Its JFP and Guza that are killing GH with the Mob storylines and always throwing the spotlight on Jason,Sonny and Carly

Its Fronz fault that he is employing these losers.

How much time do you have? Really?

It touches my heart, that so many people are calling for a tone-down or an elimination of the mob. I don't know if it's a realistic dream, but it warms my heart, truly. I'm going to go with the dream scenario...

To cut the mob fat:

Olivia is diagnosed with a deadly neurological disorder (linked to the biotoxin, which has a stronger effect on Olivia's rare blood type), and on her deathbed confesses to Sonny that he has a son. Kate is horrified, and Sonny immediately realizes that she knew all along. The ultimate betrayal, Sonny banishes Kate from Port Charles, and leaves Port Charles in search of Dante. Jason is left to run Sonny's business, and Claudia makes another move which proves deadly for Spinelli. Jason is devastated, and goes on the warpath, killing Johnny as retaliation. Claudia loses it completely, and begs Jason to kill her, not wanting to live now that her brother's dead. Jason refuses, wanting her to suffer and knowing she doesn't have it in her to take her own life. Claudia is left a hollow shell and turns herself in to Mac at the PCPD for her crimes and Mac brings the case to the FBI. Claudia is sent to prison, and Mac is rewarded with a job offer with the FBI in Albany. The Police Commissioner title vacant, Anna Devane decides to set down more roots in Port Charles to be near Robin and Emma, so she takes the job. Robin is thrilled.

With Jason in complete control with no opposing power in Port Charles, Jason forces Ric to leave town. With Sonny gone from Port Charles, Carly finds herself gravitating more toward Jason, and this puts a strain on her marriage to Jax.

Lulu is emotionally destroyed after Johnny's murder and Spinelli's mob-related death, and is determined to prove Jason's organization was responsible. But not wanting vengeance, Lulu wants justice, so she decides to pursue a career in criminal law and works to become an FBI agent. Luke is horrified that both of his kids plan to work in law enforcement. Lucky is proud of his sister.

Maxie is also devastated by Spinelli's and Johnny's deaths and builds a wall around her heart again, admitting only briefly, in hindsight, that she was in love with Spinelli. Maxie carries on a brief sexual fling with Matt Hunter, and has a pregnancy scare. Matt freaks out and leaves town, and Maxie learns she isn't pregnant, and is relieved, since she doubts she'd be a good mother. With their mutual losses, Maxie and Lulu become even closer friends.

Robin continues battling her post-partum depression and relies more heavily on her neighbor Elizabeth and Cameron and Jake's playdates with Emma. Patrick and Elizabeth develop a strong friendship, and Robin starts to read more into it than actually exists... but Robin may end up making her own worst nightmare a reality.

Luke learns Ethan is his son by Holly Sutton. It's a surprise to Ethan as well. The Spencer children all struggle to accept new sibling Ethan, and Maxie enters into a no-strings arrangement with Ethan, determined not to become emotionally attached to a man ever again. Which is just fine with Ethan.

The Quartermaines DO need to be revitalized. And they REALLY killed those Qs in ways that it's difficult to resurrect them (they killed AJ TWICE! You KNOW Guza hated himself some AJ.) I think the best way would be to bring in a mature/hunky actor as Jimmy Lee Holt who wants to stake claim on his share of the Quartermaine fortune. Jimmy's divorced, but has his early 20s son JJ (um... Jimmy Jr! Duh!). They're both kind of simple farmhands, but Jimmy gets wise to Tracy's manipulative games VERY quickly and becomes more and more seduced by the power of the Quartermaine name. JJ just wants to get to know this family, but fears the money and influence will ruin their good nature. Of course Edward wants to groom the blank canvas JJ to take over ELQ one day, but Tracy can't conceive of that at all. Meanwhile, Jimmy Lee finds himself drawn to Monica, and Monica feels guilty to be attracted to Alan's brother not all that long after Alan's death. Jimmy also becomes a partner-in-crime to Monica as she researches Rebecca Shaw's background and determines that Rebecca IS Emily's twin. But does that make Rebecca family as well, or not? Rebecca proves to be attracted to the Quartermaine money as well, and may play on the Quartermaines' grief in order to access their bank account. Tracy of course, having never cared for Emily, sees Rebecca for the user that she is. Battle lines drawn, and the Quartermaines are fighting and doublecrossing once again. JJ Holt becomes romantically interested in Lulu. Rebecca's scamming is also obvious to Lucky who grew up conning and watching cons. Rebecca is caught between Lucky and Nikolas.

