I still wonder if this out of nowhere stuff with Mercedes and Riley/Carl was supposed to be Mitzeee. They claimed Later was going to have Mitzeee and Riley together. Now right after Malachy is in the ground, Mercedes is thrown right into this story.

Riley is so dull, and most of the idea of this story - will she hurt this young guy - is ruined by casting an actor who looks so much older than the role. Mercedes and Carl do have chemistry. They should have Carl take his clothes off and have less of the closeups of his frozen forehead.

Why is Ricky back? Marquess dumped all of the good new characters and kept this dead-eyed frump with the Orphan Annie hair. If it's to make Duncan less worthless, it isn't working.

Anthony Quinlan was really bad in this last episode. The whole show seems so underrehearsed.

I get the idea that a lot of people are loving the show because of Brendan. That might be why I can't get that involved. I just don't get Brendan's appeal. He has a nice body, but otherwise all he does is mumble in a quasi-Terminator accent, with a blank look on his face. And Ste is in the Craig Dean role, where, for someone who is supposedly struggling with his feelings, he certainly looks happy to be around Rae.

Warren looks so ridiculous in that coat. He looks like a penguin. He waddles around with his arms sticking out. Jamie Lomas has never been a good actor but he was better than this.

This story is pretty much going down the same road most of these stories go. Any sex between men is dirty and trashy and abusive.

I just don't get anything about Brendan. He goes around with a stupid look on his face like someone kneed him in the balls, and whispers his lines, and this is what passes for interesting characters.

No wonder the ratings struggle to get over a million.

I don't get Brendan either. I gave up on Oaks not long after I decided to give it a chance (wish I could find episodes from December 2006 and on, though, I was really enjoying those!). I was interested in the Jasmine/Bart thing, but once they introduced Fern, I checked out. Ste/Brendan went nowhere very, very quickly. The rest of the show failed, epically, to capture my attention. I read on some random site that there are cancellation rumors afoot.

Everything with Ste and Brendan is very cynical. They are shock value, and the viewers who enjoy that will get hot while the viewers who don't might at least be interested. That scene where we were supposed to be so shocked when Brendan had Rae leave and then had sex with Ste -- wow, we see Brendan, fully clothed, tower over Ste. Hot stuff. And look, their faces are near each other as Brendan does his best impression of the Terminator. Thrilling. And gee, Brendan has a porn star mustache. How shocking and daring.

None of the show makes any sense. They cast these men, some of whom look very old (like Bart) as teenagers, which is not atypical for soaps, but the stories they give them are such a mess. Why is Bart McQueen in a boy band? Doesn't that go against everything the character was supposed to be? Why is that idiot Ricky there? His father beats him, but who cares, let's see him give his usual comatose expressions in a boy band?

I actually do enjoy Lee, but they use him, as they use Darren, to try to cover up crappy stories.

And the scenes with "angry" Gilly were hilarious.

Poor Jacqui, having to get in this old tired "sell yourself to save your man" story (the guy even sounds a bit like Andy Hunter from EE). I also don't believe Rhys is the "love of her life."

I read some spoilers that'll probably end up being revolting on screen. Another problem with this new producer is how dark the show is. He seems to turn to violence as the easiest source of drama. Everything seems to be about shocking the viewers. He needs to be writing All My Children or something.

Now tell me does that character really deserve that? It upsets me just reading that. Everytime I think of returning to this show something upsets me. It makes no sense.

The main problem is that Marquess does not have the ability to ground any of his shock value stuff, to make people care. He has described the spoiler you mention as "cool." It's grotesque, and if it was presented that way onscreen then people might be fascinated. If it is presented as just shock value then who cares? It's the same stuff as the fire. They just shrugged off most of what was supposed to be a tragedy. Steph choosing to inhale smoke and burn to death instead of dying of cancer should have been very dramatic, but instead the only story to come out of it was dead-eyed lumps forming a boy band. Malachy's death was IMMEDIATELY forgotten so that Mercedes could try to make the Costellos less boring. And then there's Warren's return -- Warren basically pushed a man into a fire in order to get out free, and yet the whole thing is done so apathetically, apparently we're not supposed to care.

Supposedly the original fire plans had Brendan killing Amy. Sadly if that had happened it probably would have just been interpreted by many as another example of how complex the mumbling comatose Brendan is, and Ste would have just made a few whimpery faces before Brendan punched him out and then used him for sex.

    • This is so confusing. So will CBS and P.Plus just be a day ahead for the rest of the episodes the whole week?
    • April 15, 1993 is when they first meet.
    • Does anyone know the air date when Victoria & Cole first meet? Was there a scene when Victoria was sitting on Cole's lap and kissed him? If so, does anyone know the air date?
    • When is the last time Bridget & Deacon scene happened?
    • Surely that was a joke. Why would anyone seriously ask if Dani had any rooms besides having a bedroom? MOST of the time when we see her, she's in that open, airy, white room with her kitchen far stage left & there's an island & a love seat.  I have meant to post to say how taken I was with Eva last Thursday. You don't know it but I have  not really gotten into either Eva or Leslie/Sheila/Anna/Dana/Mom in the same ways or degrees most of y'all have.  With "Many Names" I get that it's quite a challenge to play that evil & that crazy without becoming cartoonish & she hasn't, so there is that. But, I do not see layers or nuance. I also do not fault the actress. If the gray tones are not there on the page, I don't expect to see them ripped out of thin air. With Eva there were so many questions. Now most have been answered.
    • No kidding. It’s amazing to me that CBS as messy as it was for the 97-98 season landed at #2 that year thanks to Sunday nights, 1/2 of the Monday night lineup, Diagnosis Murder on Thursdays, and oddly the Saturday night line-up. I think CBS was saved by the Winter Olympics not to mention ABC had gotten even messier than CBS’ mess.  CBS came out a more solid for #2 for the 98-99 season but was still very uneven overall. Outside of Sundays the rest of the network’s hits were on checkerboard split between Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.    Had it not been for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire fever I’d say CBS probably would’ve been at #2 for the 99-00 season as well, very much still uneven but of course Survivor and CSI were on the horizon. (*There’s some evidence that CBS may have barely eked out a win for #2 for the 96-97 season but that season’s mess sure doesn’t feel that way)
    • By request, I present to you "Abbott Communications".
    • Meh, I'm a bit tipsy after coming from a Mother's Day festivity. I should have posted a picture of her and Andre in her little great room.
    • Their question was does she only have a bedroom lol
