The fact that she wasn't nominated for the scenes of Iris confessing everything to Mac was ridiculous.

Or even Rachel confronting her about it in the scenes prior; those were amazing.

It makes you wonder how fierce the competition was that year... or if the voters just made another mistake 😂

For the Chief reveal? Yeah, could it have been more obvious?! I mean, there's worthy, and then there's really Emmy worthy!!! I have no problem saying that Duncan was robbed. And, then, to add insult to injury, they just let her rot in jail. GOOD GRIEF! We needed her for the last years. And, then, Goutman tried to get Bev, which okay I can see that. But, when her doctor said she couldn't fly that quickly after the transplant, WHY DID HE NOT get Carmen?!!! I'm gonna say it, STUPID. If I imagine the look on Rachel's face if Iris knocked on her door ... YES!!

You are of course entitled to your opinion. If you knew me, well, that doesn't really help anything. It is unlikely that I will disabuse you of this notion. My best advise to you, since you feel this way, would be to put me on Ignore. I have a dozen people on Ignore & it works like a charm. Have a nice day.

These should not have been merged.

I am curious. I don't know if any of you watch GH. A few years back now, Disney issued an edict, no more rapists, redeemed or not, as romantic leads. Full Stop. Period. And, further, Deal with it NOW.

Franko had been redeemed by the medical trick of a brain tumor. Too bad. He could not continue as husband, surrogate father to 3 boys, done, finito.

Now, in future of course this situation will not arise. Which to my way of thinking is more or less optimal.

So, I bring it up to solicit your opinion.

Do better.

“Why am I reading FRANKO when I should be reading FRANCO?”

You can’t even follow your own rude “rules.”

I’m not going to ignore you because it will be more fun to see you get banned.  Again.

Ignore ME.

You have your own ridiculous Facebook group, Soaps: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.  I guess we know who the ugly is.

Do better.

Thanks for the heads up. It's a typo. They're basically Biblical. Typos will always be with us. I imagine this one is because we have a Franco with a K here in the SON Community.

Carmen Duncan should have won the Emmy for the chief storyline. It's maddening and unfair that she was not even nominated.  I can't speak to McKinsey as Iris as I know that always comes up when Carmen Duncan is mentioned. Emmy voters (just like current prime emmy voters) were lazy and didn't watch other shows. They just voted for friends or the "it" shows at the time. Reminds me of when they had to institute the Ellen Burstyn rule at the Emmys because the voters nominated her for Mrs. Harris. Ridiculous.

It hurts knowing that Duncan was KILLING this role and never got the credit she deserved. Nor the opportunity to continue on the show until the end. Nor another contract role on another NYC soap. (Wouldn’t she have been fabulous as Alexandra Spaulding, replacing Beverlee TWICE?  Because she could’ve done that. She was that good.)

I wonder how Vicky Wyndham felt about Carmen’s departure, because Rachel vs Iris was still driving that show. (For that matter, I wonder how she felt about the departure of Beverlee?  Or Jacquie?  Any quotes out there?)  Maybe VW couldn’t get too worked up about it because she herself was hanging on for dear life.  But AW started to lose me when CD left.

In keeping with the rape discussion, an October 1, 1990 episode was just uploaded where a stranger just tried to rape Olivia and nuSam has to save her from the attacker. Based on the date, it's just a week or so before  I believe Marley is raped. This is also going on while Sharlene is reliving her past abuse at the hands of her brother. Three different storylines and three instances where Swajeski uses sexual abuse of women as a plot point. I would have missed this scene as I tend to FF any scene with Sam as the storyline just isn't working in the slightest.

53 Years Ago Today…

Thanks for this. I gather that is interim husband Ted Clark who I don't think was mentioned in later years even though his sister also married Russ.

Based on what I see on the AWHP, it would have been Robin Strasser's Rachel that married Ted and Victoria Wyndham's who divorced him.

What were Alice and Steve doing while Rachel was with Ted?

Am I mistaken or does this go hand in hand with what I quoted from HER STORIES? I recall as an NBC fan that we, not being stupid, felt that something was awry on our soaps. At DAYS we could list everyone who had been raped & it was almost everyone. Those who had not, it had at a minimum been "attempted." Later, at AW, we noticed the same thing start happening.

What I am suggesting is that these two posts confirm each other & they're both about violence against women & NBC soaps.

Edit to add: Maybe someone thought that I was giving Swajeski a pass. No, what I am doing is blaming both!

What were Alice and Steve doing while Rachel was with Ted?

Gerald Davis was in town for a couple of years, and he encouraged Rachel to focus less on her marriage to Ted, and to pursue Steve secretly.  For example, Rachel started insisting she be present whenever Steve had a visit with Jamie.  And then manipulated Steve into keeping that fact from Alice, which meant Rachel and Steve (along with young Jamie) were meeting regularly without Alice's knowledge.  One day when they were meeting in the park, Jamie was bitten by a snake (a real snake on the set, slithering toward a young child). When Steve and Rachel took Jamie to the hospital emergency room, Alice realized what Rachel had been up to.  And Steve had to admit she was correct.  So during Strasser's final few months and Wyndham's first few months, Rachel was constantly pestering Steve and Alice with small manipulations like this -- one after another, while being encouraged by Gerald.  Ted was jealous of Steve, but didn't know Gerald was actively working to destroy his marriage to Rachel.  The show was still in the 30-minute format during this period and extremely well written.

Thanks for the detailed background. The little summary I read on the AWHP gave me the impression that Rachel was head over heels in love with Ted and then suddenly started sneaking around with Steve which drove good-for-nothing Ted away.

Were the child actor and the snake in the same shot? I feel like I have seen so many examples of carefully cut scenes where you don't see the actor at the same time as the threat that that's what I would have imagined.