Helena returns as the power behind Equinox, and the REAL source of the biotoxin that nearly destroyed Port Charles. Helena has plans to use Sam to regain control of the Cassadines, which pulls Nikolas and Alexis into the story. Helena hopes to make Sam see Helena as the misunderstood victim over the years, and it actually starts to work. With Jax's marriage to Carly straining again, Jax works to help Alexis keep Sam out of Helena's clutches. But will that spark romance for Jax/Sam... or Jax/Alexis?

Lucas Jones returns to Port Charles with a few secrets. In pre-med courses at college, Lucas is reunited with a childhood friend, Tommy Hardy (Tom and Simone Hardy's son)! Both wanting to follow in their parents' footsteps, Lucas and Tommy bond over living up to high expectations. Lucas is hesitant to come out to Tommy, not sure how he'll take it, but Tommy is surprisingly accepting, and it actually brings them closer, surprising Lucas. Tommy takes an interest in Lucas's dating life, which doesn't particularly exist between exams and studying, but as study buddies, Lucas starts to wonder if Tommy may be playing for his team as well. Tommy is surprised to learn Lucas is using caffeine pills to make it through their late night study sessions, but Lucas assures Tommy that it's not a problem.

Mysterious benefactor Jeremy Cartier (Roscoe Born) arrives in Port Charles to bankroll most of General Hospital's renovations. Bobbie and Tracy are each quite intrigued by the man, and his interest in the hospital, and want to know more about him. Jeremy starts dating Bobbie, but Luke finds there's something not quite right about Jeremy and Luke and Tracy decide to investigate. What no one knows yet, is that Jeremy Cartier is actually Carter Jerome, the last living member of the Jerome crime family... aside from Lucas Jones! Carter has a plan to revive the Jeromes through Lucas, who unknowingly holds the key to the family's lost power. Lucas inherited a key to a safety deposit box, and Carter needs his nephew in order to bring their family to power again. That means trouble for Jason. And Lucas.

Robert Scorpio returns as well, wanting Anna's position as Police Commissioner! The old sparks are still there, and could be headed for a reunion... and Robert thinks he knows Jeremy Cartier from somewhere...

Who leaves: Matt Hunter (leaves town), Ric Lansing (leaves town), Damien Spinelli (dies), Mac Scorpio (leaves town), Olivia Falconari (dies), Kate Howard (leaves town), Sonny Corinthos (leaves town), Claudia Zaccharra (jail), Johnny Zaccharra (dies)

Who returns/arrives (on contract): Jimmy Lee Holt, JJ Holt, Lucas Jones, Tommy Hardy, Jeremy Cartier, Bobbie Spencer, Anna Devane, Robert Scorpio

Who returns/arrives (on recurring status): Helena Cassadine, Simone Hardy, Audrey Hardy (limited appearances), Epiphany Johnson (downgraded)

Romantic entanglements once the canvas is set:

Jeremy (aka Carter)/Bobbie

Ethan/Maxie

JJ/Lulu

Lucas/Tommy

Robin/Patrick/Elizabeth

Jason/Carly/Jax/Alexis(?)/Sam(?)

Lucky/Rebecca/Nikolas

Luke/Tracy

Monica/Jimmy Lee

Anna/Robert

Obviously this is all very transitional, but tried to salvage VERY damaged parts of the canvas and shed the most toxic parts of the mob story and still keep the mob to a lesser degree.

Great ideas here, Dave. A few comments/reactions -

Playing with a set of parameters (as we often do when we write fanfic!), I don't think Sonny/Jason/Spinelli could be written off permanently. How about finally send Sonny to jail, marking the beginning of a new arc for him. Perhaps he could meet a manipulative Jeremy Cartier in jail and the two could plan the ultimate "business" once they get out of jail, while unbeknownst to Sonny Jeremy is merely using him.

As for Spinelli's death... unfortunately the character has become part of the show's twisted moral center. Killing him off would be detrimental to an already shaky audience. Perhaps tie him to Jimmy Lee Holt? Perhaps he's Jimmy's son? We know next to nothing about Spinelli's history, so there's no reason this wouldn't work.

Jason can act as a supporting role in the drama, trying to reach out to a distant Sonny while he's in jail. He could rekindle his relationship with Sam and play into your Cassadine story.

Recast Lucky with Jonathan Jackson and put him with Elizabeth? For me?:o

Great ideas, Dave. When is the signature David Evan Smith role arriving?

