DAYS and Y&R aren't exactly my all-time favorite shows, but they're certainly my all-time favorite themes. Why? Because, they're still used today. Yes, there was that unfortunate "porn variation" that Y&R employed for awhile back in the '90's, but (thank God) it's dead and buried.

Other faves:

"As the World Turns On and On" (ATWT)

"My Guiding Light" (GL) - the original variation, not the synthesized "remakes" that came after

The original (1970-90) theme for AMC

Jack Urbont's theme for OLTL

The Cortner/Barranco theme for EDGE OF NIGHT

These are my favorites, in no particular order.

- OLTL: The Dave Grusin/Peabo Bryson theme!!!

- AMC: The last version of David Benoit's theme (in the AMC white opening video detroitpiston posted)

- ATWT: 80's theme (World Turns On and On), especially the first version

- GL: My Guiding Light (all versions)

- GL: Hold On To Love (1st version)

- OLTL: Jack Urbont's theme

My favorite will always be GL's "Hold On to Love." In particular, I LOVE the solo piano version they used at times to score important scenes.

Case in point:

I've never watched Y&R, but I'd vote for their theme song. I liked Faces of the Heart & Jack Urbont's themes on GH and some of OLTL's themes over the years, but Y&R's theme is so simple and so elegant... every TV show should have that powerful an opening

I'm a nerd when it comes to soap opera theme music, so I won't go in depth with my favorites. Y&R's theme, to me, is soap opera. All you need to hear is those opening notes and you know it's Y&R. I also have a soft spot for B&B's original, trashy version of its theme song.

I was thinking about it and I love that B&B theme with the saxophone it sounds so sexy.

That music... those scenes... oh my God, do I miss the real GL right now...

An extended version, though the scene is repeated twice in this clip for whatever reason.

I think they stopped using the Hold On To Love background theme after JFP left, correct me if I'm wrong, Dan.

AMC's 2002 opening. One of the few great things Jean Dadario Burke did, creating a new modern version of the early-mid 90s opening theme.

Note: There were two musical scores for this opening. I loved the first one (shown here first), especially the music around the time Phoebe/Myrtle and Adam are shown. However, after a couple of months the music changed (damn you Burke!) and this version was never used again. This one just has alot more punch to it.

The second (weaker IMO) version:
