OLTL: Actress FIRED!

This Just In: Patrica Mauceri has been reportedly fired from the recurring role of Carlotta Vega on One Life to Live allegedly due to the star's protests about Carlotta's small role in the upcoming gay storyline between Kyle (Brett Claywell) and Fish (Scott Evans), according to a setside source.

" Carlotta was supposed to have a small role in the upcoming "Kish" storyline. She objected to Carlotta's positive attitude about homosexuality, saying it conflicted with her personal beliefs."

The source goes on to say the role of Carlotta was recast with Saundra Santiago (Guiding Light, The Sopranos, and Miami Vice). Her first tape day was Friday 6/26. Santiago previously played the role of Isobella Santi on OLTL.

UPDATE: Reportedly the soap opera wanted to go against stereotype and show Carlotta as a gay friendly Latina mother. The actress allegedly vehemently protested that story decision, resulting in show brass replacing her.

:lol::lol::lol:

And the crazy just keeps on coming. Now it's just entertaining watching daytime completely blow the whole "gay" thing to hell. All I can do is just laugh...

If true, I have zero sympathy for her.

Regardless of her narrow-minded beliefs, she should just shut up and act.

I used to really like her, but after reading this, I hope to never see her again, anywhere.

I doubt she gets much work outside of her recurring status on OLTL, in this economy it's pretty dumb for her to react like this. All she had to do was say a few lines, rather that actually lined up with her beliefs was irrelevant, it's work.

I loved her like a surrogate mom. But if it's true, good riddance.

This is weird. PM works with gay people, so why would Carlotta being pro-gay be an issue? Maybe there is more to the story.

Of all the stupid........

GMAFB, the "shut up and act" stuff is rude for one thing, if anything actors need to speak out more. I hate that attitude that they should shut up and do their jobs, it's something I could see coming from Frons or even Pratt and Guza.

I see NOTHING wrong with her speaking out, no one knows the characters better than the actors who play them.

How does Carlotta even fit into the Kyle/Fish drama anyway? Put Roxy in there instead.

And *whew* I almost thought it said they recast her with Socorro Santiago from AMC.

Yeah I was wondering myself what Carlotta would have to do with that storyline, doesn't seem like something she'd be part of, even as a supporting player

Speaking out for character integrity is one thing. Letting bigotry dictate your career is another. If she couldn't stand to play Carlotta as gay-friendly, that's her own fault. According to the source, that "went against her beliefs." Good luck finding more work in New York.

It saddens me, really. I've loved her and I wouldn't have believed this of her before. But the story presented is pretty cut and dried.

Number one, actors are hired to act, period. They can bitch about character all they want, but they are hired to play a role, and read the lines, period. Not to write their own parts.

Second, if this is true, she's a bigoted homophobe, and I say good riddance to her.

Cristian gets involved by pretending he's gay.

Not sure how or why, but that's the rumor I heard.

I'm a black woman and just because our President is black doesn't stop how others may feel about blacks. I happen to respect people who stay true to their beliefs. If they don't like, or are against a particular culture for personal, or religious reasons more power to them. I don't have to agree, and I would never try to change their minds. If the actress felt it was against her beliefs, then she was right to voice it. I'm sure she knew that she would be axed, so again I give her props. What I think is so sad is one soap has a gay couple, then the other soaps are rushing to follow suit. What about when AMC brought back Angie and Jesse, why didn't TIIC on other soaps say "Hey, let's get a Latino family, Black family, or Asian family, etc., too!" It's like the Gay community is their new pet project. GMAFB!

More power to her for being a bigot? Seriously? What? Why?

It's one thing to respect a person's freedom of speech, of course, but to celebrate bigotry? Come on.