You sir should be in the driver seat.GH would be a lot better with you on the creative team.

Above all we all agree that The Mob must go but DavidEvanSmith you are right,we will never get it because ABC Daytime let those monsters they call the creative team run wild.Maybe we email to ABC Itself about GH`s problems in order to save the soap.As a matter of fact that is a smart idea.

LOL, thanks!

Now, I used to love GH and now I couldn't give less of a sh*t if it got canceled...I think your ideas are AMAZING. I'd tune in to see them, especially the resurrection of Bobbie Spencer!

Thanks, but honestly, I'M not that crazy about my own ideas. And it's a pipe dream because Sonny would not leave the canvas so easily. It's definitely harder for me to conceive of taking GH in my own direction with necessary characters like Alan, AJ, and Justus not available to revitalize the Qs. Skye was de-Quartermained and written out. Ned and Dillon stripped of anything that could drive story. Lois's return was mishandled and probably shouldn't be attempted a second time, with yet another recast. For the Holt storyline to succeed, it would heavily rely on strong casting.

There was a time years ago, that I had crafted a Heather/Alan/Monica/Rick/Tracy story that was delicious, but with Alan and Rick both dead it leaves a lot missing! It was GOLD! Such a shame.

Lucas and Bobbie, however, could have a lot of story to mine, and the return of the Jerome heir, Carter, would open up a lot more of Lucas wanting to find out about his biological history, leading him to seek out Tiffany Hill (his biological aunt, and only other remaining blood relative), and we'd learn that Tiffany and Sean's marriage never recovered from the bullet that sent Sean out of Port Charles for surgery. Sean was a crippled shell of his former self, and it eroded their marriage and Tiffany hasn't seen or heard from Sean in years. Sean can later return with an agenda to get revenge on Luke for ruining his life. There was also a question about whether Robert Scorpio was Lucas's actual biological father, so that might need to be reopened.

No offense DavidEvanSmith, but I'm not fond of your ideas and I can't imagine that the 18-49 women demo would be either. I don't think that that the popular characters should be written off or killed because some fans aren't fond of them though I would clap if Spinelli, Olivia and Ethan go away. GH needs is better balance so those popular characters stop being airhogs and useless characters are given purpose.

Also, the triangle should be Nikolas/Robin/Patrick. Patrick has had enough women since arriving in PC. Robin is the one who should be drawn to Nikolas while trying to get better.

Ideally, the way to improve GH is to hire Sri Rao as headwriter for a minimum of 2 years. In that time, he could fix some of the show's problems and improve the storytelling.

It's fine. GH has SUCH a decaying canvas that it's hard to breathe the kind of life into it that I would want to. So many core families have been decimated or ruined and I can only see that as deliberate on Guza's part to leave Sonny's family as the only one strong enough to support story.

As I said earlier, what I posted was my dream scenario, if I wasn't under a mandate to keep Sonny front and center.

Lee, this is treason for you to say that Spinelli is a necessary character. I thought of him as a Holt, but I wouldn't wish him on the Quartermaines, not even on their worst day.

Sonny got a pretty decent open-ended exit from me, when I'd just as quickly love to watch him burn to death tied to a bench on the docks. On-screen. For a full episode. In the last fiction I wrote for GH, I had Sonny fake his own death in an exploding limo. But this exit allows Sonny to either continue searching for Dante outside of Port Charles on-screen, or come back in a few months either not having found him, or following Dante back to Port Charles.

I would be eager to see Helena back and taking an interest in Sam. The fact that Sam is a Cassadine is largely glossed over, and I'd probably establish Robert Scorpio as her father in order to open up a history between Robert and Alexis (who have still never shared scenes) and make Sam Robin's half-sister. Besides, with Anna as Police Commissioner, and Alexis as District Attorney, both of Robert's women would be working side-by-side every day.

I might have to play JJ Holt, Lee.

I would actually tune back into GH... If 1) Guza was no longer the HW and 2)even half of your ideas were implemented. Your s/l's show creativity, an attribute that has been sorely missing for years in General Mobsters. Thanks for sharing. :)

Sonny will marry Claudia and ride off into the sunset.

Ned will return married to Lucy Coe, leading to a big diaster at the Q's Mansion

Monica/Scotty/Bobbie/Mike will be in nice middle aged Quad storyline.

Luke and Robert discover that the aussie kid could belong one of them from a returned Holly.

