Why? WHY?!!!!

I wanted Kate to stay at Emmerdale. She was doing so well.

Why mess up a good thing, ITV?! :(

But I do hope that she takes the broom and clean house. Starting with Michelle, Fiz, and Sean. All them of them irrelevant bitches can go.

3 years is the time that the current ITV soap heads have said is the limit for producers.

Sadly I think there is a caste system at Corrie, and certain people (namely Fiz, Sean, and Michelle) will never leave. They have tried to tone down these three after some truly horrific writing periods, but sh!t stinks no matter how much perfume you put on it.

In terms of what she actually might have the power to do, it's time to stop writing Gail as a bad joke and it's time to either make Liz bearable again or ship her off. Just have Kim Tate buy the pub - she has no purpose on the show, but she'd be more believable as a landlady. And either make Sarah believable or ship her off too.

As good as a fit as Kate Oates has (largely) been on Emmerdale, Coronation Street is an altogether different beast. It's an institution, it's The Daddy, it's a machine.

When Bryan Kirkwood was named Executive Producer of Eastenders I made the same point about Eastenders (and the BBC) being a machine and said he would do well if he worked within the machine. The results are well documented.

If you believe what you read, Coronation Street has much bigger egos, higher profile characters/actors and a 'pecking order' that would be harder for anyone to navigate.

Unless she ties up her tenure with a pretty bow, people may judge her stewardship of Emmerdale as having lasted 6 months to a year too long.

It's also important to remember that some of the artistic license, afluence and 'glamour' afforded to aspects of Emmerdale aren't traditionally associated with Coronation Street. Though gawd bless Phil Collison for giving the associated sensationalism a going over.

But as we know, especially in the last 15-20 years, guiding Emmerdale does seem to be some kind of leg-up to Coronation Street, regardless of how well-received (see Kieran Roberts and Kate Oates) or otherwise (see Steve Frost/November and Stuart Blackburn) your time on the former is. Though not a rule (see Anita Turner and Kathleen Beedles, a certain Mr Blyth not considered for obvious reasons).

If Kieran Roberts is anything to go by, then quality should follow Kate Oates to Manchester from Leeds.

And having gone over to the you-know-where to gauge reaction, I see the perve threads have started already over the incoming producer.

I wish her well and hope for the best as I will pray for Emmerdale. Let's merely hope Iain McLeod has been working to the directive of Bryan Kirkwood over on Hollyoaks and that his style isn't at such odds with what we see now that a messy transition and fall-out takes place.

They always say that but it never happens. Sadly this show's worst casting choices never go away. And with some of the idiot fans out there like the one I saw demanding they bring back that 30 year old Ryan recast, I can't say I am surprised...

I was watching a 2005 episode, a relatively better time for the show (relatively) and Sean and Fiz are so damn annoying, especially Fiz. To think they are untouchable is bewildering to me.

Looks like Simon Gregson will be leaving for a while again. I wonder how much longer it will be before they have to Rovers change hands. Unfortunately there is no one on the show who has the grit to believably run it. I do wonder at times if they will just give it to Eva Price. Or Kylie and David...

Ryan Thomas is quitting Corrie for Hollywood. I thought he'd be there for life so I'm surprised. It's too bad - he's a good actor and one of the most gorgeous men I can remember on a soap.

I see Adam following his brother seeing as they are extremely close and they both are over here a lot on holiday. I think their trips over here were tests to see if they wanted to make the move.

And I wish the show did more with Jason than just making him be Corrie's resident meathead/piece of meat.

I think he has potential of landing something. I remember people saying Rob Kazinsky wouldn't amount to anything and he went on to land on True Blood and will be in one of the most anticipated movies of 2016, Warcraft

I'd hope Kate would. If anything, I hope she goes through and get rid of characters like Fiz, Michelle, Chesney, and Sean.

I can't really see either of them making it, although Ryan might have more of a chance than Adam, as he's a bit more of the classic leading man look. Danny Miller was just saying in an interview he wished Adam had more to do so that does make me wonder...

I would love to see all of those characters go, but sadly there's a certain clique at Corrie that rules all.

