Members Roman
Oh, DTF, I hear you. And see where you are coming from. I can't tell anyone NOT to watch a show they get enjoyment out of. I think what I am saying is that, IMO, the legacy characters have suffered more from truly bad writing, bad stories and no leadership at the top at Days. Where as the younger set may get that from time to time from Corday, the vets are told to suck it up, take pay cuts, and perfrom in one bad story after the other. Then they get the blame from Corday whenthe stories don't work out or the ratings don't climb, like when he blamed both Steve & Mary Beth for the poor return not raising ratings. Members rangethatrover
Daytimefan- Days has never been a show that has held my interest for more than a few months (I haven't watched since Eileen Davidson played 300 characters) so I probably am not one to be judging these decisions.. To me, its the treatment of the actors and their characters that really bothers me.. They are going to have Steve and Kayla just disappear? But again, like you said- YOU are watching. People are watching this show. There has to be some level of compelling storytelling here. People are not tuning in for these exits alone. I think this summer DAYS will become a solid #3- taking over GH permanently. That's my prediction. I have said it before- Days has a younger fanbase that seems to be in limbo out there- just waiting to return- some already have- they exist and are willing to watch this show. You see it every holiday season with Days too. AMC and OLTL do NOT have these fans willing to return- not like Days... I find Day's ratings fascinating. I think these fans do not care about Marlena, the history of the show , ect. They want to be entertained- Maybe they have only been watching since 1999 or 2003. Maybe that is my point. I am getting a strong feeling that alot of Days fans have been watching the show for alot less time than the audiences of ALL the other shows. To the Days fans, does the show have ANY sense of community or family with all these cuts? Seems like a lonely town now. At least you still have Bo and Hope, Lexie and Abe. And I always loved Maggie. And I am a HUGE HUGE HUGE Lauren Koslow fan- isn't she barely on anymore? She needs to get written off pronto and return to B&B as Margo, but I want it to turn out that Margo has gone crazy and has been away "resting" in an asylum. Lauren Koslow would play an EXCELLENT psycho. Excellent.
Members DaytimeFan
I think I'm watching DAYS because I find it entertaining. It's not compelling like Y&R or juicy like B&B can be when it's good...but it's entertaining and fun. I am very surprised to be honest, I loathed Higley's last stint as HW but this time is somehow different. I'm also watching because I'm seeing a real change in the show, it's going for super youth, all the damn time. Now, I am one of the biggest anti-ageism people on SON, I stopped watching GH cold turkey because Jackie Zeman got taken off contract and I'll be tuning into AMC only to see Anna Stuart (60 years young Anna Stuart) as Mary Smythe for as long as she's on (which should be FOREVER if you ask me)...but with DAYS, somehow, I don't mind. It's because I feel that DH, DH, MBE and SN all burnt themselves out, they were no longer entertaining...they were just...there. And the thing is, I love Deidre Hall, she's such a ham I couldn't help but be entertained. But even her ouster didn't phase me. It just was what it was. I think I've let go of DAYS ever being DAYS again. I am now just enjoying whatever this show called "Days of our Lives" is...Suzanne Rogers is still there. So are Kristian Alfonso and Peter Reckell. My fave, Lauren Koslow, is also still there (and on quite regularly...she'd be great on B&B, but only if Brad were willing to give her a 5 year ironclad deal and go with her for the long term because I really believe that SHE and she alone can step into Susan Flannery's shoes when that dear lady decides to retire...I think that's what Bill Bell intended all along when he created Margo Lynley)... I still feel the show has a community, if anything it's a tighter community than ever before...DAYS is a show in evolution, the sort of evolution that daytime hasn't ever seen. I'm interested to see how it pans out.
Members rangethatrover
Interesting^^ I am kinda that way about GH I have not watched in 15 years but I started leaving it on after OLTL and despite the mobness of it, and the fact that there appears to be only 12 people on the entire show- there is something watchable about it. But it is in no way, shape, or form the GH I watched as a kid from 86-91, but I watch it like its just a different show.
Members detroitpiston
You know, I wouldn't mind them being fired if they got a well written exit. But no, that's way too much to ask from the hacks(and yes I said hacks!) Dena Higley, Gary Tomlin, and Ken bitch ass Corday. I'm sure Mary Beth will be getting a call from Chris Goutman soon, and if not she's got her pie business to fall back on. And Stephen will probably be back at GH by the end of the year. Members rangethatrover
And let me add- All actors in daytime over 40 better be opening up a damn pastry shop as a back up! "Erika Slezak was just fired as Victoria Buchanan. She will be focusing on her "Erika's Cupcakes" bakeries in the tri state area." "David Canary will be leaving All My Children. He will now dedicate his time to opening CanaryCakes in Brooklyn!"

Members DRW50
I think B&B could do with a pruning, even if they don't have the guts. I would write Nick, Ridge, and Taylor out at least. I don't think it's always wrong to get rid of vets, the question is who do you get rid of. There are some vets on DAYS who outlived story usefulness long ago. If not for Sami I wonder if Roman would still be there. I just don't believe Patch and Kayla had outlived their usefulness as characters. In a sense, Days is "lucky", because I believe most of the fans who watched the show for supercouples probably already gave up on the show. The fans who are watching now are the fans wh oare going to watch no matter what, since Days has a more loyal fan base than some other soaps. Members Jane1978
I think people who are not watching the show have really distorted idea how important these supercouples are. Because, they are not. Truth is, they are never in any leading story like Ari is now, because with an only two episode per week quarantee it´s not possible to tell the story properly. Writing for them is a neverending fight with budget, set restrictions and crazy fanbases who still want their couple see as the romantic lead of the show, not willing to accept them in any other role. Add the fact the couples are married and already went through literally everything so every attempt to give them conflict is automatically deemed as bad wrting and out of character and what you get are extreme overpaid supporting characters who are either lingering on background, or have the same function as much less expensive Maggie, Victor or Caroline. Maybe there exist a writer who would be able to deal with all this and still write them wonderfully, but I doubt it. I mean, Jarlena fans were the only who were exstatic when JER returned, but even he wasn´t able to satisfy them. And Sheffer loved MBE yet his story for Stayla was one of the worst ever. It´s not any way comparable with Y/R or any other vet heavy show because on these show the vets are independent and popular on their own. On DAYS they are only popular as couples. As for DAYS turning into teens only show, there are no teens. Most of the leading characters are played by young and cheap actors, that´s truth, but their stories are not high school special. They are all deemed adult and the stories they have are the same kind Stayla, Jarlena or Bope would get 20 or 30 years ago. The show might be turning into a Melrose Place clone, but certainly not 90210.
Members Shawn
Further and furthur, Days is becoming the Sami and EJ hour featuring Nicole. Its painfully obvious that Dena has no interest in ANYONE else but these three. And her infatuation has made the show unwatchable, even less so than the dreaded Langan years. Dena=Guza Sami=Sonny Plain and simple.
Members Roman
Well, I hope it works for them. But, having those three at the top........ That's like Stevie Wonder steering the Love Boat.
Members bobann10
I think it is sad the way they are treating these people. THEY are the ones who brought back Stephen Nichols and Mary Beth Evans along with Drake. Then they rush through stories that made no sense at all. Why bring all these people back if all they are going to do is let them go. You know there are still alot of older people out there that liked seeing Tony and Anna and Jack and Jennifer along with Steve and Kayla and Marlena and John. I don't think that the writers who are doing the show know what the hell they are doing. All of them had history and if they had written the stories right we would be looking at a number 1 show again. But all they care about now is who can jump into bed with whom the fastest.