Carmen Duncan or Victoria Wyndham joins the cast as Edward's sister Victoria Quartermaine and shares a past with Mike.

more to come later!

a good idea is if we all email our problems to GH themselves and see how they react.

It may be treason but it's unfortunately true at the moment. Spinelli's become the writers' makeshift moral center in a twisted way. I don't think he needs to stay there, but I can't imagine him dying.

I remember your Parallel GH fiction where you Sonny faked his death with the car. That was awesome. It also led to Carly finding love with Nikolas and having her daughter, with Sonny becoming what I always thought he should be to Carly: a moment in her life that she learned from and moved on from.

I love that you want to put Jax/Alexis together. The only time I've ever liked Jax was during his faux-marriage to Alexis.

I don't think that GH needs to be overhauled. If the airtime that Carly, Sonny, Jason and Spinelli get was reduced, the show would instantly improve. I'll take a stab it.

Have Sonny play a supporting role to his SORAS Michael and Kristina's stories. Instead of running the mob and diddling Claudia, Sonny will spend time trying to keep his children out of trouble and out of the mob.

Spinelli would return to being Jason's sidekick with minimal airtime and no unbelievable love interests.

Carly could work with Sonny to help their kids causing her marriage to Jax to fall apart. Jax will be drawn to Kate.

Already, the mob airtime is down to 40%, half as usual.

Flesh out the Qs by reviving the younger generation. Let Justus have a long lost teen son who shows up to claim his inheritance and bonds with Edward. He can be Kristina's potential love interest.

Have a mysterious young girl start working at Kelly's. She can turn out to be a SORAS Lila who has run away from her mother, Skye and is seeking revenge on Sonny and Jason for her father's murder. She can start off using Michael to get to Sonny and Jason, but begin to develop feelings for him.

Meanwhile Rick leaves the mob life. He and Alexis bond over Molly's issues and are drawn to each other again.

Build up a Liz/Lucky/Rebecca/Nikolas quad and Lulu/Johnny/Maxie/Matt quad.

Robin recovers from PPD, but as things begin to get back to normal with her and Patrick, Faison kidnaps Emma. Anna, Robert, Robin and Patrick go on adventure to save Emma. After saving Emma, they settle back into their lives at GH and an old flame obsessed with Patrick joins the staff and begins to systematic destroy their lives.

Get rid of Ethan and Olivia.

i actully like Ethan. He could be the next 80s Luke.Introduce a love interest for Rick for him to do something of course.

  • Member

Ethan just showed up so why plan for him to be a major character after 2 minutes. This is exactly what is wrong with GH. How many young males has Guza brought on to rekindle the old Luke and Laura dynamic with Lulu and Mr. X only to kill them off or discard them. If Ethan is going to stay, he needs to slowly integrated onto the show's canvas and not be an instant airhog.

  • Member

Unfortunately, the damage that Guza has wrought is so far gone that the only remedy for GH is to pull a Bobby-in-the-shower and have Jason wake up from his coma, like, 5 years ago. Surrounded by Alan, Monica, Edward, Justus... and AJ.

It strikes me that the writing has gotten very agenda-pushing and all about internecine power struggles between actors.

Mo vs Steve,

JFP writing Claudia-the-child-shooter during the writers' strike, thereby pissing SJB off,

Laura Wright happy with whatever they give her,

Maurice not wanting Sonny with Carly but with Kate,

SJB only extending her contract if Claudia gets story with Sonny,

Frons pushing Kelly, Frons pushing JaSam,

Steve pissed about Frons pushing JaSam, Steve pushing Liaison,

Guza pushing Luke & Tracy at the expense of Luke & Laura,

Guza pushing Jason and Spinelli,

Mo wanting Guza to push Jason & Sonny...

THE [!@#$%^&*]?! Enough of this [!@#$%^&*]. What happened to the audience? Who they like to watch? This whole show is written to satisfy the top tier of "talent" and the HW's inexplicable settling of accounts with certain actors (he must have hated Billy Warlock violently).

Add some racial diversity, whether it's the Wards or Simone Hardy's offspring

Give the female characters some dignity

Re-introduce Lucas Jones and put him in a groundbreaking gay storyline (a young gay mobster - that would be a twist)

YES! Diversity is needed badly on this show. Where is Laniey? She seems to come out during February, Black History Month. This year she didn't come out at all.

Please, let Kate stop pinning away for Claudia's husband! She needs to stop threatening Claudia.

GH will never make Port Charles look like America. Jewish, African-America, Native American, Gay, Asian, etc.....
