Y&R: Episodes discussion, week of September 21

I think they want people to be upset in the moment but not let it linger on. Like Brad's death. We were supposed to feel sad, he saved Noah, this made Sharon go over the edge, and so on, but they made sure there was no long process of grief. Abby was back to grinning soon enough, Colleen was presented as a twit with a chip on her shoulder, and Ashley was unfazed.

They want that moment, the moment of sorrow and reaction to a character being killed off, but they want to make sure viewers don't let the grief hang over them and give them a negative opinion of the show. I think having the Scoobies on was a way to say, "OK, it's sad, time to start moving on."

I guess I prefer that to Kevin and Jana talking about Colleen as their friend. It feels more in character for what they would be.

I completely ignored yesterday's episode. Got home, turned it on in the background and did other things and before I knew it, the show was over. And during that entire span of time, nothing that I heard on Y&R made me sit down to watch. Nothing.

I want Amber gone.

Gloria should take Eden, Kevin and Jana back to the Ashram and reunite with River. Jeffery gets nabbed by the law for some long-ago, off-screen crime and sent to prison for a long time. I then want to see a story with Lauren as the focus and Michael supporting her. Give her something to do involving her son she had with Scott - is he still alive? I miss seeing her on a regular basis.

Does Lauren even know that Colleen is dead? Has she said anything about Traci?

OK. I thought so too but they haven't mentioned him in forever (of course we haven't seen much of Lauren for her to even mention him).

Seeing Lauren and Traci at the funeral talking was such a good scene. I was hoping that they might have Lauren visit the hospital. I realize they're not bestest buddies suddenly, but it would still be good to see that....

Nikki's return appearance was horrible. She disappears for weeks, her family is worried about her and it looks as if she's at some spa retreat? WTF? Why hasnt she talked to Victoria and Nick? Why did she leave everyone hanging wondering what the heck happeend to her.

I have no idea what they're trying to make of Chance/Chloe. MANY people seem to think that they're some hot couple on the horizon. I do not! At the Chancellor barbecue they acted like two buddies rather than potential lovers. I get it that they may not be ready to hit the sheets but Chance continues to baffle me because he doesn't seem to initiate any kind of real affection towards Chloe. Does he want her or not? A nice gentlemanly kiss on Chloe's lips would've looked good but he wouldn't even do that. By the way, I've heard that Chloe actually falls for him. Whether or not HE falls for HER is what I will be questioning.

Truly, it's like they make it an intent to destroy the core characters or kill them off, yet people like Amber and Cane are constantly redeemed or made to look like good people.

They're purposely making Jill into some spoiled brat to Saint Katherine, and we know Katherine is no saint. I don't get this contempt for the Jill character. Jess and Jill deserve so much better than writing like this.

This is a way to phase Jill out of the show. I can imagine the horror which the likes of Rauch or Sheffer experienced when they saw that the show had several women who were over 50. So we get, "Yay, Katherine rocks!" as Jill and Nikki are made more and more pathetic and making sure viewers will not care when they are phased out for good. Eileen Davidson is fortunate enough to still be able to be passed off as a young heroine, so they give her stories that are Sabrina leftovers.

Exactly!

The Cane propping is the worst.

The way Katherine, Jill, Devon, Neil, Nina & Billy were destroyed to "redeem" him was horrible.

And it's not like TPTB are eager to use Katherine that she needs to be made into a saint.

Since her marriage to Murphy the only time she or Murphy get airtime is to prop Amber.

Yet Gloria & her corneas are STILL alive.

I think they just see Gloria as a meaningless plot device. You can't degrade Nikki and Jill that way, they have too much history. I think a number of those at Y&R now also resent the show's history, and since Gloria is really not a part of that history, they are more comfortable using her.

    • When the announcement was first made, I did wonder if other plans were in the works. I guess we can always keep hoping, especially as the show has a small core cast.
    • @chrismlAbout Lisa, agree to disagree. Actually at the time she was the only thing my partner & I disagreed about. Naturally she was Team Vicky while I was steadfast as Team Lisa.  About John & twin paternity, I think that like the 3 pillows was a transitory idea someone had that no one else agreed with. More of the attempt to accommodate Philece. About MJ, co-sign, 100% agree, if there were more degrees I would claim them. About Wally & Felicia, always a fan. Mitch? Eh, take or leave. Although I do agree that WGE is a really striking man. Who have I left out? I don't know so that's all I got.

    • Dallas peaked early, IMO. Maybe not a fair statement as I’m still making my way through the first half of its run, but I think it’s hard to argue to point that S3 into S4 was its high point. Back to Knots. Wrapping up “And Never Brought to Mind.” Greg’s introduction kinda took me by surprise. I low-key dreaded his arrival bc I know he very quickly gets to the center of the show, but even though they wasted no time connecting him with Mac, Abby, Gary, and Karen, it still feels like a gradual intro. The juxtaposition of the ending of the Chip story with the heating up Abby’s plotting is quite symbolic of the changes the show was going through. I absolutely cannot imagine Kenny and Ginger having any part in any of this. Yall, the Gary/Val piano theme that they pull out from time to time is my FAVORITE. I find myself humming it constantly.
    • Bloodshed is inevitable now. It’s another reason I’m glad Black people aren’t getting involved in these protests. As awful as this is, I keep reminding myself that 54 percent of Latino men voted for Trump. These people were put in harm’s way by members of their own communities and sometimes even members of their own families. Too many people decided to touch the stove.
    • Maybe I'm still in denial, but nothing about Neighbours' ongoing social media output gives the vibe of a show that's ending. In today's 'Roundup' video, Alan Fletcher referenced that production finishes in five weeks, but in all the show's posts the cast are as jovial and lighthearted as ever. Remarkably so for people who are about to lose their jobs.    Perhaps they're just putting a brave face on things, and I know they approached the previous axing with a positive attitude. Maybe putting an upbeat face on things is a collective way of showing potential backers that there's still life in the show? Or is it possible that they already know the show has been saved, and we'll get an announcement next month when filming wraps and the show 'rests'?   Does any of that make sense?!
    • A very good week for male eye candy on GH. New Michael is beautiful, Curtis's arms looked great in that polo shirt, Cody looks even more handsome with his new haircut AND we got Marco in swim shorts rocking his lovely bod and chest fur.

    • Yeah when Jamey Giddens did breakdowns for DAYS, he would sometimes state in tweets that specific things were his idea that he had pitched to Ron.
    • I don't, since they've clearly incorporated them into Tomas' storyline, and I happen to like his tattoos, but his jackets not fitting doesn't mean they're trying to cover his tattoos. The clothing overall isn't the issue; it's the fit. And I expect(ed) more from Jeresa Featherstone and her team. Very disappointed. He's the only male, overall, whose costume irritates me.
    • "And OMG, watching the scenes of Roger's return in comparison...the quality in the writing really nosedived. The stupid mask." Very much agreed.  Having Roger hide behind a mask for weeks/months, with it culminating with him swinging in on a vine at Blake/Phillip's wedding....geez.  So juvenile. IMO, Guiding Light never did a good job reintroducing major characters, either from the dead or elsewhere.  Masked balls = awful.  Amish = awful. When Reva was brought back from the dead, she should've just showed up in Springfield as Reva, and informed everyone that she had been gone for years because she felt like it.  She had a four-year fling with some dude who ended up dumping her due to disloyalty. Josh would be pissed and declare that their love is not *always* but *sometimes* and he'd act accordingly.  Her kids would hate her.
