This wasn't about progressivism. Bernie's fans cared about two things: free college and legal weed. They never really cared about the disenfranchised. That's why it was so easy for them to turn on women and PoC. You can't pretend you care about racial justice while you heckle John Lewis.

No, you cannot. Which means the way forward is that much more difficult. Elements of Sanders' message are not wrong, going further to the left is not wrong, populism will be necessary, but he is the wrong messenger and so is the aggrieved, smug far left which considered both Hillary and Obama 'sellouts'.

We have to find a way to merge the different factions within the left. And that's hard as hell when nobody wants to admit they did anything wrong - starting with the far left which has subsisted on pride, anger and self-righteousness since the Bush years, and now likely feels more emboldened than they have since 2005.

I'll be interested to see what comes out of the media conference debacle. If there's one thing media cares about more than anything else it's themselves and their egos. When they are spurned they turn on candidates, as they did on Trump with his hotel fiasco (and Hillary, uh, 25 years ago). Now that Trump has hit them again I don't see them being as submissive as they would otherwise. They will become aggrieved for themselves while posturing that it's about the American people. As long as they actually do their job I won't care.

John Oliver's impassioned plea on his last episode causes a spike in donations to various causes.

I can't stop laughing because everyone in that room deserved this for kissing this man's ass and throwing journalism out the window for ratings.

Q: What did you say to Trump in your (congratulatory) call to him?

A: We promised to establish the best bilateral relations ever. I hope that our good relations with the United States, seen under U.S. President Barack Obama, will continue and expand further under Trump. In the call, I also talked with his daughter. I have known her since her infant days.

I love it. Of course I get the context that this is bad and wrong to treat the press this way, but these scumbuckets, at least the ones with actual power, enabled him at every turn and openly bragged about how they didn't care about the consequences because it meant big ratings and big money. They genuinely thought they could control him when it was blatant to anyone who is not in the bubble that he was manipulating them for his own gain. And now they're going to pay the price.

Yep, lol.

First, the media did everything they could to legitimize him for the sake of lousy ratings points.

Next, they attempted (sort of) to contain the beast, denouncing his potential victory as The Worst of All Possible Things, but well past the point of being able to do so effectively (and thanks, in no small part, to the number they did on his rival, taking a woman who already had issues of likeability and compounding them with what will turn out to be, in the end, a big bunch of nothing).

Then, they, along with every other pollster, pundit, and prognosticator out there, got showed up for the clowns we always knew they were when the s.o.b. actually won.

And now, after all that, when they're telling the American public to give this man a chance (but remain on alert) when we know damn well that every inch we give him sets us further down the road toward global disaster, what do they get for their oh-so-obvious attempt at making nice with him in order to gain access to his administration?  Namely, what they've deserved all along: the finger.  His finger.

I hope TrumpCo. freezes the media out entirely from everything they're up to, for as long as they are in the White House.  I really do.  I know I shouldn't say that, since it suggests restricting the freedom of the press.  Nevertheless, I feel it's the least the media deserves for siccing this rabid dog on us.

Exactly.

Frankly, Jeff Zucker should be used to going through life feeling this way.  His career is the textbook definition of "failing upwards."

    • Where do you discover this crazy rumor??
    • Jill Farren Phelps was always very skilled at saying what she meant onscreen in the bluntest way possible, like whenever she wanted fans to support one character vs. the other (hence Megan McTavish groaning about having to write Kale Browne's Sam Rappaport into three days a week at OLTL). Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Historically your intent is always far more obvious than your efforts at coy embroidery anyway. You believe people are dismissing Phelps' accomplishments, and suggest misogyny and fan blinders allow people to too easily pigeonhole and dismiss her skill set. I think we all understand her varied skill set. We're saying it's not enough to make up for her deficiencies as a storyteller and creative. JFP was undoubtedly a skilled technical producer. As a solo storyteller, and de facto HW, she was a repeat and predictable failure. She was not the first or last EP (male or female) to think she was a writer. If you want us to stop taking your behavior personally when you suggest misogyny is at play in board opinions of JFP, perhaps you should consider spending the next 10+ years here not acting like you're the only one who gets it.

