Also following the Michelle storyline where she unalived her grapist (not sure if we can use that language on here or not). Danny’s mom is cold as ice! I’ll have to keep following to see what ends up coming of that relationship.

Michelle was attacked but not actually raped. Abigail was assaulted by Roy far more than Michelle was by Mick, but she was also not raped.

Both ladies killed their attackers though.

The Mick actor was awesome. I hated to lose him.

God, I hate Buzz but even I would not do that to him!Of course he is going to blow up the diner for Reva, cause her middle aged ass causes all the men to go nuts, and this was the same diner a year before he was saving from a fire, is his families bread and butter (dont they live there too, I never got the Coopers living arrangments )and not that anyone else on the street might be injured or he would go to jail. I can't believe no one just rewrote those scenes, McTavish be damned.

Haha exactly!  It was so out of left field and made no sense considering the entire year has been about building up 5th Street. It was so dumb. I'm surprised an EP didn't step in to fix it, but maybe this was McTavish's way of going out since those were her last credited episodes. She was going out with a middle finger up.

And good question on the Cooper's living arrangements haha. In Nov 1996, we finally get a new set, which is Buzz's bedroom. But where do Frank, Eleni and the kids live? They've been sorely underused since honestly nuEleni started in March 1995. She pops in once in a blue moon to serve coffee, and Frank is just your general cop of the day now, when there is a need. I want to see more of them soon.

For years there was speculation or rumors that he was going to be revealed to be alive or that someone else killed him.  A way to get Michelle and Drew off the hook.

January 1999:

just started this show from completely bare bones so if I get stuff confused or mixed up be patient while I learn all the characters.

Josh and Reva I am assuming are the super couple of the show in this time period. They remind me of John and Marlena from Days. There’s a lot of drama surrounding this Annie person so appears to be Teri with plastic surgery. Her relationship with Alan is interesting to say the least !

Harley is my favourite character so far I think. The relationship she has with Daisy is really touching and sweet. I remember being that age and wanting my parents to be back together. The cough syrup drama was interesting and I’m really kind of annoyed with Phillip. I’m hoping she dumps him and gets with the hot dad of Daisy (forget his name)

Also following the Michelle storyline where she unalived her grapist (not sure if we can use that language on here or not). Danny’s mom is cold as ice! I’ll have to keep following to see what ends up coming of that relationship.

I am really intrigued by Dinah. She certainly strikes me as the Sheila Carter or Kristen DiMera type character of the show. I’m sure there will be some interesting stuff to come with her. The drama seems to revolve around this Cassie person (who I have not yet seen on screen but I’m sure I will soon)

Great to see your thoughts. We can use that language here - profanity is starred out but those words aren't.

Daisy's father is named Jim. He was hot, yes.

Dinah at this point was at her most interesting to me, at least in Wendy Moniz's run. She started out as more of a spoiled brat, then they made her a heroine, and finally by this time she had gone crazy, with one tragedy after another making her more unhinged. Moniz played the darker elements well and was the only one keeping the Cassie and Hart pairing moving. (is Hart still there?)

So I'm watching the episode with the car crash that kills Chelsea's fiancee--and who should turn up as a nurse at Cedars but Fiona Hutchinson! I had no idea she was on the show before playing Jenna.

I didn't realize she was on at this time. She was also on briefly in 1984 as a student who threw herself at professor Quint.

I remember Mick also was involved in the Blake video tape story.. trying to blackmail her and that her uncle Ken beat Mick up while Meta figured out what was going on and was trying to get Blake to tell Ross about her sleeping with Ben.

The main rumor I had heard was that Carmen's henchman Dietz was going to be the one that actually killed Mick after he witnessed Drew and Michelle both knocking him out.. and finished the job.  Another rumor would have been that Holly would have been involved with investigating what happened to Mick and would be tied to this henchman Dietz.

Sadly.. the rumors sounded better than what actually showed up on screen.

