Rauch finally got 4 walls in a set...it's a first for Y&R so far as I can remember. It was certainly very Y&R, it didn't looked cramped to hell like on GL...it was lush and elegant. Very Y&R.

The whole episode was perfection...Jeanne and Jess are MAGNIFICENT.

So just like that Jill and Katharine are back to hating each other and beign sworn enemies? I really wish they hadnt have gone down this route and erased all the development that has happened between them over the past several years

I didn't interpret it that way. I think there's clearly some love there now, like Katherine telling Jill that she'd still consider Jill her daughter no matter what the DNA test proved, but of course, Jill wasn't have any of that especially when she was clearly intoxicated. Jill more than provoked Katherine on Friday's US episode, and Katherine extended more than one olive branch to Jill, but there's no conflict if they're content with one another again.

Jill is clearly upset by this news, more so than Katherine really. Jill feels lost and alone, like she has for many years, and now that the DNA tests proved that they aren't related, she knows that the "bond" she developed with Katherine was fake, since it came up under fake circumstances. She was right when she told Katherine that deep down she must be happy, since Katherine never in her wildest dreams wanted Jill for a daughter.

I think these two women love each other dearly on some weird and sick level, but this reversal of their faminial ties throws everything into chaos. They might fight and argue again, but deep down, there's higher element of love and respect that was missing before. It adds a new layer to their relationship, IMO.

Good observation. Now, the Phick-Shick stuff involves Jack, Billy, Mary Jane Benson, Chloe -- AND all the people who love each of these folks. There is only one degree of separation to Ashley (who will be mad at Sharon for what she is doing to both Billy and Jack)...Victor is her former father-in-law.

In other words, when this story explodes, the whole canvas will explode with it.

So nice to enjoy one of these brief moments in time -- they happen on all soaps -- when a show just gets it all right.

I can't tell you how much I have been enjoying seeing the Chancellor set from a different perspective. That said, I imagine we'll go back to the "regular" view soon, and I'll treasure that too.

I like that they set up this altered set and then used it in three consecutive episodes. They are clearly still being clever with their resources over there.

Yes. I have enjoyed Jeanne trying to straddle "loving" and "I hate this bitch".

But what has been most enjoyable about this tale to me is that, after months of Cooper shining, this last little bit finally gave Walton the spotlight. It's nice that she could get right back into it too. One wonders, after years of such neglect, if a performer is still capable of this kind of thing. But she pulled it off without a hitch.

For me, it has shown me how much we "lost" Jill these last few years, and how glorious it is to have her back. Sadly, this is a character who must not be allowed to ever be truly happy.

Kay tried, and she only got nasty when Murphy and Nikki, etc., were attacked.

Also, I'm quite sure that when the dust settles, the undercurrent of love will also be there. Jill denies it, but her eyes (love that actress!) told a very different story.

I just had the strangest dream that instead of Mac walking into the wedding all solemnly, Adrienne Leon does LOL.Then, even stranger, everyone greets her like she's Colleen, ecstatic to see her, even though Tammin's there behind all of them. But then, the weirdest thing happens when Tammin sees Adrienne, she runs up to Adrienne, introducing her as her best friend and calls her... Mika LOL.

Mika is the co-host to Morning Joe on MSNBC.

Anyways, Jill's quivering bottom lip??!?! This woman played Friday's episode on so many damn levels. It's so good they're giving her juicy material again because I still remember everyone begging for her to even appear on screen the last couple of years. So bloody awesome.

I'm also glad this storyline is finally over.

That twenties music was so jarring. I felt like I was watching The Shining sometimes. And that wedding dress. And Chloe's childish vows. I love how he looks standing next to me?!?! How did no one crack up as she rambled on and on?

Does anyone remember how the set looked when Billy and Mac got married? Is that on youtube? I wonder if Billy was experiencing deja vu. His bewildered facial expressions made it seem so. Chloe's really borderline crazy. I really hope they don't make her homicidal because Elizabeth's fantastic. But the past few days, she has seemed O-C. Scary.

I'm in the minority again but I still feel sorry for Nick and even sorrier for Sharon. I don't know. Maybe cause I can relate to what she's going through. And none of this is new. Both of them are cheaters and Phyllis is conniving. I'm not surprised by any of this.

I remember years ago, when Patty shot Jack, they showed the 4th wall of the Abbott home.

