Any Capitol Fans Here?

I'm so glad I could help. Fortunately, I've seen a lot of Capitol recently, so the storylines are fresh in my mind. It's so much fun to have people to discuss Capitol with.

Paula avoided jail time for Clarissa's shooting because she had some brain tumor (common soap opera plot device) that made her emotionally unstable. Of course, Paula was unstable even without the brain tumor. lol Then there was her killing of her psychiatrist, Dr. Parker. She ran the poor guy down with her car, but nobody suspected her because of her "agoraphobia" There was a scene shortly after Mark was shot where the cops were going over Paula's rap sheet, thinking maybe she could have shot Mark in a jealous rage.

Mark was looking for an apartment with Clarissa at one time (sometime in 1984), but I don't know exactly what happened with that. Then, when they were planning their wedding the first time around, before Mark got shot, they had found a house and, had the wedding happened, they would have moved so they could start a new life together in their own home.

CT, have you been able to acquire early episodes with Carolyn Jones as Myrna? I've only seen a handful and I'd love to see more. She had a harder, colder energy than Marj. I'm sure you've seen this already, but in case you haven't:

I never knew that about Paula having a brain tumor! And didn't she accidentally kill her maid too?? What a loon. Julie Adams was good, she would have been fun on another soap. As nutty as Paula was, she would have been another good choice for Pamela Capwell on SB. Her softly devious delivery is similar to that of Shirley Ann Field as Pamela, and of course Marj is Marj. :D

Yes, I did see the Biography on Carolyn Jones. Constance had some wonderful things to say about her. I have the premiere episode in English, but pretty much every other episode I have with Carolyn in it is in Italian. I wish I could have seen more of the early episodes in English, but since people were just starting to get VCRs at the time, those are much harder to find on the trading circuit than the later ones. That's why I'm hoping against hope that someday the series will be released on DVD. It's not too likely, given the relatively small fanbase, but you never know...

Julie Adams did a great job as Paula. Yes, I think Paula had something to do with the maid's death also. Myrna and Paula had an interesting relationship on the show. They were kind of like "frenemies" lol. Their scene in the courtroom in Mark and Paula's divorce hearing, after Myrna had found out about Paula's "novel" about the Cleggs, was hilarious.

One thing that confused me on Capitol was Baxter and Clarissa getting remarried. Weren't they already married, or was their marriage null and void when Baxter was declared legally dead? They had to sign a marriage license, so it wasn't just a renewal of vows. Had Jarrett/Baxter left for Columbe the night before Mark's wedding, and had Mark not been shot and the wedding between him and Clarissa taken place, things could have gotten very interesting if Clarissa had found out (say, from Thomas) that Jarrett was Baxter after she was married to Mark.

Yeah, it would be great if John Conboy started a website like Agnes Nixon and uploaded episodes. Even if he licensed his own dvds I would buy them in a heart beat!

Like you said, most of the Carolyn stuff I've seen has been in Italian (provided by Claudio at his Capitol Megasite when he was still uploading... they were so lucky to get several runs of the show over there, and they even did a reunion with interviews of the cast and the voice over actors who did the Italian dubbing).

In one episode, Myrna mentioned that she and Paula used to babysit together when they were teens, I thought that was a cute piece of history. So I assume Clarissa knew nutty Paula back then too. I'm assuming Baxter was declared legally dead. So, was he disfigured and his face reconstructed, or did they simply not recognize him after all those years?

I would buy them too! Claudio gave me the Italian episodes and, while I can pick out a few words, I would sure like to know what they're saying. Some of those scenes, especially when Paula is all hysterical, are a riot in Italian.

Baxter was disfigured in the crash and he went facial and vocal reconstruction surgeries, so they couldn't recognize his voice either. Ah, the wonders of soap opera plastic surgery! ;)

"Capitol" had a very good-looking cast, both the younger members and the veterans. The veterans were not pushed aside like in some of today's soaps (like, say, GH); they had a good balance of in terms of cast interaction and storylines for characters in all age groups. The veteran actors were respected, as they should be.

