Or a very lame Hallmark movie. lol

While I can't stomach those scenes with Matt---I found myself smiling at some of the original Vanessa peeking out with Michael. Spoiled, sulky and demanding her own way. MK deserved so much better.

Man, Kimmer was looking..HARD then! And Rauch had Van contemplating plastic surgery while Reva looked she just spent a week on a Tulsa dive bar walk..which is how Reva should look but still, she was the center of the show and the goddess of love??/

People can criticize whomever they want, its all subjective.  And we know how JFP won those Emmys..she was smart and knew how to play the game.  Kudos for her but that doesn't mean the material deserved it.

AMC won Best Daytime Drama Series twice, and neither time did I think it actually was worthy, so I definitely don't put much stock into those awards (even though I'd love to have one someday, lol).

ETA: Totally forgot about the third win (in '98).  The show wasn't [!@#$%^&*] then either.

To me, it's even more telling that after so many awards...  all people remember her as... is this incredibly unlikeable entity that destroyed every show she touched except Santa Barbara. Why would people make-up stories or lie? What would they have to gain? At this point... of the game especially. This is the popular negative opinion I've heard hundreds of times by different people, some of who don't even like each-other, so there must be some truth there.

Maybe they are all wrong. Maybe she was this hard-working woman who did nothing other than work her ass off and try to improve Daytime... and got a 100 Emmys for it. Maybe she's the most misunderstood creature on the planet.

I saw her Locker interview and she seemed... benign and nice. But they all do, don't they. Not the most interesting interview, not the most intellectually stimulating conversation...  From what I've seen of Restless when she was in charge... it's not my cup of tea. That's all I can say.

I agree.

I think the best producer ever to work in daytime was Robert Calhoun.  Yet, despite his incredible ability to turn around not one but two flagging soaps, he won only once, for ATWT.  Does that mean he shouldn't be held in the same regard as JFP?

Ya know I pointed out that she's been hired so many times but that she's also been fired so many times. Two sides of that coin. The same kind of thing is true as to people's reactions to her & assessments of her. There are certainly people who are very critical of her & dislike her immensely, but, the other side of that coin also exists since there are people who praise her to the moon & back & just totally adore her. She provokes strong opinions & reactions but it's neither all negative nor all positive.

Of course... there is no possibility of all negative or all positive opinions, especially if you are living in a democracy. Even if there is 1 positive one, it still exists. But that doesn't mean that when you look at a person you can't find similar patterns in the way people are describing their experience with them. I mean... there are still millions of people who think Trump is the second coming of Christ and a Hero that will save the world. Will that turn him into a positive character in my eyes... No way. Even if MILLIONS of them screamed under my balcony. I am not saying that this person (JFP) is in away way or form on the level of vileness that man is, I'm only making my own parallels for perceiving positive/negative and the importance of personal subjectivity. I TRUST the people who have told me their opinion of JFP, but it's their opinion. Not mine. The only thing I have ever commented about her was that the quote @Mitch64posted... sounded ominous. And I also think having received many awards don't make one immune to negative opinions. These awards are being given by a selected group of people. They are incredibly subjective. All awards are SUBJECTIVE. So shoving them down our throat as some kind of FACT is... someone else already found the right description in the post before mine.

    • Thank you. I know we're all supposed to see that BTG is progressive when it comes to queer characters, but it's telling that they won't commit to showcasing gay or bi males who are single and looking. That relationship couldn't be any more traditional. Will we ever get a bedroom scene with Smitty and Martin? I have my doubts.
    • This is a pretty huge thing IMO, but I guess we will see what happens? Can't get any worse then already.
    • This can be difficult for a soap to depict. So far she's only shown an interest in women. Will a man come into her life? If she commits to a male, there will be  backlash, but if it's women only, them where is the bi/queer aspect? Personally, I would have liked a single gay male on the show dealing with hook ups/relationships etc. Smitty/Martin married with kids is limiting in those terms.
    • Of course, how could I have forgotten those thrilling episodes depicting the fire? Also we had the GCAC rooftop set that came out every Summer. Moving on to Friday's episode. Victor is propped in his chair, answers his cell and tells the caller 'Let him in'. Seconds later Kyle enters. So does Victor have security on the front porch? It would have been better had Victor taken the call, and then said to himself 'Well Kyle, let's see what you have to say'and fade out. Next scene Kyle enters, indicating that the first call was from the Ranch entrance and time had passed . Nit picky but I get frustrated when they do stuff like that.
    • Jordan was gone from '87 to mid-'89. He left just weeks after Robert's late '86 return.

    • I don't think Chelsea has a true label just yet. She's just finding out she has an interest in women. I think the awkwardness is aligned with the character as we've seen. This is the fool who keeps filming her family when embarrassing things happen and live streaming it. I actually think it's refreshing she isn't just jumping into a relationship  and that they're playing the beats of her trying to figure out who she is.
    • Wow, do I agree with you. Chelsea is coming off as ridiculous. All she does is look for a woman to date while not caring about her business at all. That she's bi is great, but they're not writing her like she's bi. She seems to be lesbian. Yeah, I know -- "no labels." I just don't find the writing for her story to be anything other than awkward.   -- I hope we get some diagnosis finality with Bill's trip to the hospital. I don't want to see these trips to the ER every other day. -- Naomi is going to blame herself for Bill's health problems? GMAB. -- Ashley doesn't read as a real nurse in the slightest. -- Another day, another rinse and repeat conversation with Derek and Ashley. YAWN. -- Kat is making mistakes, but she's fun to watch and listen to, regardless. -- I still think the Joey/Vanessa/Doug gambling story sucks. I know Doug is deeply in debt, but I don't like him acting this meek and submissive.  -- I'm not sure what Joey's plan was from the beginning, or why he had to seduce Vanessa at all to get his way. I'm not sure what Vanessa ever saw in Joey -- why doesn't he give her the ick? -- I'm fine with a story where Doug and Vanessa take out Joey.  -- The fades to commercials were pretty bad today.
    •   Victoria's house (that she long ago lived in with Billy) burned down (I think Aunt Jordan set it ablaze?). Victoria briefly moved into the ranch after the fire, with Claire, Johnny and Katie, I think? Mariah and Tessa and baby Aria had been living in the tack house but they bought a house we've never seen and moved there. Victoria, Claire, and Cole then moved into the tack house as soon as Teriah left. I guess Victoria's children Johnny and Katie would live with Victoria at the tack house eventually? But Johnny and Katie went to boarding school during the school year. Not sure if we'll see Johnny and Katie for the summer vacation or where they would live.
