I always thought people tended to underrate Jessie Wallace as an actress because of how "big" of a character Kat was and how "brassy" she could be. I don't think Kat would have come as alive with another actress, Jessie was just meant to play this role.

John Yorke is very fond of her, too, and Charlie Brooks as well. My girls.:wub:

Spoilers and pics from next week's HORRIFIC teen week.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/eastenders/2010/05/picture-gallery-wc-31-may-2010.shtml

The only thing I'm looking forward to next week is next Friday's episode with the start of the Kirkwood era and Vanessa's entrance.

Also, though the Pat/Peeggy stuff is a bit ridiculous, I'm looking forward to the location stuff around London...

It's funny that Kirkwood is getting rid of both Zsa Zsa and Leon soon too.

I bet if Santer had stayed, they would have been the new "stars" of the teen set. He seemed very content with both characters.

Mercy was the only one with any promise on E20, so I don't mind them developing her more, which I guess saves Fatboy some time...

Yeah it's odd that the original plans for the E20 group coming to EE did not even involve Mercy. I'm not going to praise her before she's actually on the show but I did enjoy her on E20 and I'm hoping she can help fill a niche here, since the show needs more down-to-earth teen characters.

The first scenes for the E20 group were so horrible, sometimes I still wonder what was going on. Yet, you're probably right, if Santer had had his way it would have been Zsa Zsa and Leon, especially since Zsa Zsa had the Stacey/Whitney wannabe entrance.

That was also around the time poor Todd was abruptly dumped after many months of buildup. I guess we won't ever see him again.

Apparently they released two new photos of Glenda. I guess that doesn't mean anything (Leon just had two or three released) but hopefully it means she might stay around.

I can see them doing a lot with Lucy if they develop her more, and stop using her as a plot device.

I think Abi might also be better off if she's written in a bitchy manner. That scene where she was nasty to Ben was one of her better moments.

Here's another Anita Dobson video from 1987. ITV's Chart Show called this the worst video of the year. I don't know enough to say, but it is kind of annoying when she keeps mugging for the camera. The best part is when she turns into Brian May.

Stacey stabbing that blow up chair Mo got her while Heather was sitting on it in Tuesday's episode.

The Stacey and Ryan scenes in the Vic were kind of good too.

Ryan: Yeah, she [Mo] reckons I look like Burt Reynolds...

Stacey: I don't see it, I told her you look more like James Dean.

Ryan: You think so?

Stacey: Yeah ... after the accident.

I actually didn't mind Whitney and Leon today...

I assume these episodes were taped just a few weeks ago as Lacey is sporting the same hair she had at the British Soap Awards...

    • It's funny you say that because part of the entertainment of the trials on the show are all the day players who come on as witnesses and jurors.  I'm certain it was like the Law and Order of its time. It employed so many New York actors, that if you look close enough, there's usually someone vaguely recognizable in the courtroom.
    • I will defend Dante.  People already suspect he may be a bit unstable from time to time (from his time as a prisoner).  And, he's taking care of other people's kids from time to time.  So, he has reason to be cautious with those in his care.
    • Josh continues to try and milk Abbott/Newman rivalry. First it was Billy/Victoria, then Kyle/Summer, then Noah/Allie (that worked out well) and now Kyle/Claire. Do we have any inkling when Billy Flynn will arrive and who he will play? I'm sure Cole's illness will mostly play offscreen. What's in store for Nick and Sharon? Is it time to put them back together? I can't see any other romantic options. Nick has no children on the canvas to play off, as Christian is never seen. Sharon has only Mariah onscreen.
    • I would appreciate (if they're not coming), for future scripts to refer to them by their iconic hairdos.  For example, if Hope needs to call Chelsea because Bo has Sepsis, I'd like Shawn-D to say, "My Mom called Chelsea (the one with the sassy short black hair) for an update." Also, new rule, if Melanie does return, she needs to dye her hair back to red.  I googled who she was five times during Victor's funeral.

    • Broderick, thank you for all of the info [I edited for space]. I am so grateful for everyone filling in the blanks for me. I suspected the Nora/Eliot scene was very important and it was setting something up but I didn't know what. Can't wait to see it play out. The two actors had such a great back and forth. I should have made the Paige/Patty Hearst connection. I thought Paige was in love with Brian from the first episode I watched but it seemed as if they were brother and sister. Steve kept being affectionate with her so I assumed he was the love interest. Then she was affectionate with someone else and well..she's a very busy woman. I can't wait to see Frances Fisher show up. (I'm trying to be vague because I don't know what would be a spoiler in this storyline) Now it makes sense why Draper would be upset. I didn't get the whole background of why he didn't go to NY. I'm a sucker for good acting, so I might still side with April and Margo, if the writers don't give Draper more to do besides yelling.  He had more chemistry with Logan, but I know that's not happening.  Something else I noticed: the show really takes care with even the smallest parts. The acting is superb. Too often, I noticed on older soaps they don't take care with the recurring or day players (Ryan's Hope was so bad with this that I couldn't make it through some episodes). It's only been six episodes, but so far, the casting department was spot on.
    • I thought Dante was overreacting.  Gio made some mistakes but he's young and he tried.  It's not like he dragged two 14 years to a party and made them get blackout drunk.  Dante can have the initial upset reaction, but to go on and on was a bit much.
    • His (adoptive) nieces.  Chelsea and Stephanie.  I think Abby was involved too, but I am not sure if they are related lol.
    • That was such a dark story. I never liked Swamp girl after that. And then the dating your cousin thing. I think wasn’t Max in a triangle with two of his cousins?
    • Thank you, @j swift.  I'm probably more sympathetic to Draper Scott than most audience members are -- even though I'm absolutely CRAZY about Ann Williams & her bizarre Margo Huntington character

The more I watch these episodes -- and I've watched several of them a zillion times, I'm ashamed to admit -- you realize there's a WHOLE lot of passive-aggressive hostility brewing inside Margo Huntington about Draper.  She wants to take April AWAY from him and recreate the childhood that she never got to experience with April, because of the adoption 25 years ago.  Draper has sense enough to realize how heartless and vindictive Margo really is about other people's lives and their feelings, but he bites his tongue rather than poison his wife's mind about how horrible her mother really is.  And I admire him for that.  He's a sweet boy.
    • Unfortunately, as the 90s wore on, Felicia started wearing as many gray and neutral tones as Giorgio Armani and Donna Karan could produce, and the shoulder pads deflated to a drop sleeve.
