True. Tristan Rogers complained about how Robert treated Robin when he first returned and the antagonism was toned down in his future visits. The Robert/Robin relationship was finally repaired by Sri Rao on Night Shift 2. Tony Geary is going the other way. I read that interview and it totally convinced me that my don't care any more strategy is the right one.

TG has always considered himself a maverick. A provocateur. For decades, people were always telling him what a maverick anti-hero Luke was. I guess he finally believed the BS.

But I agree, Ann_SS. Returning to GH recently and watching it "at a distance," just enjoying it for the little things it can do right, not getting too invested in the characters, is the way to go. I have found a new appreciation for parts of the show as a result, which is kind of weird, LOL. Even Sonny doing his "Why me, God, why?" shtick in the hospital chapel doesn't bother me as much as it used to. Of course, that may change according to the changes in plot...

I think you both have the right idea, but the contempt GH has for the viewers is just so blatant I have a hard time disconnecting from feelings of disgust. I also don't get how they manage to do so wrong by people they seem to love, like Spinelli. I just don't understand what they do. I don't understand how they manage to burn through so many flavors of the month (Logan, Cooper, that young cop Maxie dated who was killed). I keep thinking they are going to kill off Johnny soon, for the same reason. I'm surprised they haven't yet. Perhaps someone put their foot down.

So, I'm genuinely interested in the issue of Ethan's paternity.

I think if he's Robert's there is some real traction here: First, they can pursue the Lulu thing. Second, Geary can play the homoerotic subtext he seems to be playing without seeming incestuous. Third, it continues to reaffirm Robert as Holly's great love. Fourth, once Ethan grows up, it gives Robin more family in PC. That's a good thing, because it might humanize Ethan...and I'd love to see Robin as a "big sister" to someone besides Maxie. Finally, it retains the footprint of the Scorpios in PC...

Of course, the beat that is missing is Robert and ANNA's reaction to all this. Maybe that will get played on Night Shift 3 :).

Do we know anything for CERTAIN now? I'm so confused, between switched DNA and allegations of Holly lying.

Benard did this scene with ... forget her name ... the Bronx girl ... the other day. And he was really jealous/upset that she had slept with Johnny. He felt he was losing a friend. And he was listing his miserable life...being married to a woman he can't stand blah blah blah.

It was a pity party, but it was funny. I don't know if Benard meant it to come out that way, but there was real humor in Sonny eliciting sympathy for himself. It made me wonder if there is a subtext in the writing of "Sonny's an idiot...he just doesn't realize it".

I actually think that MB comes alive when in scenes with LL (Olivia).

As for geary, he does a lot more than let them do this to luke, he plays a vary big hand in it. people always bash SB and MB but leave TG out of it. he is just as bad, if not worse. The luke you are seeing now is the luke TG wants.

I like MB with LLC, too. But then, I am a newly-converted Olivia fangirl. I also think, Mark, that Benard WAS playing it for laughs. He was playing it so Olivia could say "Oh, boo hoo! Grow up!"

And ITA about TG. I do think he is a creative person who wanted more for himself than Daytime. He found the sudden fame difficult to handle in the 80s (drugs, lack of privacy, etc). He's always wanted to play darker stuff and push the envelope. Now he's saddled with this job that I don't think he is particularly enamoured of, but it pays the rent and more besides. He is frustrated and feeling like his best opportunities are behind him. So might as well get your kicks where you can. And wield power where you can.

I often wonder what TG would do with a role on another soap. The type of role often offered to Roscoe Born (and I just need this excuse to say that i was IN LOVE with Born's Robert Barr on Santa Barbara. But that's not the type of role I am talking about).

Not to psychobabble but...

You can watch his engagement with look as a long process of DISengagement. First he said he hated soaps. Then, after he was on top, he quit. Then, he came back as someone else. Then, apparently, he came back as a Luke he HATED...but has brought Luke to this point. Somewhere along the line, he started taking half the year off.

He's felt shackled by Luke a lot in the past. Maybe his goal is to resolutely KILL Luke...turn him into something even his most ardent fans could not support. Maybe even expose the real ugliness that was always there...from the time he was a rapist and hoodlum. To make us FACE what utter SLIME we "worshipped" ("Rape me, Luke") for too long.

Once he makes us confront the real ugliness in behind the fairy tale, and we let him go, he can quit, live on his savings, and spend the rest of his days free of Luke. Because no one will ever want to see that foul wreck of a human again.

Tony Geary isn't that deep. He is on GH for the money. Amsterdam is an expensive place to live. He isn't quitting unless his health or something else happens. He will be on GH on its last day which won't be that long from now.

