True, and John Abbott went all the way to his grave not knowing that Ashley was his biological daughter. The only difference is that JER was more blatant showing these secrets on a daily bases, without any nuances, so you were always waiting for them to come out (only to be left disappointed).

Cole's officially on my s--- list. I hope Starr pushes him into the pool today (though she'll probably just whine). If I were John I would have told him how disappointed Marty would have been in him. Then again, the damage is already done so there's really no point in that.

On the subject of Shane's paternity, I actually like that they haven't revealed it yet. I don't see it coming out for a long time, and when it does I have a feeling Adriana will be back to pick up the pieces when Rex and Gigi collapse. Whether or not Melissa Fumero's in the role is another story. I like Brody, too, and I think that he's slowly becoming a viable love for Gigi as well.

Kristen Alderson and Brandon Buddy both did good jobs today! I was impressed.

Starr is doing this to get back at Todd. Starr is doing this to get back at Todd. Starr is doing this to get back at Todd. What is Starr doing? This. Why is Starr doing this? To get back at Todd. She wouldn't have been so adamant about Michael and Marcie getting lil Starrlet if she wasn't driven by her need to get revenge on Todd. Cole has come to the decision that he'll raise the kid with or without Starr, so it's not as if him having Starrlet would automatically mean her being bogged down by a kid. She (and Cole, too) have to acknowledge that this is something that disagree strongly about and if it has to come to them breaking up, then that's too bad.

Rex/Gigi <3333 I'm also very torn between Gigi being with Rex and Gigi being with Brody. I love the family dynamic of Gigi, Brody, and Shane, but at the same time, I love the sort of young lovers in love dynamic of Gigi and Rex. And interestingly, ever since Brody came to town, we haven't seen Rex bonding with Shane much at all. It's only natural, of course, since Shane thinks Brody is his father. I'm gonna hate all of the angst and hurt feelings once the truth comes out!

I think the idea of stretching the secret out over years is a great one. The only thing is, you can't have every conversation between Gigi and Rex or Gigi and Brody be about Shane and his paternity. In real life (I'm speaking from experience here, LOL; I wasn't the child whose paternity was in question, but my older sister was), if the secret sticks, the secret sticks and everybody goes on with their lives for years. That's what makes it explosive. It's just like how they did it with Jessica and Natalie's paternities, but the only difference is that with Gigi/Rex/Brody/Shane...ten years from now, people will be able to say "well, that's exactly how it happened all those years ago." There won't be a need to create this false history to make it work. The storyline is already laid out.

I love JPL and the character of Rex, but I've always enjoyed his interactions with Roxy and Bo and Natalie more than his romantic entanglements. For some reason when Rex isn't toying with someone's affections and manipulating them, when he's genuinely in love, it seems he becomes "sappy" for lack of a better term. I've personally enjoyed his other stories more than his romances.

I agree that stretching the secret out over years will work. But it almost has to be one of those things that the audience almost forgets about. Their story can't be about this secret looming out there, and the audience can't be reminded in almost every scene that Gigi is lying to Rex. They have to develop a relationship that transcends the secret, have other stories where the secret isn't at the forefront, but instead is dormant in some almost forgotten corner. There, but not a real factor in the drama that is unfolding. Right now -- virtually every interraction with Gigi and Rex, or Gigi and almost anyone is about "Should I tell, or should I not?" Gigi needs to be resolved, not conflicted. The secret can lay dormant as long as she's committed to never telling and really believes it will never come out, and has moved on from that decision. Then of course it can come back and bite her in the ass at any time. Weeks, months, or many years in the future.

One problem I do see, however, is there are too many people who know the truth. Gigi, Marcie, Dorian, Adrianna, Layla, Brody. Adrianna and Layla aren't such a factor because Adrianna is "gone" and Layla may as well be for as much as we see her (grrrrrr!). Other than the rare and random interference from Dorian, she's barely a part of this, and conceivably Dorian won't ever tell unless it serves her in some way. Brody is the real tripper upper. Why else is he there? What will you do with him if he doesn't exist as a constant reminder that Shane is Rex's son? And even if you give Brody a story away from Gigi and Rex, how can you prevent him from serving as that glaring reminder?
