen is then born!  Sadly, she’s experiencing signs of kidney malfunction, which they want to keep from Vanessa. But, Matt tells Vanessa he wasn’t really going through with the lawsuit, she believes him and they make up. Vanessa keeps fainting at the hospital and she goes into cardiac arrest and then slips into a coma. Bill (finally!) shows up to the hospital. Oh no, Vanessa sees the white light and says she’s dying. She then sees Maureen in the white light and they hug, effectively making the viewer think Vanessa is dead and in heaven (Friday cliffhanger!). But surely Vanessa doesn’t really die, right? Can’t be.

While at the hospital, Roger tells Holly that he’s moving to California, and if she moves to Canada, they’ll probably never see each other again.

Dinah goes to the farm to take some of her stuff out and catches Cassie/Hart making out together in the barn. Lots of Dinah whining and screaming and Hart/Cassie sticking together. Dinah then calls her lawyer and asks her to look into a man named Rob Layne (Cassie’s ex husband and father of Tammy). Meanwhile, Tammy confides in Cassie that she really likes Hart, but misses her real dad.

Beth tries seducing Phillip yet again, by getting into her lingerie and asking them to get back together. Phillip says they’re never getting back together and she cries, runs out of the mansion past Harley, and gets hit by a car! Phillip is distraught thinking she is dead, but she wakes up and he apologizes to her. At the hospital, Beth tells Lillian what happens and Lillian thinks she could have gotten out of the way of the car and may be suicidal over Phillip not wanting her back.

That's news to me. I never heard she was pregnant in real life.

Cullen's pregnancy was written in. She talked on the Locher Room about how protective Jerry and Stephen were when she had to faint in the courtroom scene after Jennifer reveals she's her child.

After Amanda lost the baby, that's when they had her regress to acting like a child and dressing in big, Shirley Temple style dresses. She also sat at the piano a lot to hide her belly.

Deering was gone way before the rape story. She left around the time Ed and Holly got divorced.

Senior moment on my part lol

Cleaned up/Upscaled 1979 episode with Roger and Holly's rape. Elizabeth & Alan's battle over the custody of Phillip. Cindy Pickett was a treasure as the tormented Jackie.

@SoapDope, thank you for posting this episode. I have never seen the rape scenes in their entirety. Powerful stuff.

The soap critics adored Tammy Blanchard. So that may be why GL tried so hard to make the character work.

She went on to have a very successful post-soap opera career, both on Broadway and TV.

My thinking was that the show was in an odd place during her era where there weren't a lot of females in that age group outside of Michelle... and with her trapped in the Santos orbit.. it made sense to have another female character in that age range to have some focus.

It's just a shame that Drew wasn't revealed to be Ross's niece until after Dinah left the show since I imagine the two of them would have had a lot to talk about.. plus it was a shame that Phillip wasn't interacting with his Marler relatives by that point because I think he and Drew would have clicked.

I think the actor that played J also left so she was kind of backburnered until the show decided to make Drew a spoiler for Michelle/Jesse.

Yes, Rauch told the actor that he had a story coming right when he told them he wanted to leave. I would have liked Drew and J together..it would have been fun to see Nola deal with a little B like she used to be...though it woudl have been more fun if she was social climber like Nola.

Have soaps especially GL ever done a good record company story? WTH would a producer come to SF for talent and since he is black..he gets a name like "Sugar Hill."

This SHOULD have been the moment when Van wakes up and goes back to bitch mode. Since its Rauch/EB I would have had her forget everything from Billy on.. and run around town with a big ass hate being bitchy.

@alwaysAMC You're getting close to Annie exit. I didn't watch any clips/episodes past that.

@GL Oldtimer Any 1979 and 1980 episodes featuring Roger/Holly that surface are such a treat because those episodes set in motion everything we saw a decade later in the Calhoun era.

You mean between Harley and Phillip?

I saw posts about Drew. Didn't she have some storyline about finding her birth mom and then that character left anyway? I watched some of those character brief YouTube videos.

Wasn't Drew's mother Selena? Patti D'Arbanville wasn't happy and spoke up about it, and they fired her, didn't they?

Would've been better than the stupid clone. If not going back to her bitch roots, at least drop kicking dumb-ass M### out of her life.

But now I can't stop imagining Vanessa (acting like her younger self) cutting Dinah down to size.

Vanessa running around town crying to people for help is so much bullshit. Vanessa Chamberlain would've picked up, packed up and taken off on her own. Or at least planned to, instead morphing into Lily Walsh Snyder, perpetual damsel in distress. RME.

Vanessa got f%$# when they made her a pill addict who caused Reva's miscarriage.  It was great TV but Vanessa's character was the real victim AFAIC.

That's one of those stories you just shake your head and wonder WTF was going through Long's mind. The only real point of any of it was undoing the pregnancy that never should've been anyway. There's no real consequences--Reva gets out of an ill-advised marriage no one wanted, and Vanessa gets two weeks of rehab and is fine. Any argument between Van and Reva could've resulted in a fall causing the miscarriage.

At least Maeve got an emmy nomination out of it.

I hadn't realized Maeve got an Emmy nom for it.  Good.

You're right though. Fifteen years earlier on any soap an incident like that could have driven story between them for years. They all played it well. It felt like a big deal.

POOF! It was forgotten.

I don't mind that much that it was forgotten. I would've hated Reva being able to throw that in Van's face for years.

They do have one big blow up over it, where Reva just guts Vanessa at a dinner party Kyle throws after taking over Lewis. But there's no real follow through for that either that I've found. There might've been a little more tension, where you're expecting another blow out, but it never happens. Reva starts hanging around Kyle, and the story shifts to the secret of Billy's maternity.

I can't remember if Patti was unhappy, but I think her firing was almost two years after that story started. From what some have said, she was getting big for her britches around then, arguing with fans or being online (never a great idea). I think, given that Drew was gone, she was just an easy choice to fire to free up money, similar to Anthony Addabbo, who was fired at the same time.