I think it was a hand held camera effect and shot from the staircase looking into the living room.

There was a window on the wall.Because it was the one and only time we saw it,that memory has stayed with me.

Does anyone else recall that?

We also saw Adam's bedroom at the Newman ranch last week.I think that was a first.I don't think Nikki & Victor's bedroom was ever featured regularly.

On occasion the Newman set has been extended to include a dining room.I think it looked much better.

Now I'm reminded of thhe Abbott kitchen. That set has not been seen in years.

Oh yes! I remember it so distinctly. As I recall, it all started with Patty at the top of the staircase, overhearing Jack (Terry Lester!) tell Jill (Deborah Adair!!!!!!) that the only reason he married Patty was to get the presidency of Jabot. That made Patty crazy. Bang, bang, bang.

My personal recollection is that the stairway/fourth wall scene was about Patty's overhearing...but I seem to think the shooting took place in Jack's office. Am I wrong?

I like that dining room. We also had the Newman set extension of Victor's study during his "hermit" days, wherein he was locked in the room on the right (as you approach the bar). We also once saw a dungeon in the basement :) for a few months.

The Newman dining room is like the Forrester dining room (on B&B). Apparently it is always there, but the camera shoots "just in front of it".

Honestly, last I recall that was when Mamie and either Dru or Brad were having conversations by the back door. Have they shown the kitchen in the past decade? I have this vague memory of Gloria in there once.

With Adam in it too? That might be fun....

I'm not actually sure I was paying that much attention to the scenery....

In all honestly, the scenery at Y&R -- the old sets and the new ones -- is so beautiful it is hard not to watch. The sets have so much detail and attention to aesthetic appeal. So, yes, I strangely find myself looking at sets (which, if you knew me, is just not what I'd normally do). But Y&R is a visual feast.

I love how every room at Newman or Abbott or in the Newman Ranch or in Kay's house is perfectly consistent with the visual style too.

I also love the building of alcoves and entrance ways and hallways and back rooms in many sets...just little bits of trompe d'oeil that please the eye and create the impression greater depth and majesty than there probably is. I basically never want to see the Y&R set for real, so as to shatter my illusions. (Who am I kidding? I'd book the first flight...)

    • Hey, I'm wondering if anyone has cross-referenced Spauldingfield's undated episodes with the German playlists? An angel has been uploading to the Soap Vault and it would be great to be able to date all those episodes. I have access to rename them, if anyone has a list.

    • It’s sad that all these fabulous soap writers who truly understand the craft are dead/going to die soon. I wonder if there will ever be a resurgence of writers who can carry on their legacy one day.

    • It's almost comical that it's okay and it's appropriate for you of all people to post Drake/John clips. Do you have no remorse at all?

    • BTG is fire!!! It has definitely found it's footing and has exceeded my expectations.  Wednesday's episode and the scene with Dani & Chelsea was everything. I wish my 13yo self could have seen a scene like that.  Dana/Leslie is absolutely nuts, but I love her. TMG, is just amazing, as is AM. All of the cast is improving and settling in.  I can't wait to see how all the stories play out.

