Not when you put it that way! Not sure about Nick and Sharon leaving, but the rest sounds divine. Naturally, this is something that should be played over months and months, get to know Brooks, then Lance's return.

Jack/Diane are divine  I wouldn't mind seeing Michael being their go-to guy, it doesn't negate Jack and Diane's relationship....

Lauren/Michael/Phyllis would be hot, but I'm worried that destroying their friendship might not be worth it in the longterm... Then again, it would definitely bring the claws out in Lauren!

Yes to Jack and Diane but ugh to Lauren/Michael/Phyllis. Why would Michael get anywhere near that sexually? He loves her as a friend, but is fully aware of how screwed up and stalkerish she can be. Being kidnapped and beaten up because she was jealous of Diane has made Phyllis off limits sexually for Michael for over a decade.

Now I can be up for a rivalry where Lauren and Phyllis but heads over something, maybe they go into business together, and Michael is put in the middle but not another love triangle especially with Phyllis.

If Nick and Sharon are the endgame, then I'd want them to have an extended rest of sorts, where they are together, and happy. Their fans, at least, deserve that for all the years they've invested in them. Now, Nick and Sharon might return, someday, when Noah is an adult, and the story calls for it. From that point on, however, I would shift the Newman family dynamics to that of Victoria and a now-grown Abby competing for Victor's attention in the boardroom and in the family.

Exactly! Of course! Y&R is all about taking its' time with the really important stories. I see Brooks and Phyllis as being as big as Lance and Lorie, with Lance, of all people, as his son's perpetual rival for Phyllis' affections.

Phyllis wouldn't work anymore. They are more like brother and sister at this point, plus Michael is the only stable figure who has been in Phyllis' life consistantly. Phyllis screws up all her romances, but she had been able to maintain her friendship with Michael.

I think Lauren needs a rival to bring her claws out though. She is best when she is defending what is hers and being a bitch.

Ok, folks I am done for the night. It was fun. Haven't talked that much about Michael and Lauren in ages.

    • I absolutely love the idea of Krista Allen being on the show. I wouldn't saddle her with Jen though. I'd create a brand new character for her. She could be a diva who lives Beyond The Gates and is gradually seen at the country club. Then I'd do a slow roll out where the Duprees don't like her and her family because she is part of the first white family that "infiltrated" Beyond The Gates. Then slowly...and I mean slowly...expand Krista's character's family as a rival to the Duprees as some have said the show should have. A younger son to mix it up with Chelsea/Kat, a daughter to maybe run for office against Martin. Krista Allen could easily be a great matriarch for a rival family.

    • They said Kate was on the board too.  I am confused if that's all new developments or we always knew that.  I really have no idea why Kate would be on the hospital board.

Then in a brilliant moment she invoked the words of Claire Labine, said by Rosalind Cash as Mary Mae Ward to Stone, near death, a now very famous quote: "Every moment of my life, whether filled with joy or with pain, has the potential for grace realized. Whether it's an opportunity to learn, or whether it's to make a connection, or whether it's to find love which you didn't think existed, these are gifts from god & to throw them back in his face is something unthinkable to me."
    • That would make sense; he is to DAYS as the Quartermaines are to GH, in terms of the hospital board. If only DAYS had a hospital worth being a board member of.

    • I think Arielle Prepetit is great, but I almost wish Naomi had been Nathan and Jacob were Jacqueline (shades of Tom and Margo). We’d have another Dupree son, and the idea of Bill being a disgraced role model for his male lawyer son would have a different resonance around masculinity and generational trauma, especially since we already have Chelsea for the female Hamilton daughter POV. Just for the balance.
    • I actually like Alex/Gabi.   I didn't mind JJ/Gabi, but I agree JJ is a bore.  I am confused as to why Brady is on the hospital board?  Something to do with Isabella, I assume?   If Rachel is the shooter the recast makes a bit more sense.
    • @FaulknerI do agree with you about the male characters. I feel like I've been overlooking that because a female-driven soap has been so rare these days.  They have some relationships they could build upon but not nearly enough. The male characters for the most part don't have any friends or family to help develop them. This is also part of the issue with having only one main family.
    • I still suspect they won't show a kid holding and shooting a gun. I think she stabbed him, and then someone else shot him to cover it up.
