If Jess is very ill, then she must feel even worse if she hears the rumors that she's only interested in money. :( I don't want her to be ill, but I also don't want her to go the way of Don Diamont. I won't say Jess is irreplaceable, since she's a recast herself, but she brings so much to Jill which I rarely see in the script. I can't imagine what Jill would be like if Judith Chapman was playing her now (and I like Judith Chapman).

I read the contract rumors. To me, they're illogical. Jess signed her contract during the LML years in the winter, not the springtime. If I remember correctly it was a 4 year deal. If she signed in 2005 then it'd be winter 2009. If she signed in 2006 it'd be winter 2010. The timing just doesn't quite line up if my memory isn't failing me,

Furthermore, Jess is front burner.

When Don Diamont had his negotiation he was backburned, Joshua Morrow's Nick was killed in a plane crash during his, MTS's Nikki left town devastated...Y&R has a long history of "It's contract time, your character is in a perilous situation...you decide"...to abandon that strategy now? Not likely.

As well, my information matches up with the information another poster has. Admittedly, the information we have is somewhat vague, but for Jess's sake, the vagueness is a good thing.

MAB loves Jess Walton, Jeanne Cooper loves Jess Walton, Eric Braeden loves Jess Walton, Peter Bergman loves Jess Walton, Melody Thomas Scott loves Jess Walton, Lauralee Bell loves Jess Walton, Paul Rauch loves Jess Walton and Lee Phillip Bell loves Jess Walton. If anyone is going to be treated well during contract talks/health issues, it's going to be Jess. She deserves that.

Finally, everyone should consider this: couldn't the contract rumors be a way of suppressing health concerns? If I was Jess Walton I'd rather have people think I was in negotiations rather than fighting for my life. She's a quiet person, she handles things with class and dignity.

WORD to your entire post. Jess Walton is one of the most professional people in not only daytime, but the industry as a whole. I mean she spent the better half of this decade on the backburner and she was a team player all the way..... MAB has done alot of good things, but I think her biggest achievement is re-intergrating Jill into the cast again. Jill is tied to so many people on the canvas again. I just love it!

I hadn't thought of that. I only cringe at the contract rumors because most of the time, people who are the subject of those stories face some backlash where they're painted as some type of money-grubbing diva/divo.

I hope Jess feels better soon, I can't imagine Y&R without her.

Okay, this whole thread has led me to a firm conviction:

1. I will accept a temporary recast -- anyone -- to deal with frontburner story that MUST be resolved. Like, let's say Jill is going to be on 3-4 days a week for the next month, in the scripts that are written. In that case, I accept that a recast -- a GOOD one -- to work though the scripts and outlines already written and for which it is too late to make a change.

2. Immediately, and it is plausible given Jill's high drama, they need to rescript future story to get Jill out of town to London. Her mom could have another brain tumor. Snapper could need her. Or maybe Jill just needs a break from all the drama. Whatever.

3. Jill then stays off canvas until Jess is better/contract resolved/whatever.

4. If something bad should happen -- contract or health wise -- that says Jess can't come back, Jill needs to also be permanently expunged from the story. That will give Jeanne -- as a representative of the audience -- a chance to pay tribute to Jill-as-Jess.

What an awful thing. I hope Jess is "on the mend" and back on canvas in days.