Oh, I understand the feelings of disgust watching GH. It got to the point of overwhelming me and I would be literally be enraged at what was happening on the screen. Then I had a moment of clarity and realized that I had to gain some perspective. This is just a soap where people are working to make a buck. They really don't care so I had to stop caring about the show as a whole. I still care about my favorite character, Robin and her relationship with Patrick and there are the occasional entertaining moments, but really, I'm done. It is disappointing because GH has so much potential. I will never understand Bob Guza or JFP. They are like children who smash everything in sight to entertain themselves and expect us to be entertained.

And I totally believe that Johnny is dead man walking. He does not have much longer.

He's not the only one. I'll bet Maurice Benard and Steve Burton would be out the door if Guza left. Laura Wright and Kelly Monaco might be persuaded to stay. Kim McCullough sounds like she's ready to try new avenues, no matter who is writing. Jason Thomson has been taken under MB's wing so maybe he would leave, too. NLG will stay with whoever wants to write for her.

    • I knew you would be so excited seeing your girl Brookey as #1!!!! She also WINS as to Frequently Married!!!
    • Yes, Stacy does this both for early DAYS & early GH. I have written some for her, for DAYS. But just one tiny point & that is that she only deals with DVDs. I realize that is not the point of your posting but it seemed the right thing to clarify. I know that you know that video tapes is past, not present.
    • Hahahha I think sleeping with almost all of your daughters's boyfriends and husbands and getting pregnant... definitely gives Brooke the right to top 1 place. Long live the whore of Beverly hills.

    • CurlyQGrl has DVDs of some episodes, that they can sell, but that doesn't matter. What is helpful: they describe the scenes on the tapes, so you can read that as recaps without ordering anything. Doesn't really give storylines, though, which is what you asked for.  Here's the links anyhow. full menu https://www.angelfire.com/tv/curlyqgrl/menu.html GH page https://www.angelfire.com/tv/curlyqgrl/gh/menu.html GH 1960s https://www.angelfire.com/tv/curlyqgrl/gh/eps/gheps1960s.htm
    • I would argue that Another World never played "everything" for laughs. Even when there were comedic scenes in some storylines there were other storylines that were not intended as comedy.  You give 1988 as the end point, and Mary was on the canvas from August 1986 to February 1989, so she must have overlapped with the despised laughs you are referring to at least half of the time she was there. I honestly can't recall any real comedy that Mary would have been part of. I don't think she was lighthearted about choosing between two husbands, MJ's prostitution, Kathleen's death, or even her son Scott dating her daughter Cheryl.  I would have said that the amount of comedy depended on the head writer and there was more comedy under Richard Culliton and Gary Tomlin in 1984 than subsequent headwriters. I guess there was an outbreak of more comedy when Cecile kidnapped Cass from his wedding in 1986, but in general the Sin Stalker wasn't presented as funny, Mitch's return wasn't funny, John's arrival wasn't funny, Reginald wasn't funny. The tone was serious even if the plots verged on the ludicrous. And maybe that's what you mean -- but I would make a distinction between intentional comedy and storylines I can't take seriously for other reasons.
    • I'm excited for us to get back to a full weeks worth of episodes and also us beginning to move into the episodes filmed once the show premiered. We're already starting to see changes in the lighting and the way certain characters are styled. Of course we know this week we have our first recast as well. After the big Eva reveal, I hope the show continues to move into a positive direction and that we see them starting to fix some of the things we've all had issues with.
    • It seems like they may have been going in one direction for Andre and then changed their mind. He had this player/bachelor thing going at first where he was messing with Dani, seemed to be feeling Eva, and then somehow smitten by bland Ashley of all people. I feel like Ashley was supposed to be the one that finally made him want to be with someone and settle. The way he talked her up in those earlier episodes was really confusing. The wonderful, amazing nurse Ashley and conveniently she's unattainable because she has a partner, but he can't stop thinking of her and takes these busted pics of her. It was a mess. However, it all seems to have been dropped. I honestly feel like Andre can go. That may be an unpopular opinion but I don't need his breathy final syllable to be content with BTG. It's always like "There's gotta be another wh-ahyy"
    • This is where McLaibey falls apart. It becomes clear that McTavish had not thought past Brent/Marion...so the energy drops and she starts throwing things at the wall (Blakes twins, Lonatrat.)   Fans HATED this funeral. Everyone is mad at everyone else, which is fine, the death of a beloved community figure would give people a reason to come together...(Quint and Nola could come together at least for  a bit to support each other, Nola and VAn could finally admit they kinda, sorta like each other) Its just an example of McTavish's mean writing.   I have a feeling they were going to make Dahlia Frank's kid but they chickened out. Making Tina a prostitute didn't help, they could have been lovers when they were young but felt society pressure to part. Marcus took over David's role (you can't have two young black men at that time...)   Get used to it...this will happen, the same storyline over and over until the end.
