Interesting point for sure. I can't see him even remotely wanting to raise a baby with Chloe without a paternity test. Phyllis actually had verified sex with Danny. Not sure about Sammi. I buy your point that if Cane had a baby with Chloe he would most certainly have it. And maybe you're right - perhaps a paternity switch and could work cause Chloe is interesting enough. But i just think it would be so unoriginal and "been there, done that". You know? I expect more from Y&R. I mean I'm still getting over Spermgate! LOL!

No, I don't think Phyllis and Danny had sex pre-marriage. She got him drunk, and told him they'd had sex. But really, she used another man's seed. I guess she got pregnant the real way.

Then, years later, when Danny wanted a paternity test, she called over the old beau, drugged him, and TOOK HIS BLOOD WHILE HE WAS SLEEPING. Then, she swapped it for Danny's (or at least she tried) so that Danny would turn up as the father. If my recollection is right, it was YEARS before Danny asked for this test.

ETA: A pretty reliable site backs me up:

Spermgate? Why? Did Victor have a vasectomy or something? Or even more than one? Can't be...his wife is pregnant and he didn't even blink...neither did anyone else in town.

You must be imagining the several years of Spermgate, or the Victor's dungeon story (created because Julia was pregnant, and Victor didn't think it could be his, because he'd been snipped). Nah, the dungeon never happened either. Young Paul never "held watch" over Michael Scott, who was in the dungeon because Victor felt he was infertile due to his first vasectomy. Nahhhhhh.

Thanks for the correction! That said, it just makes my point even clearer - why do the same s/l over again with different characters? I remember that s/l (maybe not ALL the details, hehe!) but it was pretty good and drove story for years. AND Cricket and Danny were a great couple at the time. Lane hasn't become the supercouple that the show designed them to be.

Now MY idea would be this: Let Chloe play the "it's your baby, Cane" card for a few months and then let the "booty-call" be revealed to be someone we already know on the canvas - Brad? or someone shocking like Kevin? Meanwhile, Lily shows her true Dru colors and hashes it out with Chloe and she falls and loses the baby and blames Lily. Cane is devasted and blames Lily. All the while Chloe goes to deperate measures to keep her mystery man secret. Devon though, catches on to it and busts Chloe and bam - you got a story! Not the most original thing ever, but something different enough than your standard paternity test swtch which has been done to death!

Don't you just love soaps Mark?! :)

This post is just cute! I love your attitude. It is interesting how cynical even the most hopeful of us become. I actually didn't mean to rain on your parade. When I watch it tonight, I'm going to be o'erbrimming with enthusiasm, I am sure.

Even though the show is improving, there's conflict, and things are actually heading someplace. But, WHERE IS THE CAMP!?!?

I think Latham and then Maria tried to ground the show a little too much and make it a little too realistic in some respects. However, Y&R has always been one of those soaps that masterfully balanced hard-hitting real life stories, with campy villains, psychos, and bitches!

I'd like to see some of the latter soon, and I'm sure the Hogan/Rauch influence will be able to give it to us.

With Y&R, we'll have to be very careful when to jump with joy... the show is getting better (slowly) but at least it's something. I just don't want to start talking about how much I enjoy watching it until I'm sure the quality is back full-time.

    • I would REALLY like to know why Rauch and Harding Lemay hated Jacqueline Courtney so much. The hate for her almost shimmered off of Lemay's book. He constantly ripped her acting. I never understood it. Was she the greatest actress ever? No, but she very good and had that certain something that made audiences like her. Lemay adored her replacement on AW. I forget her name--because she was extremely forgettable! There's got to be some story behind that story.
    • The "LiRic" fans are going to eat them up. (and somehow that is her most viable current relationship)
    • I'm not familiar with Irna's timeline of comings/goings, but I got the impression Neil Wade was written off circa 1967-1968.  (And I might be jumping to conclusions, but I also felt maybe the character was jettisoned because Rosemary Prinz was leaving?)   I know who Doug Cassen is, I think.  Wasn't he one of Claire Lowell's husbands?  They didn't mention Neil was his son.  But clearly there was a LOT unmentioned in the short synopsis that I was reading.
    • That makes sense. Rauch did like to play games, as shown with some of the antics with the Labines. We should make some screencaps.  I can imagine her not being thrilled by much of anything in 1996.
    • I believe he also turned out to be Doug Cassen's son. I could be wrong about that. Yeah, he doesn't get talked about much in the history books.
    • Cady McClain said the same thing with her hairdos - she switched it up so much because she was either unhappy or bored.  Kim must have been unhappy in 1996 because she has so many different short styles, it's wild (haha).
    • She definitely was trying new things with her hair and makeup in the 1986 scenes I saw so it tracks. Rauch wouldn't have been there, but it just strikes me as a conversation Rauch would have had with her with when he was at GL. Rauch loved to badmouth JC. So she put it in the book as if she had been told at the time. It's like how she has Michelle Forbes on GL years before she actually arrives or Ellen Wheeler firing people who had been fired yrs. before by Rauch or Conboy.
    •   From what actors have said, Y&R has been very busy taping the upcoming storyline, and that was up to and including the week of Diamont's party, and after.
    • Well, a good number of sets were up when I was there, but there was a limited number of people around. Even Y&R seemed dead, but maybe everyone was out for lunch at the time? I remember driving from the parking lot and preparing to enter the roadway when I saw Michelle Stafford and Christian LeBlanc returning from what I think was their lunch break. Not sure where they went or were coming from.