Melissa was here today & we went to Michael's Crafts & Ofc Depot. In Michael's there were two beautiful LITTLE girls who kept staring at me, so I gave them a littel wave & very quietly said HI & then did back. I told Melissa they were staring at me. She smiled & said "Purple. A lot of little girls love purple & you forget but you have purple hair. Seeing you their whole imaginations are transformed! Thinking "That lady has purple hair. That means I can have purple hair! They had no clue before seeing you that it was possible." I just laughed & laughed.
    • This opening scene is hilarious...it's like someone wrote out the script for Philip with one hand. And Rick...sniffing a scarf over and over. And in their next scene they are still sniffing the [!@#$%^&*] scarf as the camera stays all over Philip's bare chest and armpits as he keeps working out. Insane stuff.

Bay City better be ready, because I'm back!   At Vicky's apartment she is once again drowning in doubts and jealousy. Deep down she realizes that her dream wedding will be a farce and nothing can change that. Bridget tries to calm her down, but the heroine is determined to suffer. She is not hearing any positive thoughts. She doesn't believe Jamie will marry her. At the Cory Publishing building another farce is in process. Iris, once again pretending to be the angel of love and sisterhood... is telling Mac and Rachel some wonderful news. When Iris has good news, you really need to look out for yourself. That's when things are bad. So what are the news? Miss Devil has put Amanda up for an award! Mac is smiling from ear to ear, and Rachel is suspicious. Maybe that's the effect Iris is looking for. To once again accent on the fact that Rachel doubts and criticizes her daughter. Iris will do anything to destabilize their relationship. She is like a cancer. Back to Vicky! Jamie is at the door. Looking like a sad puppy, he has come with a surprise. No, he is not gonna leave her and her unborn... Not yet. He has bought her earrings. Sad face. How nice. NOT. Victoria, of course... manages to break one of them the moment she touches it. Bad premonition maybe? She was back in hysterics. It's not easy to trap a man into marriage. Then you have to live with someone that didn't want you in the first place.  We were introduced to a new character (to me at least she is new) - Cass's sister - Stacey. She is giving me "hidden skeletons in the closet"-vibes. Love a girl like that. Stunning actress. I like her. The highlight of the episode was the strange and creepy reveal of Evan the escort... hugging someone named Janice's grave. I remember she had an issue with Rachel... and Rachel killed her in self defense I think... It was hinted in prior episodes, but I lack the context and story. I just know that everyone at the Frame house was mad that Rachel killed the bish. But I also got the impression that this Janice was sick in the head. So Evan is now talking to her grave and telling her he is going to ruin Rachel's life basically. Oh, Evan... I liked you better as a sexy gigolo.  Overall - 10/10 - how can I rate it lower when I haven't watched in months!!!

    • Once again, Marlena and Kayla were used very effectively and I couldn’t be happier.  Marlena counseling Johnny and then Chanel was the best part of today. They’re really delving into the human emotion of this storyline and I think that’s a good thing. It feels so much mature than it was before. EJ’s fear about what could happen to Johnny if he doesn’t let go of his anger could lead to some really good storylines in the future.  I also really appreciate the way that Paula/Jeanne are mixing it up and having different characters interact with each other. It was nice to see Shawn and Johnny remember that they’re cousins and share a scene together. I liked the parallel that was drawn between the two of them, and what’s going on with their fathers. I did have mixed feelings about everything with Cat though. I enjoyed Chanel warning her about EJ, mostly because it played into the way that she was written today. But I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Chad/EJ scenes. The two of them discussing Chad’s potential feelings for Cat didn’t really keep my interest.  But above all, I feel that everyone is being used more effectively and that we’re getting a better understanding of everyone as well. And that was exactly what Days needed.
    • It's a wild story for sure, especially the final conclusion (and fireworks offcamera, like Victoria Wyndham tearing into Michael Logan).