    • GH 1976 Pt 5 Cam portrays the betrayed-and-long-suffering husband magnificently, telling Diana that emotional infidelity is as bad as the other kind. He then broodingly tells Diana that if he’s found gone over the balcony of the penthouse, it won’t have been suicide—Leslie will have pushed him. Or, more likely, she would find a less obvious method. But he can handle both their problems, he assures Diana. He reaches for the phone and in moments arranges for a plum job offer for Peter as a psychiatric consultant at one of Cam’s West Coast companies, with a lucrative salary to go with it. When Diana assures him that Peter won’t accept the position, Cam insists that it’s up to Diana to see that he does, for the sake of her marriage. After a harrowing night with their patient, whose suicide attempt followed the loss of a baby, Leslie breaks down from both her patient’s agony and her own. But, as she tells Peter, she has to see Cam and end it now. She confronts him in the apartment and tells him that his actions were designed to take Laura from her and his complete disregard for her feelings have ended their marriage. Cam insists that he found Waverly out of love for her, which she doubts. But he  manages to convince her that he’ll sleep in the den, |so she won’t have to move to a hotel. He hopes this minor concession will give him time to make her realize what she’s about to give up. But in the morning he sees that she’s still adamant as she tells him things have to be his way or no way. Ironically, this is the day Men and Women Magazine hits the stands with their cover feature story “A Unique Medical Team,” with Leslie and Peter on the cover. Diana, badly upset at Peter’s overwhelming concentration on Leslie’s problems, commiserates with Cam, who points out that the article “makes them sound like they’re married!”  To Terri’s relief, Jeff is finally able to overcome his resentment of his brother and makes up with Rick. He reminds Rick that it is he, Jeff, who is the winner he has Monica, and she loves him. With Rick back on surgical service, Monica decides to specialize in surgery. Jeff is hurt when he learns that Steve has approved her transfer to surgical service, as he feels that Rick’s surgical success magnifies his own failure as a surgical candidate. To compensate, Jeff deliberately fondles Monica whenever Rick is around, as if to remind him that he won in the long run. But Rick can only suppress so much, and when Monica loses a young patient and cries in his arms, Rick kisses her with great passion and confesses he never stopped loving her and wanting her. Monica, in turn, explains that she fell in love with Jeff only out of her grief over Rick, and has never stopped loving him. Monica is frantic when Rick tells her they can’t hurt Jeff and he’s moving out of their apartment because he can’t sleep twenty feet from her and his brother without someday having the situation explode and destroying Jeff. Heather Grant, a young girl who followed a General Hospital intern to Port Charles after he told her he was a doctor on a singles’ cruise, sees the answer to her determination to “better herself” when she recognizes Peter from the magazine cover and learns that his wife has just lost her baby-sitter. With references her mother helped forge, Heather gets the job, and immediately she promotes a live-in position by claiming her mother will insist she go home otherwise. Peter, initially reluctant, comes to see the advantages and agrees. With her emotional problems solved, Audrey decides to accept her friends’ advice and look to the future. She goes to Steve’s office and tells him she loves him. To her joy, he replies, “I’ve always loved you, and never more than at this moment. And this time we’re going to live happily ever after.” But their happiness is shattered when, moments later, Steve falls down a flight of stairs and suffers an occipital skull fracture and internal injuries. Audrey, constantly at his bedside, knows she never stopped loving him but just didn’t realize it. Steve comes to after twenty-four hours, but finds he has no feeling in his legs and can’t move them. Dr. Marriner, chief of neurosurgery, finds that Steve has a fracture of the seventh thoracic vertebra and surgery is almost impossible due to the risk to the spinal cord. Explaining that these things sometimes heal themselves, he suggests that Steve accept confinement to a wheelchair for a year, to see what happens. Audrey optimistically insists that their wedding will go off as planned, but Steve informs her that he won’t marry her unless his full functions are restored, including his ability to perform sexually. Since Steve was a good friend of their father’s, Rick and Jeff’s relationship is totally restored in this  crisis, leaving Monica to feel that their closeness shuts her out. To keep them both close to her, Monica begs Rick to change his mind and not move out, but he assures her he’s not a masochist and won’t subject himself to more of this for anything. When none of her machinations can prevent Rick from leaving, Monica decides she’ll find him an apartment and set it up as a love nest for the two of them. Cam has to fly to New York, as embezzlement has been discovered in his corporate books, and Cam is shocked to learn that his right-hand man, Mac, is the culprit. When Cam fires him without severance or recommendation, Mac warns Cam that he will someday get his just reward. Cam, angry and bitter, arrives home to find Leslie packing to leave him for good. When he accuses her of never having been a real wife to him, Leslie retorts that he too is admitting there is no marriage. Furious, Cam informs her that she doesn’t respond to patience and gentleness, and then he rapes her. Afterward, he forces her down to the car and shoves her in, driving off toward their mountain retreat. When Leslie begs him to let her go, he tells her he never relinquishes what he owns.He explains he’s going to make her ‘into the kind of wife he wants and she will respond —in ways she never dreamed existed. When she asks  if rape is part of his instruction plans, he savagely replies, “If necessary.” In terror, Leslie grabs for the wheel, and they struggle as the car, out of control, crashes. Leslie is later found dazed and in shock, wandering in the woods. At the hospital she is able to remember enough coherently to send the police to the area. They find Cam dead in the wreckage at the bridge. When Peter tells her Cam is dead, Leslie immediately blames herself, claiming that she killed him. Peter reminds her that she was in the hands of an evil and dangerous man.
