Emmerdale just has the best written comedy/one liners of any soap. So hysterical and/or perfectly accurate, like Victoria`s line about Andy wanting to propose to Katie;

Andy: I know you worry about me.

Victoria: I worry about the whole community. When you two get together, shotguns go off! laugh.png

This whole Bernice, Andy/Katie storyline has been quite fascinating to watch from the beginning. The show is really delving into Andy and Bernice again, who are taking a huge weight off of Dingle mania.

I know the show would never do it, but I would pay money to see an actual Adam/Aaron storyline this time around. The material would write itself.

Adam knowing Aaron still has feelings for him, and using this to his advantage. And he feels so ashamed, on some level, because when Aaron fell in love with him, he was beautiful and pure and had every bright hope of the future, and now he's dead-end trash. Aaron knows Adam is using him, but it's not that simple, because Adam does start to fall in love with him. Yet Aaron can't see this, because he just assumes he's being manipulated and the most he can expect is to get his rocks off, and he's not going to let Adam hurt him by openly declaring his love.

It would be such a toxic relationship yet also have the potential for something good or positive down the line. And it would be such a power struggle.

I don't think either actor is all that great but they've always had terrific chemistry, and while I know Danny Miller likely won't play that material, it's obvious that their chemistry is romantic/sexual, not just "mates."

During Aaron's first run, the show did a poor job in his relationships with men (likely exacerbated by Danny Miller's supposed issues), but he always had more romantic chemistry with Adam than he did with other guys.

It's been two years and Adam has changed a lot, so I did wonder, but when I watched some of their scenes, it's still there. And Adam of any characters is screaming for one of those Charity Tate ambiguous-sexuality-for-morally-ambiguous-reasons storylines.

I assume they will either keep Aaron celibate or pair him with poor Finn, but I think my idea would have more potential.

Oh well. I guess I can just stick to reading the porny fic some fans write of them.

What were Danny Miller's problems might I ask? Was he having issues with playing a gay character? Or was it something personal?

Oh God I forgot that Charity is bisexual. Wasn't she messing with Zoe Tate while married to his brother? That's when I began watching b/c I remember the Kings debuting shortly afterwards and taking over Home Farm.

Damn. I miss the Kings. sad.png Tom, Matthew, Max, Carl, and my bitchy Sadie. wub.png Emmerdale was the bomb then!

Thanks. Well that's a relief. I am sick of soaps thinking if two characters are gay then it's time for them to be a couple.

The rumor was that Miller wasn't comfortable playing a gay character. It also seemed to show in his performances.

Charity had sex with Zoe while she was with Chris. Zoe was opposed to her relationship with Chris so there was a hint of manipulation in their relationship, but she did genuinely love Zoe.

When Charity was on trial for Chris' murder (Chris had committed suicide as he knew he had a terminal illness and he felt he'd lost Charity to Cain - he framed Charity for his "murder") she tried to manipulate Zoe romantically. Zoe realized it and blasted her during her testimony.

After Charity was cleared, she and Zoe did make amends not long before Charity left town.

I think Adam is the perfect type of character for this fluid, is-it-real-or-a-con-it's-real-whether-he-says-or-not type of sexuality.

Oh wow. I didn't know that about Danny Miller.

Seriously though, I am growing tired of straight, young male actors bitching about playing gay. It's a freaking role. Gays have had to play straight for nearly a century and they still don't complain.

This is why I feel that soaps should just hire decent gay actors to play the material. That's why I commend Hollyoaks. They actually had gay actors playing gay characters [i.e. Ste & Doug].

I don't know if he's ever said anything officially - it may just be rumors.

Emmerdale's never done that good of a job writing for gay men.

I do wonder what they will do with Aaron, if Miller had any demands or requests, or if he just wanted the return to get some money for however much time he's there.

Sadly even with gay actors, most gay stories on soaps are offensive and poorly written (every gay story HO has ever given Ste has been hideous, utterly hideous - they destroyed the character).

Bright Eyes, what do you think of Adam/Aaron?

