The dead enders have already started, although they have much less influence than they had in 2020 and 2016 (and there is no viable third-party option for the left unless they want to turn to Stein). A great deal of that fragment of the left are never voting for Harris, they are just waiting for the talking points as to why.

There are a lot of issues I worry about with Shapiro as the choice, but the biggest is that I'm afraid it would indicate a fear-based pick from the heart of DC, some of the same mindset that doomed Hillary in 2016. Trump is going around berating her as hating Jews, there's no shortage of criticism about whether she is supportive enough of Israel and Netanyahu - given Shapiro's comments the pick will look defensive...and there's other baggage surrounding him too, like the claims against his former aide.

I can see either side on Shapiro. I just don't think the downsides are that significant with the general public vs. the very online. He's tough, projects non-crazy left and he locks down PA. I don't think it's about fear. People on Twitter catastrophize about a pretty normal politician because there's always gotta be something.

Meanwhile:

I think Josh Marshall is correct, but what a contrast reading his thoughts in reply to Benjy Sarlin painstakingly working to find and spread a palatable message for Trump's racism and bile. Another reminder of just how eager the Beltway has been to get to tear Harris down on a topic they see as a weakness for her.

I don't think Sarlin is as bad as some, but like many Beltway journos he is thinking of it too much as sportsbro game theory transposed onto politics vs. what it simply is: A vile smear spat out by a flailing candidate who is feeling the heat.

I'm hoping Peter Thiel's influence on JD Vance, including his quarter billion dollar investment in border security for his company Palantir, which is the motivation for all of Trump's racist immigration policies, gets more traction.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2024/07/28/jd-vance-peter-thiel-donors-big-tech-trump-vp/

“WE HAVE A FORMER TECH VC IN THE WHITE HOUSE GREATEST COUNTRY ON EARTH BABY,” Delian Asparouhov, a partner at Thiel’s Founder’s Fund, wrote on X after the announcement of Vance’s nomination.

Although, we all know Trump's been a self-interested racist for years.

    • I don't believe she did. She did sleep with Simon, believing he was a Spaulding.
    • -- If I ever get sick, please don't send me to Garland Memorial. That hospital is a YIKES. -- Soooo much activity around the main nurses' desk. Do they move dead people on a gurney past that desk, too? -- 8 months for Bill to recover from a "small stroke"? Uh....I don't think so. Is anyone researching this stuff? The hospital stuff is not coming off as realistic. -- It's good that Derek and Ashley are being integrated into other stories, but it's a real stretch to say Leslie was "stalking" Ashley. It makes Derek seem dumber than we already think he is. -- Ashley spends a lot of time having small talk while she's at work. -- Chelsea is embarrassing. Period. -- Tomas is supposed to pick up the slack for Bill, but he has time to have worthless conversations with Leslie? OK then. -- Kat is destroying the case against Leslie, but that's clearly the way to keep Leslie on the canvas.
    • 6-3   I almost let my system just delete the episode just like with B&B. I am now questioning if I should have. lol.   I just can't believe that Cole sat there and started to get sick and then only Victoria off and ran off and everyone basically went back to what they were doing at Nikki's birthday party. Cole was too much of a vet character for that. And now story back off-screen.   I did chuckle at how much Victor pay Kyle dust. And now Kyle with this deal and a promise to leave town if he hurts Claire. smh. As if Victor isn't going to make that happen.   It was lovely to see Ashley. And actually (misdressed and all) Abby.    And I liked Claire's dress.
    • Oh. That. I pretend that never happened.

I did think of another possibility. Did India ever sleep with Alan? They kind of toyed with pairing them up, but I'm not sure they ever became lovers.
    • While I do love the chaotic energy that is Kat vs Lesile, it is a bit extra. Sheltered, virginal Kat who plays it safe from her man to her wardrobe understands that Leslie is dangerous, but she's out here showing up everywhere and anywhere that Lesile is to be found and actively going to places where she is alone? I mean Kat doesn't even act a little afraid or intimidated by Leslie. Meanwhile, big Ole Derek out here begging for his and Ashley's life to Jacob.  As for Dani, I didn't see it that way. Dani and Bill were together for 30 years and shared a family. I believe there was real love there at one point. Bill is still an ass and Dani is still crazy, but realizing she may lose him and her daughter's may lose their dad definitely struck a chord.
    • Funny I randomly saw Kami’s lengthy post about the 44th anniversary of the Walton’s finale last week pop up in my news feed on Facebook. A few inaccuracies to her post but overall it was pretty insightful and interesting to read.
    • Well, depending on rewrites...Jennifer Richards potentially slept with Brandon and Alan. It does feel like we're forgetting someone, but then again, maybe I'm confusing that with brothers, which would include a lot more.
    • Maybe it’s me, and the fact that RC isn’t at the helm, but since Cwikly and Ford have taken over I’ve noticed the show doing a lot of things differently directing wise, and since the storyline of John’s demise began, the show has been using different scores, and dare I say better ones than this time last year. It’s interesting and I wonder if the any of it is Noel Maxam’s influence before being promoted.
    • I think Nicole is about to figure out what's going on between Andre and Dani.
    • @Efulton thank you. I don't know how I missed it or didn't recall it.  I'll blame amnesia . Anyway @Errol Could the newer thread be merged to the existing? Thanks in advance.
