NO, I did not know this! Thank you! I'm off to watch some episodes in German!

If Marland hadn't died, then at GL once more, clearly Reva versus Nola, right? Lisa Brown his stated muse. Zimmer her own muse?

I'm going to hazard a guess that this would not have lasted very long. I don't think he would have wanted to cater to someone else's muse.

No matter what we say about KZ, she WAS popular. She had a very vocal fan base. Any writer coming in was going to have to service them.

Even though I had many issues with Marland, I would have loved it if he had come back. I'm certain he would have rebuilt the Bauers and Reardons, and done a much better job at writing for the Spauldings. But I just don't see Marland wanting to focus so much on Reva.

Wait. If I understand your routine is to have two different versions of the same video, playing in two different tabs.

I'm sorry to be the one to tell you but that is an awful waste of resources! Memory on your device, computer, phone or whatever. Plus, you are using the resources of two separate entities. But, you're only actually using one. So, if you follow, 50% is total waste. You are using the resources of two people. Doppelganger? unknown twin? Neighbor who is too cheap to get his own internet?

Haha well this is what I would do:  have Marler's YT up on one tab, give each episode I was on a like, then read the comments people left (most were Jeva fans), and then I would contribute by adding details on what was missing from the episode, if applicable, because some episodes were partial. The Vault normally has full episodes, which is great. And then when I finished an episode, I would move to the next on YT and give a like, read comments, etc. But I think my internet connection can handle both tabs at the same time :P LOL

I'm glad Marland never got another go at GL. His ATWT was highly overrated in my opinion. GL had enough problems post Maureen's death. I don't and didn't always agree with Michael Logan, but he highlighted the problem with GL in that area: JFP. You can change headwriters all the time, but it's the EP who's the problem. That's why he took the step of calling for her to be fired. The Logan columns illustrated the  problem. Every new headwriter would be announced by JFP with the same begrudging mea culpa and  with the same ridiculous storyline as the way to a new and exciting GL (snowstorm/fire).  It was rinse and repeat.

I remember when Lucy first came on in the fall of 1993 that the show seemed intent on pairing Lucy with Alan Michael.. but by the following summer of 1994.. that pairing seemed over with Lucy being tested with matt and Alan Michael first trying to pursue Eleni again.. then teased with Gilly before the short lived triangle between him/Tangie/Alan.

By 1995, once Lucy's raped... then the show began the process of slowly pairing the two together.   The only reason the coupling had any legs was because of the chemistry between the actors... once Michael Dietz takes over as Alan Michael.. the coupling loses any momentum.

Totally agree with the Dietz recast, the chemistry was gone sadly.

But A-M was showing interest in Lucy before the rape. It was actually a cute hidden attraction he had with Lucy as his office secretary/manager. You could tell A-M was getting jealous when Lucy would actually date Brent. Then once the rape happened, he had pretty much shown his love for her as he tried to protect her going forward.  I really loved their coupling with Hearst in the role.

Long time lurker but had to post a THANK YOU for providing links to ways to watch old episodes of Guiding Light provided by Blake Marler but recently started watching the German ones to fill in some missing episodes (only wish someone would translate/subtitle them on the screen).  I never really watched Guiding Light & just recently got in a rabbit hole of watching when Holly and Roger returned in 1989. Don't know why, but I was drawn to Roger Thorpe (the 89 version) right away.

IMO, I think Mindy didn't want to be the 'other woman' & didn't act adoringly. Roger dropped a major coup from Lewis Oil for her & she had already put a pause on sleeping with him at the time. IMO, his love for her & Blake was his downfall in 1991.  I think Blake brought out the worst in him. I think Simms did the role great.  She really showed how she loved her family and Roger. I liked how it was a slow progression with the whole Tower fiasco was for Roger & the Four Musketeers ending for Mindy.

My favorite relationship was Harley & little Marah. I loved them together. I also loved Maureen (most wasted character), Gilly/Hamp and some aspects of Alexandra/Roger. I also liked the pace Holly & Roger was going, but then in 1995/1996, it just seemed to crash to basically no interaction. Holly was sort of all over the place to me (but she had great chemistry with just about everyone) & I never cared for Blake. I loved how Sherry played her, but not my favorite character.

How Michael Zaslow left also left me a bit bitter, because how much it hurt him. Roger should have been killed off after Michael died & not in 2004 when the vast majority didn't know who he was. No way would Roger ignore his son being killed by Dinah (btw, I hated Dinah/Roger), Holly's daughter being kidnapped (a crime) by Fletcher or not being part of his grand children's lives. As a Roger fan, it was a slap in the face!