I can't find it, but in a recent interview Miller and Thomas both admitted they wanted to go down the Aaron/Adam road and Kate Oates interjected that it could potentially happen. It seemed to be a bit of a joke on her part, but with the recent Edna/Aaron scenes, where it was made pretty official that Aaron is indeed in love with him, the show seems to realize there actually is something to play with there, so I could become invested. Thomas is the only guy Miller has ever had chemistry with, though it has never compared to his chemistry with Isobel Hodgins, which annoyed me because it was obvious they froze that relationship to further their own agenda.

I've rarely ever been a couple fan though, and you're right in that Emmerdale has a pathetic history when it comes to gay stories, not just with the hand shake wedding, but with the horrible decision to make Jackson a main character, who from that moment on, ruined Aaron's character until he (Aaron) finally left. So, as long as they write it from a story standpoint and not to cater to any type of homophobic or eccentric fans, than I could be behind it. However, Adam has been hard to take in the last couple of months as well with all his slut shaming and being an all around bastard. They're turning that around, thankfully, but I am also still holding out hope that Aaron's friendship with Victoria (I know I blather on about it), will be built up again. This is a huge doubt of mine, however. Then, there is also that damn eyeroll Miller does in practically every scene that I can't stand. I don't know why he thinks that's a good acting choice, but it makes Aaron look like a douchebag practically every time he does it.

    • Today was painful (especially for Philip).  I still feel for Xander. He was clear he was happy sharing and working with Philip. It's just one more betrayal from someone he loved. Going back to last year when he found out about Victor and Fiona, then Alex and Philip. He forgave and tried. Then Philip went behind his back again. He's been walking on the edge for weeks. This is a man who was abused, neglected and has never had any therapy for his horrific past. He has zero coping skills because he's never learned them. I hate this but I refuse to hate Xander
    • Lucy Coe wasn't even this big of a whore.
    • Kate being the one that Alex called was a nice surprise. The cut to her looking all sheek made me instantly get excited for her to get back into business mode. And the Jack reference from when she first came to town (on-screen) was inserted naturally which is always welcome. When they were talking about how much sex sells, I almost got the impression they were sizing each other up in a May/December type of way.  All the Philip stuff was gruesome. I'm happy the show isn't shying away from Xander's ugliness. I love them both, and it just makes me intrigued for the aftermath for it all to be taken seriously. I cheered when Philip spat out at that Sarah knew the truth. I'm on tenterhooks for their eventual confrontation. I was surprised that Kate wasn't a little vicious towards Sarah for Xander's obvious behavior, but maybe that's still to come. How wonderfully entangled is it that both Philip and Shawn/Steve stopped each other from getting the drug. Both equally at fault. Who/what will ultimately save Bo? And with everything going on, is a Salem where it's looking likely that EJ is about to own the hospital imminent?
    • Oddly.. Chase and Steve seem to have both vanished from the canvas in December so the Estelle return loses impact when two of her kids stop appearing shortly after her return (and I assume TR leaves in early 1986 as well). The Steve recast doesn't work... but it's odd that he has a long scene with Teri with Cagney looking jealous.. when the majority of his time on the show previously was a relationship and engagement to Stephanie (who he barely has a scene with in the episodes I see). Your idea for Wendy/Bela/Stephanie sounds just like what Ryan's Hope did with Michael/Kim/Rae... and considering Louise Shaffer was playing Rae and Stephanie.. it would have been a lousy redux of a superior story on another soap (that had months of build-up) I think Quinn becoming assistant to Stephanie was Mayer/Braxton... but not 100 % sure. I don't know if Mayer/Braxton was setting up Sarah as a bad girl disguised as a good girl.. but the actress (Joyner) was playing the scenes in that manner.. and Tomlin wisely tapped into that when he took over.
    • She’s such a caricature - which is a shame because I think the actress is capable of so much more.   I don’t know why Cady often feels like she has overcompensated in her performances. She already proved she can play much more than just Dixie Cooley during her first stint at ATWT (her best acting era). Her performances in various roles since then have been quite strange at times.
    • It feels like the show suddenly woke up today and remembered it was Sweeps month. Lots of action and forward momentum, including a delicious Nina/Carly fight.

    • Where did I say that you weren't allowed to say anything? Personally I just find "disgusted" a very strong word, and not something I would use for such a trivial matter as a song contest. You obviously do, and that's your prerogative, just as it is mine to disagree.
