The 2006 Vendatta plot

"Passions Vendetta started with Whitney Russell planning on becoming a nun she was in the Convent where she is hurting her self Her half brother Chad is trying to get her to stop because he is still in love with her but Whitney will not live in a life of sin so she gets Chad to leave and she goes into the Chapel and prays when she sees a bright light and it talks to her. The voice says it’s god and it has a mission for her. The story progressed and it turned out that it was a Monk who talked to god and is sent to keep her on her mission. Her Mission is to go to Rome and in the Vatican to get a Chalice. So she and the Monk head of to Rome."

Sorry, the grammar in my post might have confused that it was a story about the Pope and Whitney in a relationship.  In fact, it was a story about the Pope which involved Whitney

 man time flies.

I must admit, I was addicted as a teen when I discovered it in 2000, a year after it premiered. It was the Prom Boat Disaster where they spoofed Carrie and I was intrigued by Tabitha and Timmy and Charity possessed by the evil pendant. Not to mention a shirtless Jesse Metcalfe and Galen Gering made me realize some things about myself during that time haha. I think a lot of the cult following was from younger folks which is why there is suddenly a resurgence online of people in nostalgia over the soap, we're now the age the show needed during that time which is trippy to think about.

Sure, looking back on it, it was a bit silly, but it's the thing that got me into soaps and will always hold a special spot for me. Reading old ratings reports, its not surprising Passions excelled in the 12-17 demo. The show gets a lot of hate (some of it warranted,) but I wanted to show love for it.

Here's a clip from Access Hollywood in 1999 previewing the soap. I've since caught up on the first year I missed via Youtube.

That's very sad. I know how JER valued his priest characters so he must have respected French for him to last the run of the show.

I'm sorry to his loved ones but I am glad his struggle is over.

Watching some of the clips of the show (there's an account putting up random day-to-day clips, which I appreciate, even if they seem to have been filmed through a potato), and I can finally see after all this time what good casting Travis Schuldt was as Ethan. He wasn't the best actor, but was believable as a clueless upper crust brat, yet with the inherent "goodness" of being Sam's son.

Once Eric Marstolf is in the part, Ethan seems to just become more generic, although that has served Eric well on DAYS.

@Franko recently reposted a list of impressive actors being considered for casting when Passions was being developed that had been previously posted by @DRW50

It occurred to me that one of the many lessons learned from the dreck that is Passions, casting, doesn't always help.  They had prime actors who had either done great work, or went on to great work.  But, once you've got a chimp nursing an old lady for laughs, Larry Olivier couldn't pull off that nonsense.

It is easy to caught up in excitement over an old favorite coming to a new soap.  But, Passions always told us ,”be careful what you wish for” (and they used the dangling participial).

    • I totally understand your sloths concern about it and I agree with you. Let’s hope the show plays it’s cards right.    Further comments about the last few episodes: - I liked that one of the attendees was filming the scene. That’s realistic. I wonder if the writers will follow up with that.  - Martin and Smitty trying to drag Leslie out was very heteronormative, so perfectly in line with them two as characters lol.    As for the future: it’s obvious the Duprees will come to accept Eva one way or another, but the rivalry with Kay should be here for the long term   On the topic of acting: the only bad actors I’m seeing are Ted and Derek. Tomas hasn’t proven to be either good or bad, so far, but he’s certainly mediocre and uncharismatic. He sucks the energy out of the scenes and I don’t see any couple of women ever vying for him.
    • I’m trying to think which actors VW were working with at the time, and none of them had been there for a while. Even like Mac and Ada didn’t have that big of a part in Rachel’s storyline.  And Jamie was involved with all that movie stuff.
    • Brooke did ads before ATWT too. That probably helped get her the job. After ATWT she seemed to branch more into hosting, along with ads.  I think I saw Kelley in an ad or two, but you're right she wasn't on as much.
    •   Thanks for sharing these. I wonder if Charles might have been in the running for Adam. I know Preacher was a bit of a bad boy at times on EON, but Neal seemed to be a step down, and Robert Lupone had played a similar part on AMC. Given the huge cast turnover at this point I wonder who thought they had been there long enough to go.  Laura Malone/Chris Rich would get a remote within the next year.
    • Interesting.  It seems to allude to that statement that Warren Burton made around that time about some AW actors getting special treatment.  I wonder who was resentful about not getting to go.
    • Good morning, boys!  I figured that it was time that our Gio was introduced into the hotness thread

@ranger1rg I even included a close up of his face for ya!
    • Under all of Madonna's social media today there is this wave of negative, toxic, absurd comments by Lady Gaga fans telling her how Gaga surpassed her in concert in Copacabana. I mean... Who the hell cares? Why are these fan communities so freaking toxic??? I'm sure Madonna doesn't care... But still. Have some respect for M. Leave her social media alone. Go cheer Gaga and be happy. Why come and spew hate on M??? Crazy world.
    • FYI, again, Ruth/Letitia is not in either of these 2 episodes. So that concludes the 4 episodes I had from Nov. 1983. I don't have the October episodes.
    • Eddie has begun uploading the 1990 episodes. I'm so happy about that. I was mindfully taking a break till there's plenty of episodes I can binge watch when I feel like it. Now that 1989 is complete... I can't wait to press play on February 1989 and resume where I left off.
