Yes, I know, hence my post.

I only started watching this show in the LML era, about a month before Carmen Mesta was killed.

With no preconceptions of how a character would or wouldn't act, and no nostalgic longing for scenes opening with close-ups of bouquets, I found her show to be much better written than the show that currently exists. Her stories were paced better, she played character beats better, and the dialogue was definitely much more engaging, especially on the episodes credited to Bernard Lechowick.

I think everyone was too wrapped up in the hysteria of 'this isn't the way my Y&R is supposed to be!' to realize that it was a actually a very good soap opera.

I respectfully disagree.

I do not think her entire run was awful, but as someone who started Y&R in 2000 it was obvious, painfully so, that what Y&R was becoming was not what it should have been. I just thought LML was a bad match at Y&R. She would have been perfect at a soap like GH, even maybe Days. But by the end it was obvious she was writing Y&R, a daily soap opera that airs all year, as a primetime one hour seasonal show. And that just doesnt work, thats not what a soap opera was.

I mean, granted i know the history because when i started i became obsessed with it, but still. Just judging on thatlittle bit of time iw atched before she arrived to her exit, she was awful. And it didnt have anything to do with close up's of flowers or music playing. It had to do with the fact that no story worked for the characters. I am all for soaps curring the past and letting it go to move onto a better future (Hello, Days) but in this case, it just didnt work.

many aspects of the stories she told on Y&R would be great on a weekly primetime show, but it wasnt a very good written soap opera at all. She de-soap opera'd the soap opera.

OMG Phyllis has the nerve to say Sharon steals men from women.

Hey Pot meet Kettle

Yup.

Either one of those women ever judging anyone for cheating is the funniest thing.

Only question is what one is a bigger whore? But does it really matter? I mean being the least whore is still a whore.

It looks like Adam/CE is losing weight. He looked pretty slim and trim on yesterday's show. "I try to stay in my room and not get involved." Rhe-he-he-he-lllly, Adam? Nice line, buddy. He really laid it on thick with Heather. "Please, baby" B)

I think my friend rhythmchyc is onto something cuz our boy did throw in "...even though you prosecuted the case..." <_<<_<

One thing is bothering me from yesterday's show. What the hell happened to Sharon's depression, blackouts and sticky fingers? WTF? Is all of that now forgotten because A. The charges were dropped? B. She's knocked-up? Has she ever mentioned therapy again since a week or so ago? The story would be more interesting if they kept a little of crazy bitch Sharon while she's preggers, right? I hope they simply aren't boiling it all down for a run-of-the-mill "Whose the Daddy" story. Ugh.

Billy: She's PREGNANT, you MORON! SHUT UP!

Glo-Buggin':

I wasn't super-hating Glo until yesterday. Hearing all her crimes listed in that court... and her whine "It's all the Abbotts' fault! Them and their superior attitude!" She STILL thinks she did nothing wrong. But the worst is when the delusional harpy told Ashley she was to blame for John's death. Oh, no you didn't! You bitch.

Kudos to JC for playing every unlikeable beat. Because it sure had the desired effect. Cruella has it coming!

True, but if/when you do after the age of, oh, twenty-five? It's not as fun anymore -- and in fact, it's really sad.

Well, that's not true at all!!!!!! :)

I have to say, LOVED waking up this morning and reading Khan/Cashton/JP's posts. Lots of food for thought, and really, really respectful. Always nice to find that. :) And count me in as one of Stacy's fans. I agree with JP - this isn't so much about the mystery of who Mary Jane is. That was interesting to me in January and February. But now, Haiduk's impressed me so much, and made me feel as sympathetic towards her as I am scared of her, that I don't care about her identity.

My biggest problem with recent daytime psychos is that they're always so one-note. They're just non-stop crazy. Which is funny and entertaining, but not exactly well-rounded characterizations. One of the things that made Sheila Carter (in her ORIGINAL incarnation) such a popular character was how REAL she was. Yes, she was bat [!@#$%^&*] crazy, but she had moments of happiness, and moments of pain, and moments of sensuality, and moments of sadness and grief. You hated her and felt sorry for her and were scared of her, and occasionally, Kimberlin Brown actually made you happy for her.

THat's totally what I see happening here. SHe's mentally unbalanced, but it's not psycho-lunatic running around town licking steak knives and tying people up in harnesses.

ETA: I just finished reading the whole thread, and realized I just pretty much said what Cat did - LOL! Sorry!

I agree with Greg's GL... Sharon's depression and stuff seems to be forgotten... I was also quite bothered by the fact that Nick and Phyllis had just finally gotten back together after her breakup and the entire storyline seemed to be heading to an ending but didn't - and then suddenly the episode after they were already on a completely different storyline of Phyllis whining about Nick leaving RS. Why didn't they wait a minute before jumping on the next one? Did the May sweeps pressure them? Hmmmm...

Remember he's planning to lose enough weight to slip out of his ankle bracelet.

Adam is one devious puppy and he is soooo going to get Heather.

Hiding from The Mustache.

So, the Mole was hiding from the Mustache?

JOKE.

Only question is what one is a bigger whore?

Well, they don't call her "Sharin'-It-With-Everyone" for nothing. ;)

But does it really matter?

Not really. Especially when Zapato's probably getting more action than all of GC combined.

I have to say, Phyllis must have blinders on where her peccadillos are concerned. How can she say with a straight face that Sharon steals everyone's man? Girl, why do you think you came to town in the first damn place?!

Polygamy may be illegal... but Khan... jp... Cashton... I want us to move to the Big Love compound so that I can marry your posts!

I'm like the wind, baby, and you can't fasten down the wind. ;)

What the hell happened to Sharon's depression, blackouts and sticky fingers? [...] I hope they simply aren't boiling it all down for a run-of-the-mill "Whose the Daddy" story.

I think that's exactly what they're doing, Greg; and it stinks, b/c I'd rather see a storyline that probes into Sharon's psychological condition, and maybe even sheds some light on her background, rather than one where we have to guess which emotionally constipated himbo knocked her up.

Licking what? Tying up people where?

Take my advice, brimike: never write for a soap opera. I'd hate to see where the recesses of your mind will lead us. ;)