    • -- I agree that the vibes are there, but I can also make the case that it's a pale imitation. That Neil Winters Lounge is already a pretty classy place, but the decor make it look tackier. Those Happy Birthday signs are tragic in design and color. The tablecloths look like they've been chosen by Helen Keller. Where is Claire? We hear stupid reasons for her lateness, but we all know it's because this show is too cheap to pay for too many actors in any one episode. It makes NO sense that Victoria has that toast to Nikki without Claire's presence. And where is Cole? Off coughing somewhere? -- The rest of the show was watching people open their black invitations from Alexander Dumas -- for a party on June 13...TWO WEEKS AWAY. So we got through the entire sweeps and still no Dumas? The big sweeps reveal is a party in France in 2 weeks??? Why anyone thinks this is good soap is beyond me.
    • Chandler Massey smirked in EVERY scene in which he appeared. He's not a good actor. He cannot get into character, ever, and plays every scene like he's Chandler running into an old friend on the street. I hate it because actors should take their work seriously and respect it and everyone around them.   It's all so real, to the point where there's no sense trying to separate Drake from his character. I snarked a lot over the years about Drake Hogestyn's acting -- very arch, lots of tics, over-the-top at times -- but I also think he was a great soap star. There was so much humanity in everything he did, and he was always a comforting and stabilizing force on screen. Flashbacks on soaps are almost always special and fun, but does anyone come across as more loving and filled with humanity than John? I don't think so. DAYS has suffered a lot of loss in the past few years. For me, this one hits the hardest.
    • “I’m not a lifelong soap fan, but I sure am now,” Wolf tells PEOPLE about creating the documentary Soaps, which includes deep dives into the biggest and most successful soap operas in the industry, with a strong focus on The Bold and the Beautiful. “It reflects, in a broader way, the cultural significance of soap operas and the incredible task involved in bringing these stories to the screen every day.”
    • I have this for the 4th act on 11/9/88, which per my files, is the first time John and Stefano are in a scene together: Limo (Roman, Diana, Stefano, Milo) Then their second time together is 11/17/88 in the second-to-last act: ON LOCATION: Beach & Cliff (Diana, Roman, Stefano) I'd have to check the 2016 logs, so I don't know who shares scenes as easily in this year, but these are the last 4 episodes that John and Stefano were both in together: 1/8/16, 1/11/16, 3/1/16, 3/2/16.
    • I'm going to respond to you about this show. I've been accused of hating on it for some reason or another. But as a 53-year-old black man I do not hate this show at all. It heavily represents people like me, but I want it to be treated well and not just pushed with half-assedness, which is what I feel has happened on several occasions so far. Bad editing, bad cliffhangers, or no cliffhangers at all, disappearing characters with dropped storylines, etc. I can understand shows no longer wanting certain characters or  storylines, but why the "Judy Winslow" effect? I'm really finding it weird that Jacob doesn't mention his father or his detective partner. Jacob was smack dab in the middle of them both.
    • I love many things about BTG very much. For me, it's greatest strength is how the family relationships are so beautifully written. The deep love between family members while acknowledging each other's flaws--it's SO GOOD.  The best of the best is the two sister relationships: loving but very different sisters Dani and Nicole and adversarial sisters Kat and Eva. These two relationships can anchor the show for many years to come, in my opinion. (The one caveat is that the young and very talented Colby and Ambyr may want to leave the show sooner rather than later, but that's to be expected). My biggest problem with this show is this: Where are the romantic love stories? Where are the star-crossed lovers? Almost every character on this show is married, or in a committed relationship, or just fooling around. Right now the only potential for this are in the Ashley/Andre/Derek and Kat/Tomas/Eva situations. Like a lot of people, I feel the sooner they ditch Ashley and Derek, the better. I hate picking on actors, but the characters are so blah and bland it's like they're a parody of soap characters. I like Andre, and there's some indication they might have him become more serious about Dani, but I don't see that becoming a big love story. I could be wrong. Kat and Eva fighting over a man would be amazing. Over Tomas? No.  I've noticed on social media some people are starting to ship Kat and Jacob. I think that shows how much viewers long for a messy love story. There is much I enjoy about BTG and I have no intention of bailing on it. But over all my many years of watching soap operas, the thing that always got me the most excited about them was the question: "When are those two finally going to get together?"

Some initial thoughts.   1) a Who's who back in the day with an assortment of well known performers. 2) Surprised Debra Messing would agree to play a conservative character 3) Not surprised a network didn't pick this up because showing a conservative that is human/likable is a no no in Hollywood LOL
    • Yes from when they went on Let’s Make a Deal too. Pam stole Forrester designs for Jackie M. Of course a month later we saw Nick, Lesley, Owen, and Bridget all exit in the same episode.
