I have no problem admitting that Ryan and Zach are 2 of the show's most popular characters. I know many off the Internet who see both as the male faces of AMC today. People that I talk to who don't do Internet boards and stuff still love Ryan.

And personally with Pratt doing the story I have no problem with a big rivalry with Zach and Ryan. I think he will do it in a way that it will not dominate. All good rivalries have to start somewhere and I think it could set up some good story for years to come. It could be just as good as many other rivalries like Victor/Jack of Y&R or even the Tad/David.

They already have a lot of history; a shared woman; a child that shares space with both homes; - so setting up a rivalry there could be great.

Again I am very impresses with the broad range of Pratt's previews. They cover so many and seem to still show he wants to make it an ensemble. So I really like that.

And honestly to tell you the truth I have no problem with some other young people being brought in. To make Colby and Pete more interesting they need some more their age to interact with. I will be anxious to see if they bring in some characters that are tied to the current folks or if they will be complete newbies.

All My Children has always been about it's young love stories and they need to get back to that. Have a few newbies all coming on at the same time is no problem for the right writer and I think Pratt can handle it. Remember in 1982 we got the sudden entry of Opal, Jenny, Greg, his mother, Jesse, Angie, Alfred, Liza, Larry & Amanda - all with few ties to anyone at the time even Tad was gone. They all came on pretty close together too. Jesse was the only one with actual family on the show. So if it is done right it can be okay.

Sorry but Pratt's statement is more right than yours.

I will buy into the fact that both are popular but there is no way I will buy into the fact that Zach is more popular than Ryan.

From what I even read on the Internet both have an equal set of haters as they do those that love them. Despite what some people want people to believe Zach is not as loved as they think.

Even with that I agree with Pratt and I don't like either character but I see as I said many in real life who see them as the male faces of All My Children.

Even the soap mags are laying into Ryan so that's not a good sign. I also never seem in counter any hard core Ruan can do no wrong type of fans. Heck Zach could pull out a gun and shoot Erica in the head and it somehow would be someone else's fault. Ryan doesn't have that kind of fanbase as far as i can tell.

Wow that is something to really brag about. I would hate to be the type of fan who would allow a character to do something like that and make excuses for them.

And we wonder why soaps are in the shape that they are in and writers feel like they can get by with the [!@#$%^&*] they put on the screen. They don't have to worry about the stupid [!@#$%^&*] they let characters do because just like you said there are those fans out there who excuse the stupid [!@#$%^&*].

And that is why too this can't be discussed rationally because the Ryan haters and the Zach lovers will always see it their way. I hate both of them and at least I could admit they are popular and see it.

As to the mags laying into them - considering the crap that SOD, SOW and SID have turned into I don't use anything they say whether praise or negative to mean anything. They are just as bad as Frons and Bloom with who they do and don't have hardons for. They praise whatever sells the magazines. So that doesn't mean anything to me.

And please remember that just look at the ratings - the people on the Internet don't represent all soap fans. As I said I know many fans in real life who still love Ryan and Cameron just as much. For every Ryan hater on the Internet I can match it with a Ryan lover. But the people that I know in real life that love Ryan love Zach too. They are both equally as loved.

And personally for me I put more credence and stock into the opinion of a fan who can look at a character and evaluate the things he or she has done. Someone who excuses everything the character does and only sees good has totally lost any objectivity and their opinion becomes moot because it is always praise and in the end means nothing. It is the same as someone who can never see any good. After awhile everybody just overlooks everything they say and don't even take it for what it might be worth.

OH well in the end I look foward to the rivalry. I think it will be a good thing for AMC even if in many ways I think AMC would be better off with Ryan and Zach both gone. I personally wouldn't miss either one of them but I know many fans would.
