Administrator Toups Posted June 13, 2008 Administrator Share Posted June 13, 2008 It's time for this topic again! When Dena Higley is fired, who would you like to see takeover? I'll post my answer later and keep you guys in suspense.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
Oh my, I wonder WHO it could possibly be!
Members brimike
I'm telling you, Dena's got at least another year. If Hogan got a year, Dena will get AT LEAST that.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
My answer: No matter who is it, they will never be able to fully write that show well or have a cohesive vision. At the end of the day, it's Corday's show and whatever he says goes. I think the ghost of Douglas Marland could write DAYS and the crazy fanbases DAYS has (and DAYS fanbases are the most extreme of all the soaps) would declare him a hack within his first week. Members Soapsuds
This is not fair. Days always gets a writing change and ATWT is still stuck with Pissant. When are we going to hear The Plan to Save ATWT?? I would start a thread to fire Pissant but for years now it hasnt worked.
Members Dr. Jay S.W.
James E. Reilly, will be the next head writer, even if Rick is his Co- Head. I think so at least, then Victor G, who means nothing will be fired.
Members Shawn
If JERk is rehired, I will personally put arsenic in his Krispy Kreme. I'd love to see Sheri Anderson return. That would be divine.
Administrator Toups Posted June 13, 2008 Author Administrator Share Posted June 13, 2008 You're such a downer! Have faith! Ken Corday will panic when DAYS hits 1.0 in 18-49 demos and 0.6 in 18-34 demos. I'm going to predict that will happen this summer.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
I have something else to add. DAYS is one of those soaps that can't be written 100% in a traditional soap opera fashion (soaps like AMC, OLTL, Y&R, GL and ATWT are). JER's DAYS totally altered the creative structure of that show and a lot of the younger fans DAYS has aren't accustomed to a more traditional soap opera approach. Even before JER, DAYS wasn't a typical traditional soap opera. Ever since the 80's, DAYS has had a distinctive campy nature where one had to suspend his/her disbelief to watch, more so than other soaps. We saw Sally Sussman Morina (well as well as she could) and even Hogan try to move DAYS back to a more traditional feel, and it didn't work, at least not with many vocal fans and with the ratings. I think DAYS is quite possilby the hardest soap to write for.
Administrator Toups Posted June 13, 2008 Author Administrator Share Posted June 13, 2008 Reilly won't fire Victor - he didn't last time and didn't in the 90's.
Members Vee
Michael Malone and Josh Griffith. They did extremely mixed work at OLTL last time but I still worship their original run together, and they did have some good ideas and concepts last time. Also, frankly, their last OLTL run closely resembled Days of our Lives - a mix of the crazy and fantastic with an attempt at social commentary. Even if their run was mostly of the same quality as their last turn at ABC, it'd be much better than Higley. I expect Days fans would probably enjoy six interminable months of Mitch Laurence in his secret tunnels with cursed magical diamonds and secret mansions in the woods more than we did. But to tell you the truth, I think Dena will last. Corday gets along with her and she sees eye to eye with him - when one thing doesn't work right, immediately shift gears and try something new and stupid. He's a control freak, she's an old-school staffer of his family. She's staying.
Members Khan
No question: Tom Casiello. He's young (and "fresh meat"), he's experienced (w/ soap writing, if not head-writing), he's a fan of the show (so at least he knows the history), and thanks to his blog, he has a fair amount of goodwill with the audience. And if he doesn't want it? Then, try, try, try like hell to convince Pamela K. Long to return to daytime.
Members aMLCproduction
I don't think Malone and Company would be a good fit. Like some one says, Days is the hardest show to write for beacsue it 's campy nature. I honestly don't know who I would want to be the next HW(there's almost no one left)LML would be great. Toups how long do we hae to wait?
Members Roman
You know who I want to see? The HW who writes after Ken Corday is gone, because no matter who the writer or staff is......until he is put out to pasture, Days is going to keep going through this. Members brimike
Vee, you hit the nail right on the head. I never thought about it before, but that's RIGHT up Days' alley!
