Time for yet another big disaster plot, and the cliches are out in force.

"will go down in Emmerdale history"

"one of the biggest-ever stunts"

"The outcome is going to affect so many in the village as well. The aftermath is going to cause huge ripples"

My reaction:

And yet again there won't be any Dingle fatalities..... We already know Suzy's dead, and one of Liam, Amy and Leyla will be next.

What will it take for a Dingle to die?? At this rate soon there will be only Dingles and Dingle relatives left on the show.

Emmerdale's social team were very smart to upload so much of this on Youtube as otherwise I wouldn't be watching any of it. I haven't really been able to muster up interest in anything on most of the soaps lately, but I felt like I owed Leyla this, somehow.

Was the scene of Mandy's drink splashing in her face intended to be so funny? It was like something from that old Madonna "Music" video.

Watching the video with the limo crash aftermath and the acting was overall better than the material deserves, although Michelle Hardwick, veered between passable and extremely hammy. I didn't believe anything she was feeling.

Amy is stronger than me because if I had Tracy yammering in my ear that much, I don't think I could make it.

There was a bit too much going on at various points where Liam and Amy were both near-death and Kerry and Leyla were also near-death.

The whole Liam/Chas star-crossed aspect did work for me. Liam looked very dashing when he was near-death. He would be perfect in one of those Victorian-era pieces, dying of consumption. I'm surprised Liam is still here, but when the village gets some good community dick, I guess they're not going to let it go without a fight.

I actually liked the idea of the stunt. I wish they'd done it in the years when they actually had a budget.

It's unbelievably miserable to see Leyla realizing that she is going to die and watching everyone around her get saved. She doesn't get any last moment. Everyone else was worrying about somebody while she was just alone and lost, dying before our eyes. They couldn't even give her a moment with Jacob, because in death she had to be a plot device for the angst of others. Nothing was about her. It's not fair.

Then we see Kerry...dragging her corpse, and way too much of Kerry crawling. Harry Hill would have been in ecstasy.

This whole situation is very grim already, but I think there would have been more dramatic power if Kerry had died too. Have a shot of everyone who had escaped looking on numb as the limo with Leyla, Kerry and Suzy goes under.

What annoyed me most in all this is the cliches, moments we've seen so many times they take me right out of the moment. Everything with Vanessa's reaction to Suzy. And Jacob's to Leyla. This is a relationship I always wanted to see properly developed but it never really happened. So any time he calls her "mum" I don't think that ever felt genuine. When they had him doing the chest compressions, all I could think was why do we always need to see this on television? When was the last time you reacted to it? Every single moment was a cliche, and not a very well-executed one, with the exception of the moment where the lady doctor hugged Jacob. She's a good actress.

I loved Leyla from the first time we saw her, hitting on Pollard in his old factory. I stopped watching Emmerdale on a regular basis years ago and even by that point it was clear the show was done with the character. I never really stopped caring about Leyla, even if the show did. I'll always think of what should have been.

If I think too much of how special the old Pollard/Metcalfe family unit was and what was done to it, I just get deeply sad.

Farewell, Leyla. We won't forget you, or how much better you deserved.

^^

You have a much better way with words than I could ever have. I'll just say that (once again) their stunt fell flat for me. They keep doing them in a desperate attempt to recapture the genie in the bottle which was the plane crash. But that worked because it was the first and it was an unexpected event for Emmerdale back then. Nowadays these stunts come regularly and that has considerably lessened their impact.

And don't think I didn't notice that none of the casualties was named Dingle....

They did confirm that Nate was dead, if that counts...still, the show could cull so many.

What I notice most in these clips is how bleak the show is. I am not sure if there are any laughs to be found. I guess Mandy is meant to be the comic relief, but that's not very much.

Mandy is the cringiest character ever and I Never understood her staying power. I mean I do know why but she Never really did it for me.

the only characters that at least brought some Humor were Paddy and Marlon. But it’s Not helpful When even your Funny characters get one depressive Story after another

Emmerdale actress Katie Hill has revealed that there's an exciting year ahead of her character Sarah Sugden.

Katie became the fifth actress to take over the role of Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb) and Andy Sugden's (Kelvin Fletcher) daughter Sarah in the ITV1 soap back in 2017, a role she has portrayed ever since.

Speaking about her favourite storyline over the past eight years, Katie explained: "I can't think of a specific one but you know just stepping into her Dingle side.

and instead of using the sugden Side it’s all about the Dingles lol why are they so popular ?

    • The way this show handled Nikolas' shooting Hayden, Austin's murder, the long slow delay to getting rid of Cyrus, etc. we're likely to have it revealed in a year when Nina is 3 weeks away from leaving and has had minimal airtime.
    • Interesting. I love my Roku.  No, I don't know. Who? I mean Disney def does. I would think a number of parties have stocks.
    • Is he still spamming demands that they hire the campy chick from The Haves and Have Nots? Or whichever show it was. I don't think it's an either/or. I happen to think Dana, Dani, Eva, Nicole, Kat, etc. are all great. Certain folks aren't going to be some posters' favorites and that's fair enough. But I would argue most of those characters above (and several others) have caught on with a lot of the online audience. I've even warmed up to Martin!
    • We get it, you don't like this show or the actors. You've said that over and over again, Mr. Vanguard America/VDARE.
    • Lol at the WSB hot guy asking Joss if she was okay with betraying her friends.  Of course she is! Chase coming in hot at Dante was a choice. It's also quite hypocritical since Chase is lying to him about Dante's own child and making Lulu the bad guy.  Talk to the grown woman yourself Chase.  Don't make Dante do it. Lulu and Laura had some great scenes. The Rocco/Danny party is obvious an anvil for something happening and probably the Gio secret coming out. The Willow/Drew/Nina scenes were kind of anti-climatic?  I get why Nina chose this path as the way to get rid of Drew, but will anyone ever find out Drew was sleeping with Nina?
    • I was reading the NYT article on Roku's purchase of FrndlyTV. As anyone who has read my posting knows, I think re-airing old soaps is an imprudent idea. However, I will admit that if large media companies are looking for more streaming content.  And, if advances in AI continue to make the digitization process faster and cheaper.  Those of you who want the owners of the IP to release anything in their vaults may have reason to be hopeful.  Because the makers of TV's want to get into streaming in order to encourage young people to get back in the habit of updating their TV devices every few years.  And, Roku's plan is market exclusive content, that you have to buy a Roku device to view.  And you-know-who has a ton of content to sell.
    • This was  the messiest hour of television I’ve seen since Kenya Moore asked “who is this hoe?”
    • details of the current Health Secretary RFK Jr's insane beliefs - Doesn't believe that germs cause illness; suggests HIV doesn't cause AIDS; suggests antidepressants are behind mass shootings; believes that vaccines are harmful; suggests chemicals in water are changing children's gender identities... and is quick to promote supplements to prevent and treat diseases, such as recently recommending vitamin A for measles and falsely claiming children who die from the viral infection are malnourished. https://arstechnica.com/health/2025/04/rfk-jr-s-anti-vaccine-stance-is-rooted-in-a-disbelief-in-germ-theory/

I missed the reference at the time, but those DAYS writers really like jokey character names.
