Y&R: Jill To Be Temporarily Recast

Yes! I'd sacrifice all of them for Walton. That sounded weird.

LOL I know what you mean.... I have not been this pissed off since the double whamy I had to endure in December, 2006 learning Julia Barr had been thrown away, and Cady McClain in a matter of weeks. This just takes the winds right out of my sails.... I was enjoying Y&R so much, if this isn't resolved.... it really diminishes its effect. I almost wish Latham had canned Jess.... because she wasn't being used then.... now that she is back to the forefront, it makes it that much harder!

Hopefully the cast will stick up for her, they all love her from what I understand.

Thanks, I didn't know that. It makes me wonder, however, since he shares the title with MAB, if they confer about issues and maybe his opinion of actors influence hers or if it's all MAB. Like Jess walking, Rauch saying something like "I'd never put up with that, RECAST ASAP!" or if MAB is another JFP in disguise.

Both Rauch and MAB love Jess Walton. From pics I've seen, she appears to be close with Rauch on set and she's friendly with MAB outside of the show.

This issue goes beyond Rauch and MAB, it goes back to the overall production company that handles contracts.

If Jess, like totally quit and walked, that would be a huge story and I'd love to read every word of it. Also, if she quit and they are just like fine whatever and that casting call wasn't a scare tactic, then they are totally f'd up.

Who knows, I'm sure more details will leak sooner rather than later.

See, knowing this makes it even more tricky. Whoever handles the contracts at Bell Dramatic Serials whether it's Bill Bell Jr. or not, Bill Bell Jr. is MAB's husband. If MAB and Jess are friendly outside of the set, doesn't that pose a conflict of interest. She's being asked to take a cut or less guarantees from Bill Bell Jr. or someone close to him. Yet everyone adores her. It seems like a complex situation. Like you would think with her history, her character, her role in the currently storylines, MAB would say to her husband "it's not a good idea for the sake of the show to cut her salary, etc." You know?

Sadly, with this economy, people have to put their business interests first before personal relationships. I know that's an awful thing to say, but it's so true.

But let's just hope an agreement can be made, anything is possible.

Yes....... we should pray in whatever form or way, just hold out hope for Walton...

See, I totally understand that, 100%. But at the same time, there are so many other people they could cut who are useless. They have already been mentioned in this thread. I think the whole thing is a little sketchy and shady right now. I wish we had more info.

If you look at the canvas, do we still need Gloria? Devon? Jana? Trya? Danny? even Phyllis has run her course. That's six contract actors right there that they can cut the fat with. Leave Jess alone!

I don't think it's about money, it's about episode guarantees, which differs somewhat.

But again, keep the faith people, this could all work itself out very soon. I don't think the show would give up on Jess easily, we have to believe that.

Yeah, if the issue is episode guarantees, then they probably don't have a hell of lot planned for her once the mother/daughter reversal thing is done. It's probably just a plot device anyway to add romantic conflict to Billy/Mac.

I just want to know what the hell has Hogan Sheffer ever done to inspire an almost unheard of viewer loyalty that no matter what happens on shows that it can't be his fault.

Not just here but so many have said they believe he is the creative one behind the scenes and not MAB. And then other things as well.

I mean look at the man's track record. He has been on two shows besides Y&R - both shows with him as leader had terrible terrible records with story. The only time he is on a show that is good and people love the stories are when he has a strong co-writer. On ATWT with Culliton and on here with Maria Bell. The only time Days was any good when he was there was after Edward Scott came on.

Plus if anyone doesn't want to write for Jill it fits Sheffer's pattern more than anything. Except for very few older men and women (from their 50's on up) Sheffer never has written for them well. Look at what he did to Tom, Margo, Bob, Lisa, Kim, Lucinda and so many others at ATWT. The only way he could write for Barbara was turning her into a crazy woman. Then when he gets to Days all of a sudden all the older characters are backburnered which fans blamed on Corday.

I honestly don't think he has the power at Y&R to get rid of Jill, but if anyone thinks that the vets will get better treatment if they turned the reigns over to Sheffer they need to think again. If they did that you would hardly ever see Katherine again. And if you did it would be in a hospital bed. Jill would probably go psycho.

The man can be a good writer, but he needs to be right where he is at.

No, Hogan Sheffer as a sole HW is the worst idea... either with MAB or out. The arrangement is working fine so far.

Maria Arena and Hogan Sheffer are the worst kind of mix there ever was. They only enhance each others shortcomings.

Steve, I haven't gotten that at all. Most every post I see agrees that Sheffer is talented, but needs to be paired with others who balance out his shortcomings. I don't see any of this "unheard of viewer loyalty" when it comes to Sheffer.

If it is just an episode guarantee thing they are not wanting to cut Jill or Jess. They just plan to use her less.

And who knows who else they plan to use less at this point. More people could be asked to take less guarantees. Asking a person to take less guarantees is not wanting to fire them or get rid of them. It just means they plan to use them less.

Who says if they cut all those people that will use Jill more. If they don't have story planned for her, cutting someone else is not suddenly going to create more story for her.

And if they end up getting forced to write for her - we know from the past that often that does not turn out well at all.

From the rumors that went around Hogan was forced to write for some folks at Days by Corday. And what he came up with was awful for them.

Again, tense contract negotiations are nothing out of the ordinary. The key is finding some sort of middleground where both parties come out with some piece of mind and integrity.

I have to believe they're willing to negotiate further.

Jill is VERY prominent in spoilers coming up, so I don't think they'd be too willing to let this go on for too long.
