AMC: Farewell To Palmer?

Say, “Goodnight, Palmer.” Veteran AMC actor, James Mitchell has quietly relocated to California and is not expected to appear on the show again.

This saddens me greatly. Palmer was the man back in the glory days of AMC, scheming away against Cliff, Donna, Natalie, Lars and Adam. Haughty with Phoebe and Langley, completely in love with Daisy, bickering with Myra...He was such an integral part of the show, the main villain for so many years as the meanest man in town. James Mitchell was obviously declining these last few years and he is 89, but still this seems like such a sad loss for Pine Valley. I wish they could have gotten Gillian Spencer/Daisy back to usher Palmer off the show.

It is very sad. I love the scenes Palmer had with Pete and Opal last year but I understand James Mitchell wants to retire. So sad to think than in 4 years, AMC has lost most of its veterans: Phoebe, Brooke, Myrtle and now Palmer...

I would like to at least see a short storyline where Palmer dies(maybe have James film a video will as Palmer from LA). At least that way they could pay some respect to the character.

I wouldn't want them to kill Palmer. A brief storyline where he decides to go live with Nina would be enough for me. But it sounds like JM wanted it this way: quiet, no fuss and he's earned whatever kind of exit he wants. Good luck to him.

In Daytime, I think it's the reverse of what Neil said "Better to burn out than to fade away" LOL at least he can make guest appearances this way!

I have missed Palmer all these years that he has hardly appeared. He was the perfect nemesis for Adam. I am glad that James Mitchell was able to leave on his own terms. They should not kill him off. Let Palmer live a happy life off screen.

Good for James Mitchell, but what a shame to the character and history of AMC. It would have been nice to at least let Palmer die quietly in his sleep and drive some story surrounding the vets and include a ton of flashbacks from AMC's glory days, but Pratt and JHC would just f uck that up.

Although if AMC moves to LA, they could always have Palmer return!

him and the six that are desperate enough to go with it, and the rest will just pick up Law and Order guest stints until they get put out to pasture.

Isn't James Mitchell almost 90 years old?

Shame OLTL doesn't have as many older actors as AMC does...

The oldest contract castmember on OLTL right now is actually Robin Strasser at age 64 (Erika Slezak turns 63 this week), following the death of Phil Carey earlier this year at age 82. Patricia Elliott is the oldest recurring castmember at 67.

He's 89. He'll be 90 in February 2010.

Well didn't Paul Rauch get rid of most of their veteran cast members in the 80s? Carla Gray, her mother Sade, and put Larry Woleck on recurring and then totally phased out.

I think they should hold off on doing that while he's alive. Palmer should die with James. A la Myrtle.

I guess James was one step ahead of AMC, LOL.

That sly old fox. If he was more like Palmer he'd already be buying up properties to rent back to ABC under a shell corporation.

Instead of killing Palmer off, I wish they could have James make, if he's available, a few final appearances to say Palmer is moving away to be with Nina, or is going to Europe on business. They could have a goodbye episode for him, and one that would not have to be focused on death.