Small clip I uploaded for the passing of Peter Baldwin, the wonderful actor who played hapless Derek Wilton for many years. The character could be extremely annoying, but he also made me laugh. This particular scene always made me laugh a lot.

Here he and Thelma Barlow are a few years ago.

    • I think maybe viewers needed a break from Aaron Spelling by 1985 or 1986. He had a series, Macgruder and Loud, which I recall, even as a young teen, getting TONS of promotion with even a post-Super Bowl slot, and it failed. Viewers probably were - as said here - tired of soapy fare and went elsewhere. But they must have missed him since, as we know, Spelling rose from the TV ashes in the '90s with Beverly Hills 90210 and Melrose Place!
    • I’ve been enjoying the pace the show has taken recently. Things don’t languish as long as they have and if they are drawing something out, like Gio’s adoption, it’s hasn’t been as excruciating. Also, my nosey nature would appreciate less interaction with posters I have on ignore so I don’t have to click on “options”.

    • Okay...I'm just going to call it. Ambyr Michelle is the breakout star of this show with the young set hands down! There is no character like Eva that pulls my heart strings, and she's playing it perfectly. If Eva and Leslie are on, it's a good episode! If written properly, Eva and Kat's rivalry is one that could go on for YEARS. Of course, it's fun to speculate about who is really whom, but I could see them developing as frenemies after some time. They really need a guy to tussle over to amp it up. Tomas is pretty, but the actor has got to loosen up some in his scenes, I think. He is improving though. It would be good to introduce a new young man in that story for a foursome.  Martin and Smitty finally feel like a real couple to me, too. Hopefully, they locked them into four year contracts.
    • I'll be that guy and say I don't think TMG is a fool. This is a popular contract role on a year-round soap opera for a woman of a certain age (to say nothing of a woman of color). If I'm her I pull a Kimberlin Brown and ride this til the wheels fall off.
    • Tbf it's not unusual for a family when they are dealing with some bad news that changes a life to use song to give out hope.Especially black families. I personally had to deal with that very thing this weekend. Partly off putting, but at the same time, I did get the point and it gave me a bit of hope in the moment.      MM is definitely acting. But Smitty is just so passive. It could turn into quiet strength at some point, but for now...passive IMO.
    • Am I remembering correctly that the Madison's lived in a Spanish revival-style house? I have a vague recollection of the fireplace looking especially Spanish in style. It is unusual that Montecello had so many architectural styles.  Obviously, that might occur IRL.  But, look at other east coast soaps and there is a definitive style that is throughout (because it was styled by a set decorator) regardless of the income of the occupants.
    • @kalbir MSW was a powerhouse for CBS. Angela Lansbury was a superb actress. In 1985, TV viewers were tiring of the primetime soaps and the like. People wanted storytelling and MSW was great at that and had great guest stars. Storytelling -- an amazing and novel concept. CBS Daytime by 1985 was beating ABC so CBS was on the upswing.
    • I'd say just the opposite - conflict means they will find out and then be at odds. For the limited amount of time people on this show have conflict (if they aren't named Nina or Ric, I guess).
    • Totes mcgoats (aka I agree). But, now the character needs to move forward.  Clyde's exit was 12/11/24.  It is May.  She and Chad have been on one date. I don't think they've slept together. And she was only planning on sticking around for a year.
    • That is one of the best insults I've heard in a long time.  I burst out laughing when Kat called Eva that.  LOL Their scenes, of course, were really good.  Colby and Ambyr have so much chemistry.  The only thing I'd change is Kat saying "you're dead to me."  That's a phrase usually said about someone you care about.  I would've preferred something like "You will never be my sister," or something similar to that.  Nice contrast at the end with both mothers/daughters:  Kat comforting/consoling her mother, and Eva being locked out by her mother.  Yeah, I wasn't a big of fan of the singing either, especially after your daughter's life has been destroyed.  What?  LOL And I also agree with those that thought Dana/Leslie's scenes with the Dupree's didn't feel right since Eva is not a Dupree....unless she is.  But as of right now, she's not.
