Members Wendy
But in this case, it isn't just the right. Trust me. My dad served in the military in in the '60s. He and my mother had some knick-knack of JFK/Jackie. In other words, as Dem as they come, and my father still hasn't - and never will - forgive Jane Fonda for that. He sees it as spitting on our troops. And based on the times, I can't blame his POV.
Members Vee
I've punted most Shep Smith/Fox coverage to the Media/Journalism thread, FYI.
Members dragonflies
What she did was bad, but it's long ago, people need to LET IT GO. It's literally in the past. She's atoned for it
Members DRW50
Fonda herself regrets the extent of what happened, so I think everyone understands how veterans like your father must feel. I'm sure the media will try to make this a big moment, but there's so much going on these days I'm not sure it will work.
Members Vee
She's getting mostly praise today, so there's that. McAleenan is the goon who got heckled offstage at a speech this past week.

Members DRW50
Is he one of the people Trump was trying to push out or was he one of Trump's goons?
Members DramatistDreamer
ICYMI-Trump took several "L"s this week. So, in short...a summary.
Members Khan
The "Public Charge Rule" -- that's the one where people immigrating to this country must prove they're able to afford private health insurance, correct? Three big losses in the courts and more rats crawling from out of the woodwork to eat each other on this Ukraine mess. Now THIS is the kind of winning I like, lol!
Members DramatistDreamer
Not just health insurance but any type of social service or subsistence benefit, including WIC, foodstamps, Medicaid, etc. The private health insurance was an add-on. It was basically stipulating that any immigrant who was in the process of applying for, or in the process of application for a green card could find their status jeopardized if they tried to apply for any type of social service. There were woman who were foregoing WIC for their babies or CHIP (Children's Health Insurance) because they had a husband who was waiting for his green card and they feared it would jeopardize that, even though the child is a U.S. citizen by birth. It's really very cruel. The private health insurance rule that you are talking about, I think was an EO that Trump was trying to do (I'm not sure if it was a part of the Public Charge Rule or a separate EO) was designed to prevent immigrants from even being allowed in unless they could prove that they could pay for their own private health insurance with no government help. They are somewhat connected yet distinctly different from one another.

Members DRW50
I had a lot of thoughts about Elizabeth Warren's joke about gay marriage opponents, how I think she fell into a trap, and how I resent the hell out of the media already trying to push a narrative about this (going as far as to say "black barber shops" will be upset about her joke and also dragging W's old crony Ari Flesicher out for commentary), but instead I'll just post this SNL sketch, which is a bit hacky in many places (it's modern SNL, after all), but took the ridiculous approach that is pretty much the only way you can take her comments. Other points go to "Julian Castro" apologizing for being straight, and for the bizarrely vicious parody of Joe Biden that has popped up repeatedly this season. Members DramatistDreamer
I guess SNL doesn't have a large enough pool of black guys to find one to play Don Lemon. They did find Lin to portray Castro since they had no actor last time and got criticized for not including him in a previous sketch. Sorry but that sketch was a mess. Billy Porter couldn't even rescue it.
Members DRW50
They have three black men in the cast, although I doubt the two who weren't there could have made it work. I enjoyed Lin Manuel Miranda's cameo, but I didn't think he really needed to be in either sketch as Castro has had no real moments in the debates aside from the one where he tried to bait Joe Biden. In the first one some of his supporters said it wasn't right he was not there and Marianne Williamson was, but they only had her on very briefly to completely humiliate her. I guess it's a broader statement asking why SNL has no Latino men in their cast, which I agree with. SNL hasn't known how to write political material since about 1994, outside of some of the Sarah Palin sketches, so I mostly end up just enjoying the few times that aren't complete rock bottom and have some life to them.
Members DramatistDreamer
Some Kamala Harris supporters griped that she wasn't represented in this sketch but given the fact that Harris' performance during the Equality forum was of such a high standard, I guess there was nothing SNL could find to poke fun at. I think it's a lot more problematic that they have fifty types of white guys, yet not enough of black, Latino or Asian players to cover a diverse group of candidates (and voters). SNL is going to struggle because this group of candidates is the most diverse in the history of American presidential politics.
