Alec Baldwin on today's podcast, should be interesting!

Lord knows Alec Baldwin's not an easy actor to love. Nevertheless, I must commend him for remaining willing to talk about his soap past - both on KL, and on TD as well. Given how successful he became after leaving KL, he could place as much distance between himself and those shows as he wants. Yet, he never does, even going as far as having Susan Lucci on one of his podcasts and talking about their separate experiences working with directors Henry Kaplan and Robert Scinto.

Lord, what a messy human AB is. I definitely have thoughts on the whole Rust shooting but don’t want to derail the thread 😆

I’m aiming to listen to today’s podcast soon and will share observations.

Banged out the podcast on the stairmaster 😅  it was a fun listen. The ladies’ deep affection for AB warmed me up a bit to him, as I do have my reservations.

He has a good memory. Some tidbits:

  • His audition was with Lisa Hartman and he was late bc his parking pass was for the furthest end of the lot

  • Hugh Gagnier was a KL cinematographer, and Holly was Hugh’s daughter. Holly was on both Days and OLTL, and AB dated her for 5 years. Donna says she still chats with Holly via Instagram posts.

  • He had to choose between a role on KL or the 1984 tv miniseries “Fatal Vision” (that part later went to Gary Cole). He chose KL when he learned Julie Harris would be his mom

  • When he joined in ’84, the cast was filming on location in Oregon. He remembered the name of the hotel they all stayed at - the Salishan Coastal Lodge in Gleneden Beach, OR. He would drive Julie to and from dinner.

  • Some sage wisdom from Julie to AB “don’t ever get a publicist. Let the work speak for itself” “I don’t ever wish for something to end, bc then I’d be wishing for life to end” “my most treasured memory in my entertainment career is that I was one of only two people who kissed James Dean on-screen”

  • Larry Elikann the KL director would stop a scene mid-filming to remove props he didn’t like - which is a no-no from a continuity perspective. But Larry would just say “they’ll never notice” they being the audience

  • He met Ava Gardner and she greeted him “how are you baby” while enjoying a cigarette

  • No one on the podcast could remember poor Doug Sheehan’s name

  • AB went to see Michele in 2001 on Broadway when she was on The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife (I saw that too! :)

  • The ladies gently teased him on the topic of him having 7 children, which I appreciated

  • He dragged one of his sons, Romeo, on camera. I only heard the audio but it sounded cringe. Leave the kid alone!

  • He was in a movie Malice and his girlfriend was played by Deborah Mullawney Farentinto (Capitol), who was the 2nd wife of Michele’s ex, James Farentino. There was a scene where AB and Deborah were supposed to be having sex, and the director told them they weren’t “going for it hard enough”. After they were done filming, AB and Deborah felt like they had basically had real sex. The era before intimacy coordinators!

• The ladies said they will have Lisa Hartman on soon, but Lisa is waiting until the release of her and Clint Black’s upcoming memoir, so she can promote it.

Thank you for the recap.

Donna: "Our dear, sweet, wonderful Joan is not feeling 100%."

Translation: She's still healing from her latest, um, procedure?

I heart Michele Lee all the way to the stars and back, but would she PLEASE get some dentures that FIT?

Three items from "Survival of the Fittest:"

  1. Val continues the trend of cul-de-sac ladies having watched SNL when she starts an impression of Billy Crystal's Fernando that's interrupted by a tense Ben.

  2. Val and Jill's first significant scene together is when Val and Karen find out about Jill and Gary's engagement.

  3. The show tries to have it both ways with Jean, with her reminding Val that if it's not her, it would be someone else from her organization menacing the Gibsons and Lilimae, and later, Jean appearing to be upset when she assumes Ben did go through with killing Greg. I wish I didn't already know we'll be denied the catharsis of a 100% defeated conclusion that most of KL's outright baddies got. Latham & Lechowick thought they were so clever ... why didn't they have Jean's leopard print headscarf take her out like Isadora Duncan?

I just hate that whole storyline from beginning to end. All of a sudden, Ben Gibson has a super-spy past; and the reason why he is being pressured to kill Greg Sumner - and not, say, Mack Mackenzie, who has an actual, contentious past with the man - is because...?

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times: I'll go wherever you want me to go with your characters, but you gotta take the steps to GET me there.

This, 100% this. It's one reason why I had to take a break from watching Season Eight. I just got sick of watching Ben get destroyed as a character for no good reason.

Jean Hackney was awful and that lead to Ben's exit story which sucked.

I liked Ben/Val together. Val's love for Ben was that of a grown woman moving on with her life and Ben's love for Val made him willingly decide to raise another man's children as his own.
