I found Gloria Marsh to be such an interesting character too.... its too bad she is been forgotten by almost everyone in Pine Valley and the fans. I think she was last mentioned when Krystal and Adam's tricked marriage began.... Teresa Blake I thought was a very underrated daytime performer at the time. She was great when her and Adam's daughter died and then when she went right off and poisoned Adam.

Are you sure that you're not thinking of the Laurel Banning recast? Because the first Laurel was a blond and a con artist that was involved with Jackson when Laurel was dealing with her ex-husband Denny and he was killed and Jack helped her get rid of the body, and that's how Jackson ended up adopting Lily... and then Laurel was recast, with redheaded Felicity LaFortune, who fell in with Trevor, and left Jack for him.

I don't remember much about Galen, just that she was blond. So I could be getting mixed up myself. But that's kinda silly if two blond/redhead recasts were both caught between Jack and Trevor in the span of two years.

yes, the first laurel was some leggy blonde that jackson almost mowed down in the middle of the road. Later, recast with Felicity LaFortune. (there's a porn name if ever I heard one)

but Galen was also a recast. She was a curly redhead who was only on for a hot minute (about as long as the first Laurel). I remember she was trying to come on to Trevor by bringing a pizza by his apartment (I remember the apartment being used for several characters before Trevor) I think she met him when he had been shot and was in the hospital. This was when Natalie was involved with Dimitri, but of course Trevor was still pining for Nat.

Ah...AMC in the early nineties...it's a good thing.

Some of my favorite stuff, because of course it led into what I think was the best storyline since I've been watching, "Who Killed Will Cortlandt?" Everyone in town had the motive and the opportunity, which was what made it such an intriguing mystery, SOW cover be damned (I even BOUGHT that issue and paid no heed). The murder mysteries we've had since then have been so lame. Who killed Michael Cambias? Bianca, in an amnesiac fit...blah. Who killed Greg Madden? Oh, let's see, let's make this up as I go along...aha! Tad. He did it. Stupid. Who Killed Will...the seed was planted so many eps back that when it was finally revealed, it made you wanna smack your head like you should had a V8.

Gloria was one of my favorite characters. Other than Adam and Tad, there's really no one else on canvas who was tied to her. I loved how she kept blackmailing Craig by saying, "If you so much as whistle Dixie..." LOL, I can remember getting so sick of that line because they flashed back to it ENDLESSLY. Gloria Marsh...now THERE'S a flawed heroine, successfully redeemed from vixen. Remember her and Alec McIntyre (played by GL's Grant Aleksander?) by the fireplace. HAWT!

Oh I loved me some Gloria. Remember her in that Elvira outfit at Tad's house during Halloween?

One of my favorite scenes from Gloria/Craig/Dixie - I remember it being something like Craig went to the jewelry store to buy Dixie some pearls - and Gloria was there. She was blackmailing him, so he put the pearls around her neck and started choking her....or something like that.

And then Craig trying to steal all the money from Palmer's safe while Dixie was sleeping...

I really missed Tad during all that, but damn Craig Lawson was fine - and I loved the triangle/blackmail aspect.

The funny thing abotu Galen is I don't remember the original AT ALL but I remember when they recast cuz they still had an announcer back then who would say "the role of... is now being played by". But I do remember the Laurel recast because they took the character in such a completely different character.

I also loved Gloria in all her skinniness. Loved the whole story with her abuse by her mother, the flashbacks to her, then even the sorta cliched good twin or bad twin adam/stuart story I thougth with her was great--or when she began to be seduced by Alec. Great stuff. She did the slut/saint thing much better than Krystal.

    • For any other soap, I think I’d agree, but GH, I don’t know

    • Agreed, that there was some strange choices in the episode, especially at the end, but overall, that was some great drama that opens up the potential for so much future storyline. Kat vs. Eva having the most potential, especially over Tomas. I have mixed feelings about Martin/BC though. I thought he did pretty well in scenes with Smitty/MM, but the scenes of him confronting Leslie and of him throwing the books were bad lol she acted circles around him.  It’s similar to what Harding Lemay said about George Reinholt at AW; he could be brilliant in one scene, but then mediocre in the next.
    • I know some of y'all really like Brooke Kerr, and so I've tried to give her a shot, despite her frequent flat line readings and distracted "did I leave the front door unlocked?" facial expressions. But lord, she is so bad at playing a tough-talking badass that I was actually rooting for Brad today to spill the beans to Drew.
    • Googling does tend to ruin it.  For those of us who were teens in the late 1970s and early 1980s, you can't imagine how much fun it was to watch the show in the afternoons.  (It came on right after school.)  There weren't any "spoilers" at the time.  We would always try to anticipate how each crime and each mystery would be resolved, and we were ALWAYS wrong, because the stories are filled with so many weird twists and turns.   The head writer (Henry Slesar) and his dialogue writer (Steve Lehrman) invariably toss genuine clues directly into your face in the most unlikely ways, but then they provide a host of "red herrings" to completely confuse you and send you off on the wrong path.  Once the story reaches its conclusion, all you can think is Why didn't I figure that out weeks ago?  lol
    • Does the vault have the original scene and not the short flashback?
    • I appreciate that you are using AI with the knowledge of it's limitations. Some posters take everything it produces as fact.
    • And of course Mama Ru herself appeared on All My Children.
    • The Saturday 8pm slot usually had the lowest rating of the NBC 4 sitcom lineup for some reason. NBC let Saturday night fizzle, They used 9.30 pm to launch 227 and Amen, both of which moved to earlier in the evening but they  kept Empty Nest following GG for several seasons.  Empty Nest should have moved to 8pm with their strongest new sitcom at 9.30, anticipating that GG would eventually falter. Instead they left them there and stretching the sitcom pool too thinly on other nights. When Grand talk over at 9.30 Thurs maybe Night Court and Wings could have been used on Saturday.
    • @Maxim Great to see your mini-reviews again. There are a number of clips on Youtube of Janice's slow mental breakdown, especially as we go into January 1980. Christine Jones is just superb. She played the hell out of that role. Something which isn't referenced as much later on is how Mitch pushed Janice's doubts and mental instability for his own ends...until suddenly he didn't want to anymore (I guess he caught on with the audience and the show became wary). I don't want to post a bunch of clips, but this one has a very good confrontation between Rachel and Janice.

This has a good scene around 7 minutes in where you can see Janice struggling internally with her need to identify herself so much by the men around her, all of which helps lead to her crackup.
