Members DRW50
The impressions aren't the best (more Peggy) but this is a lot of fun. I especially love the part about "We don't like the whisperers and they don't like us." Members MichaelGL
Taking a first look at the Digital Spy forum....wow those brits really take their soaps seriously, so seriously that some of those agenda driven posts really do delve into some heated debates about which soap is better.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
Ten years ago today, the princess of Walford made her triumphant return to the square after a six year absese as the surprise new landlady of the Vic, to Peggy's surprise and anger. The whole thing was built around Peggy thinking Mel and Steve had been the secret buyers of the Vic, but it turned out to be Sharon, who was more than happy to rub it in Peggy's face. One of the best reveals and camp moments on the show. It would be one of the big highlights in what was a banner year for the show in 2001. BBC article on Sharon's return The return cliffhanger was on Thursday May 24, 2001, and her first full episode back was on the the 28th, the following Monday. <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/bpA-HH46apg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/zP5fgTHytp4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/O4GWiGszuAA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/bMLEaPo2xec" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Edited May 24, 2011 by Y&RWorldTurner
Members DRW50
Thanks for all the fun clips. They did a great job with Sharon's return. Soaps generally fail at returns.
Members DRW50
I was a little thrown by that Zainab/Syed scene. "Squeeze my hand tighter." What is that about? I hope they weren't implying she has some incestuous feelings. Christian should have known Zainab can't stand humiliation, or people knowing about her pain. I felt a little sorry for her in that moment, even if he didn't mean any harm. I think the Syed/Tanya friendship does a lot for both characters. It's not pathetic or overly intrusive, the way Christian/Roxy and Tanya/Jane are. Poor Greg. His line about "Greg's booty" and "Max's booty" needed a very dirty response. Given that they have the nicest asses on the show. I guess, from Jack and Sean, that is Tanya's "type." Members Y&RWorldTurner
I think Sharon's return was the last truly successful one they did. Even though the show had changed a bit and this was during the peak of the Slater and villain Phil eras, it didn't really feel like she had been gone for a long time. And Sharon is a character who you can give campy situations to and it will still be believable. I wonder why they didn't really focus on Sharon's friendship with Pat as much during her comeback years. They interacted, but it wasn't as much. From a lot of the early 90's episodes, Pat and Frank kind of became surrogate parents to her after Den and Angie were gone. Instead, they built up Sharon and Pauline's friendship
Members Y&RWorldTurner
Dot's younger half-sister has been cast: http://www.walfordweb.co.uk/ww/story/4055/future-looks-rose-y-dot Oh, and goodbye to Jim Branning. Most who've only watched since John Bardon's stroke will never know that Jim was once a very active comedic and supporting character. I wonder why they didn't kill him off, I guess out of respect for Bardon...

Members DRW50
I'm surprised they're bringing in family for Dot that we had never heard of before, but it's probably needed. I guess those who felt she was just going to have story with sleazy Edward will be happy. It's confusing because when you look for her in IMDB you see Gwyneth Paltrow photos! Clearly she hasn't worked in TV or films in a long time.

Members Y&RWorldTurner
Apparently, Dot mentioned her a lot more in the 80's, and on occasion since. I believe she's also referred to in Dot's Story. It will be interesting as we've never really seen Dot with any of her real family outside of Nick. I liked Dot and Jim, but Dot was never a Branning, and she didn't marry Jim because she loved him (in the traditional sense at least), she married him because she was lonely after Ethel died and needed a companion/friend.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
Apparently, June Brown is close friends with the actress who will play her sister and suggested her to Tony Holland and Julia Smith when they were casting for Eldorado, and that's how she ended up on that show... Members DRW50
I do look forward to this. Some see it as catering to June Brown, but I think this other woman will probably be a fine addition, and I think, as long as they move on a bit from the Edward stuff, Dot has a lot of possibilities left as a character. I liked Dot and Jim but I wasn't fond of the whole Dot as everyone's long-suffering, weeping grandmother routine that had started up in the last 3-4 years. I think this recent stuff has helped to ease this story out and while Jim won't be forgotten, it was time to move Dot on.