I tried to continue, but I was not impressed with Ben being the next Roger & just decided to read what happened next and didn't really feel the need to continue. However, it's still fun to read fans of this show after Michael died.

Thank you for being a great resource for this cancelled soap opera. If there is any way to help support financially for space needed to keep the uploads going, please let me know how and I will see if I can.

Welcome - good to hear from you! I love your support and dedication.

The German translation is at times....bad. Get used to "Sporting" for Spaulding, and "cheap" when Billy's mentioned. (I looked it up billig is German for "cheap".) But I got to admit, liebling for darling and klein Billy for Little Billy have worked their way into my brain. It'll at least give you an idea of what's going on.

I'm not sure Kim would've liked Marland either. But I think, had he had the chance, he would've written something better for Kim than Amish Reva or the Clone.

I think it's always Roger's arrogance that brings him down. in '90, he doesn't burn the deed to the Towers as soon as he got it from Ruth Price because he wanted to burn it in Billy's face. And after that blunder, he no longer wanted to be "Mr Spaulding", so he decided to embezzle from Alex before getting out. And because he was still plotting to build his "empire", he alienates both Hart and Blake. In '93, he manipulates Jenna's situation to stick it to Vanessa/Henry/A-M/Nick, and he's not satisfied with Jenna having Spaulding, he manipulates her too.

But Roger is one of soap's most complex and fascinating characters.

How do I get to see the translation on YouTube?  Great points about Roger. He wouldn't take his own good advice he would give people.

Unpopular opinion, but I actually liked Roger's storyline with Amanda. It was sort of a makeshift family that was started. I wish the whole Dinah marriage thing wasn't drug out so long and the storyline done while Michael Zaslow was in better health. It would be fun to see Roger as Alan's Brother In Law/Father In Law.  I thought he had a great chemistry with the actress that played Lucy & could have been a mentor type that got her caught up in things, but then she left too.

I also thought Roger and India had great chemistry, but she left by Christmas in 1990.  I thought she should have shown up at the funeral for Phillip and not that unbelievable way they met.

I am still learning all the history of the characters of the show and the writers.  I think it was good that they had a variety of characters to watch (or skip).

First click on the CC icon to get the closed captioning. Then left click on the "wheel" icon next to it. That will bring up the box below. Then click on "subtitles" and another box opens up, pick auto translate and then scroll down to English. Voila!image.png

Well, pretty much everyone was against the clone except for some at the network. And, I count Amish Reva among the very worst of what we IMO got stuck with. But, I agree that Zimmer would not have been keen on Marland & I think he would've returned that disfavor.

Marland was highly over-rated during his time at GL.  His first year was coasting on the strength/momentum of the Dobson's.. and most of his late 1981/1982 stories seemed too complex/cold.

His style was a better fit at ATWT... a show that also had a colder/reserved element.

Well, of course you get to use your resources however you see fit but I have yet to see why you have two open at the same time, so I continue to be curious.

I have my shares of criticisms of Broderick's writing at other shows (especially ATWT, although similar to some of her work at OLTL and AMC I think those choices were down to network pressures), but I don't think she was responsible for anything that went wrong at GL.

Hello, new poster & welcome! Glad you gave up lurking! I seem to always have as many questions about GL as I do answers or opinions & that is because I was a late bloomer to the show. I began watching AW & DAYS & ATWT as a teen & didn't discover GL until I was an adult. Roger is my favorite of all soap villains. Holly is my favorite GL female. I've always loved India & never felt I got my fill of her.

Agree. But, honestly, Marland at ATWT, he just seems to have hit his creative stride, there, then. As far as Lisa Brown being his stated muse, who doesn't love Nola? But, I also adore Iva.

Zimmer's fan base, no doubt they were vocal but they were so much more! I'm sorry but it is JUST WRONG to have people who like Stepford Wives, call & write the studio if one day goes by without you sitting pretty on the front burner!!!

Very probably correct.

Well I don't have both playing at the same time, if that helps haha. I can't explain it any further, but I guess it doesn't matter now since Marler's YT is gone. I'll just have one open tab using the Vault :P

OH! I thought they were both playing. NOW I get it! One was now & one was next. I'm going to hang onto what the "Blake Marler" uploader told me about having success before getting a channel back but it just taking a long time. If not for her uploads I'd have never found the Alex Dinner party where she says, "Would somebody please pass Beth the salt?!" & Philip calls his family cannibals!

Is your wheel icon perhaps called either the "gear" icon or the "settings" icon?
