Which Writers Aren't Working Who Should Be?

It seems there are a lot of solid soap opera writers with HISTORY with the various shows who aren't currently working. Rather than the endless parade of "newbies" who have no real connection to the show they're working on, who do you think should be hired or re-hired to bring authenticity to Genoa City, Llanview, Salem, Port Charles, Pine Valley, etc.?

Um...

NANCY CURLEE

Trent Jones

James Houghton

Claire Labine (who, despite her age has said she still wants to write for soaps)

Lorraine Broderick

Karen Lewis

Michelle Patrick

Hal Corley

Tom Casiello

Most of the former Y&R writers who weren't picked up by B&B.

I'm forgetting some, but I'll be back with more later. :)

Seriously, Nancy Curlee should be on the TOPS of everyone's lists.

Even if you're not a Guiding Light fan, you should be just as aware of her as you are of Agnes Nixon, Bill Bell, and Doug Marland.

Especially since (no disrespect intended, naturally) Nancy isn't dead or in retirement.

THIS IS THE ONLY example I can think of, where there's a writer who is still in her prime, gifted beyond all words, and STILL not employed. And the fact that it's allegedly self-imposed is even MORE infuriating.

ETA: That's off the top of my head. If I've forgotten someone who's still ready to work, it's merely due to absent-minded-ness, not disrespect.

Word brimike!

She's reportedly only 50, which isn't old at all. I dream of the day she makes her triumphant return to daytime and shows us the way a true soap opera should be written. The fact that she was responsible for GL's last golden era, when JFP and Lucy Johnson were there to impose their power says a whole lot.

I almost don't want Nancy to return though. I can't see her putting up with the current BS state of daytime television. Since she allegedly left because of network/P&G interference, I guess we've sadly seen the last of her.

I've heard she and Stephen Demorest live a rather comfortable life in Virginia though. Which reminds me, Stephen is another one who needs a job pronto!

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!

Toups, at the risk of being mushy, this is why I adore you.

You love who you love, and make no apologies for it. It's the same reason I have nothing but the utmost respect for JP as well. KUDOS to you!!!!!! We might all find fault, but you stick to your guns. BRAVO TO YOU!!!!

I'm going to say Tom Casiello, though there are others.

I say him because I feel we know him through his blogs. He is like us, a lover of the genre, so he knows us, the audience. He is also the (relatively) new blood so many of us have been asking for.

I cross my fingers that his primetime project is a success. If not, let's all rally to give this guy a chance in daytime.

    • -- Laura to Sonny: "I will always love and respect you." GAG ME. This stuff doesn't lead me to respect Sonny more, but to respecting Laura less. -- Carly being brought into the Gio/Brook Lynn story by Lulu. GAG ME. Why does Carly have to be a part of every damn story on this show?
    • This episode was probably the most we've ever seen of Jan.. and it took long enough. The phone conversation between Jan/Ashley also shed light on their backstory.. and I think it explains why Ashley seems to live in a dreamworld and why she's having difficulties with living with Derek.  Derek could be doing everything right and Ashley would still have a problem because she was an only child, didn't see her mother model positive male/female interactions, and sounds as if she was alone a lot of the time. Nicole is modeling healthy human behavior and she would be smart not to listen to Dani's advice... well intentioned as it is. Eva is the character you root for because she's suffering the consequences of her actions.  And if I were Eva, I wouldn't want to be part of the Dupree world.   I'm hoping the Doug/Joey scenes today is signaling that we're finally moving to the next stage of this story... Doug either asking Vanessa for the money, or letting Joey have dibs on Vanessa's business books, etc.   And Joey finally showing his true colors makes me think we might be approaching that next stage of this story.
    • Lord have mercy!!! Not SilkPress vs Eva at Oprhany Gene for everyone to see!!!! Though I loved Vernon shading SilkPress. I continue to love all this fallout.   Is THAT Joey's endgame?
    • WAIT!!?  You don't want to know CM's workout secrets?  And a recap of his insta feed?  What's wrong with you?   Anyhow, today's show had good character moments.  I feel like Sonny/Laura brought it down.  I really like Tracey and Jason scenes so I think I am a weirdo.  Carly/Lulu were actually pretty good as well, but Carly's dress was some sort of bondage/leather type situation?  It was a strange wardrobe choice lol.
    • Oh God When are we gonna see this on BTG?
    • Yeah, I don't really love Felicity being used to push the Chad/Cat agenda.  I don't get the question on Xander's behavior either.  He was wrong and offensive. I like Xander.  I think Paul Telfer is great.  If Marlena did the same thing I would say she's wrong too.  Characters are imperfect and that's fine.
    • Vanessa told Joey that her best friend had cheated and has a surprise daughter.  Joey said the same had happened to him.  I wasn't sure if Joey was saying he has an adult out-of-wedlock child?
    • Interesting. I definitely think that it's possible that Jan could be a former lover of Joey's from back in the day, maybe back when he was still married. I won't be surprised if it comes out at some point that Jan used to be an escort or something.
    • Quick question, How are you guys making time to watch all these soaps? I consider myself a pretty organized person, but since I have committed to watching more of the older soaps. I feel all over the place, and can not figure out a schedule that seems to work.  How are you all doing it?   Thanks. I will check that out.
    • Oh, poor Henry had to wait for the grave to finally come "out"! The whole things was McTavish plot dictated so that Hart could have money to pull off his scam of Roger later. The fortune is totally forgotten later. Which reminds me WHY did they fire Hilliard who actually could kinda pass for a midwestern farm boy..from JOISEY Grillo? AM and Lucy's wedding has got to be the weirdest wedding up to that point and really exemplified the McLaiby cheesy run. Universal Studios? And the Spauldings shut the place down for the wedding that only involves 6 people??? Its not even that weird that Bridget and David arent there...they didn't even invite AM's Mom or Grandfather...
