If I remember correctly, didn't Nikki's alcoholism come about after she became addicted to her pain pills/morphine after a ridding accident? Not only has she been tempted to pick up the booze for weeks, David gave her a real parting gift by re-introducing her to morphine. I'd think of it as lazy writing not to have her fall of the wagon. I just hope it is played all out this time with no instant recovery.

I totally 100% agree with everything in your post.

I love that this thread is on page 13. It's been a while since the message boards have been this active about the show--and positive.

I don't want to see Nikki fall of the wagon, but if she does it would totally makes sense storywise. The same thing happpened with Neil after Dru died but they did not follow through with his drinking. I am not sure what they are going to do with Nikki but she is sure taking many hits lately.

Some character traits should always remain, people can change, but they also retain their core traits. At her core, Phyllis is a disturbed soul who has always felt like the outsider who feels like the world owes her something, so she fights to get it.

And Phyllis has been a very stagnant character over the past two years or so, IMO...

Phyllis is a classic Bill Bell anti-heroine, it's too bad that current regimes insist on painting her as a real heroine, when she is not.

Nick and Phyllis aren't one another's true loves. Phyllis has always been a screw up, and sooner or later, she's going to screw up this boring mess of a relationship she has with Nick. And Nick hass no idea who the real Phyllis is, he hasn't even begun to see who this woman really is.

I see it, ever since her and Nick became a legitimate couple, Phyllis has been nothing but the giggly cheerleader who smiles and says "oh, OK!" Nick and Phyllis bring one another down, and they're two mismatched characters. Phyllis needs a REAL MAN to interact with, Nick is and will always be a trust fund baby who is a wuss that lacks anything resembling assertiveness. The REAL Phyllis is too strong, independent, fiery, and unstable for the laid back frat boy Nick is/ has become.

Personally, Josh Marrow never did anything for me and has yet to. Victoria was ALWAYS the more interesting Newman child, Heather Tom's Victoria that is...

I guess sleeping with a grieving father, blackmailing people, being a home-wrecker, liar, cheater, and exhibiting psychotic behavior gives Phyllis a lot of room to pass judgement on other people...

Phyllis is not an outsider who has to fight to get what she wants because she already has it. Now of course the writers could take a plot driven approach and give Phyllis a reason to plot and scheme like she did in the past but of course I'd rather they take the character driven approach. If and when something threatens her marriage to Nick the "fighter" will come back out of her.

Her plotting against Amber definitley worked as well so she's still not above scheming to get what she wants. Of course her schemes are nothing like they were in the past but they didnt' have to be and she still got the result she wanted, Daniel and Amber broken up.

I doubt we've seen the last of the Amber/Phyllis fued. I think it could be an interesting. And if you add the spoilerd

Sharon/Phyllis row coming up

, Michelle could have some good material. Plus, it could add tension to Phick.

We're never going to get any tension for Phick, just like we're never gonna get any for Lickey (despite Tracey E. Bregman BEGGING for it). I think there's an agenda with TPTB that certain couples always have to be happy, and I don't get it or think it's helping the show any.

I personally want Nick and Phyllis over with, I see nothing in them that makes them remotely entertaining and whatever chemistry they had during the affair has fizzled big time. The day they're broken up and given new partners is the day I can't wait for. And no, that doesn't mean Nick goes back with Sharon and Phyllis goes back with Jack. Some of us actually can't stand all 4 of those characters...

I feel certain that Nick and Phyllis will have some angst soon. JMO. Lauren and Michael have had nothing for a couple of years. In that time, Phick has had an ice storm birth, Dru going off a ledge, blackmailing, amnesia and prison. For all of these reasons alone they need to be blackburned. LML wrote for them quite a bit. I want more of Michael and Lauren. I hope the new storyline for Michael brings something really good for them. And too many people hate Nick and Phyllis for them not to get story with tension.

On a side note, my one beef with last weeks shows was Amber. I found that while everyone was very emotional over Sabrina dying, it was out of place to have Amber crying and blubbering over her failed relationship with Daniel. Couldn't that have waited for another episode? I laughed during all her scenes because her pain and suffering was nothing compared to the grief of losing to death, a friend/wife/business associate. Pretty much the rest of the episode(s) I spent crying. Not because I was attached to Sabrina, but the loss of any decent young adult is a sad thing.

It is clear they have put Phyllis on a path to self-destruction...and in a conflict with Amber. (The last person who crossed Amber got dumped in a frozen pit and almost died). So, I fully expect bad things with Nick and Phyllis. My personal expectation, with Daniel "broken up", is that Amber will seduce Nick. I can't wait.

As for Michael and Lauren...expect NOTHING in that relationship (except Bregman as support) until the actress agrees to sign a contract. As long as she is recurring, "Likey" will be as they are. AND I APPROVE of that. One stable couple is NEEDED.

Lastly, I love (individually) each member of the Quad. I love Phick. I am warming to Shack. There are MANY people like me (maybe not at SON). So, if they grant your wish to break up the Quad, they'll lose people like me. That is a difficult line to straddle. So, I doubt you'll ever be fully satisfied :-).

I think the long-term "end game" IS Nick and Sharon, much as I prefer Phick.

Ugh...honoring a character's history, when the actress herself has said the character never properly went through recovery is LAZY storytelling?

This isn't like DID on OLTL. This is a character who is losing almost everything she wanted, who is being revealed as very very very weak...who has been battling her temptations for weeks....this is (in my view) appropriate and character driven story.

Yes. Why? Because it is so obvious, so easy to write. Instead of inventing something new, we're going to see the same story for a character, v2.0.

I'd rather skip it and focus on something else.

Phyllis being so judgemental was sooooo weird. And the Adrian/Jack confrontation would have been cool, had EP been able to stand his ground against PB. Unfortunately, it was so uneven, Adrian came off as a spoiled child, complaining about not getting his lollipop. Nikki's dream was ultra freaky, i.e. highly enjoyable, soapy, and fantastic! I almost got a heartattack when I realized that Lauren would finally talk about a different storyline other than Gloria's! Who would have thought that's possible? By the way, TEB's reaction to the news of Sabrina's baby was just amazing. In those few seconds, she just made me want to see her in a front-burner story more than ever! And how lovely that they're using this death to start new stories, like Michael realizing he has to find his father (I'd have him fall in love and terrorize Lauren just to give TEB something to do ) and Victor blaming Nikki... (Braeden was so heartbreaking). Nikki couldn't have walked into the room in a worse moment. That scene, the writing, the blocking, the music, the reactions, was absolutely old school Y&R, and a total classic. What a way to end the week!

I'm rather late for the tea party but I just managed to watch Friday's cliffhanger...

Victor sitting next to his dead wife, Nikki entering room, him turning around, glaring with the greatest anger and condescendence at her... Cue: soap staring; extra long, classic score.

Y&R is back! I love it! :)

As she always is.

True. I guess though that it felt more like listening to Christine being judgemental than Phyllis... *yikes*