Youtube autoplay sent me to an episode later in 1986 where Josh is back and Reva and Josh are making out. This is mere weeks after Reva is declaring Kyle is the love of her life. I now see why my mother stopped watching (mother was not a fan of Josh per our discussion). This is the kind of whiplash storytelling that drives viewers like my mother away.  It reminds me of AW where we spent over a whole year investing in Cass and Nicole and then Swajeski came in and dismantled it for ridiculousness.

At various points in 1986, they have Kim Zimmer and Krista Tesreau looking identical to each other. Their hairstyle and clothing were the same. I thought perhaps the writers had attempted to tell a "Reva is Mindy's mother story" but it was just laziness on the hair/customer's part. One such example is at 3 minutes and 50 seconds into this video. Another commenter had the same idea.

You could tell Long was writing the show because she wouldn't have just reunited Josh/Reva instantly... there would have been a slow and gradual process to reunite them.

When she returns in mid 1987.. she really gets to work keeping Josh/Reva apart with Josh dealing with Sonni/Will.. while Reva and Alan continue their relationship.   Their mid 1989 was long awaited and worth the wait.

So many of the failings mentioned here remind me of soaps now. GL was a trendsetter, I suppose.

There's an opening shot from 1985 or 1986 of a woman throwing furniture around at the country club and I used to think it was Reva before realizing it was Mindy.

Exactly. It makes no sense to reunite them because Reva was declaring her undying love for Kyle. It makes Reva look like an idiot. I really have no interest in watching these 1986 episodes now because it just feels so lazy. Kim Zimmer said she got so much hate mail at this time for how Reva abandoned Kyle and went back to Josh. It makes sense why viewers would be livid. My mother stopped watching around this time.

I know the shot you're referring to. And a good EP would have made sure that never happened. The producers just didn't care. I'm surprised Zimmer didn't say anything or maybe she had given up by that point and was just going through the motions with the hair and makeup. I feel for her as she and Tesreau deserve better.

It's very funny watching this Mindy montage as you'd think she was on the Bad Girls Club. That seemed to be a side of her they phased out by the late '80s (although Krista's Mindy in her '00s returns gave the vibe she could have kicked ass if she needed to).

Oh, no--it's mere MINUTES after dumping Kyle at the wedding. She's still in her wedding get-up when she's calling out for Joshua!

It had to be close because of the upcoming who's the daddy story, but the fact that she goes from being madly in love with Kyle to  being madly in love with Josh in a New York minute is wild.

If it had been revenge sex, or Reva had mixed up the dates of her cycle, that would have made more sense. But it's like they were saying to the audience, "Hey, we were just kidding with this Kyle/Reva thing, that was a placeholder until we could get Robert Newman back!"

January 1999 continued

I’ve been introduced to the Beth/Matt/Vanessa triangle. I love that I’ve already watched a handful of episodes and I’m still being introduced to new storylines/characters. Matt is a handsome guy don’t get me wrong but I just wouldn’t expect these women to fight over a man like him. Is he rich? I guess I’ll find out more as I watch. I just about peed my pants when Beth tripped and fell on her way out the door after aggressively kissing Matt, lmfao! I forget how feral soaps used to write female characters. It’s entertaining none the less. 😛

Even though I watched many of these episodes going all the way back to the late 1970s, it's weird now to see how many characters are in scenes compared to soaps today. They have literal crowds of non-speaking extras in scenes sometimes. There are way more minor speaking parts. I feel like saying, "Are you sure you can afford all those people?" 😁

Restaurants with more than two customers in them, hospital emergencies with actual victims, and my favorite, parties with obviously professional dancers who twirl through scenes. During Billy/Vanessa's wedding/Alex's debut, there's a couple that randomly dance from the ballroom through the bar area. It's just so damn gorgeous!

That fight between Mindy and Roxie is hilarious. Krista is throwing herself all over the damn place.
