It confirms my hypothesis that 1960s Sofia was a bit more conniving.  She wanted to make sure that Channing (aka Lionel Jr, aka Brick) would one day own the keys to the kingdom.

Meanwhile, supposed bad guy CC still kept Channing's son in the will, even after he found out that he wasn't Channing's biological father, and the son he raised had been switched at birth.  I'm just saying, justice for CC.

I agree about CC. He wasn't as bad as the family often made him out to be. But Brandon isn't just Channing's son. CC officially adopted him. I really do have an enormous soft spot for CC, and think he was often misunderstood. Especially in the later years. He loved his family very much and tried to protect them. It's just that his attempts were usually misguided.

It annoys me that Brandon, who was essentially a major plot point for the first year of Santa Barbara, ultimately became a persona non grata by the end. After 1987 he just disappeared when an uncredited actor portrayed the role. By 1990 (my choice) or even 1991, when the Dobsons returned to co-executive producer alongside Paul Rauch, Brandon should have been slightly SORAS'd and pushing story. Trying to overtake his adoptive siblings, and then with the return of Santana, it would've created a major shift between Santana, CC and even Brandon. Plus, adding Gina into the mix? Amazing.

I'll never forget the Emmy Awards where either he won or Gina won, with the cute little guy who played Brandon so much, just dancing excited! Endearing.

I have a question. I need to be able to tease out an original cast list. Just those that were there, say, the first week. Anybody have any idea how I could accomplish that? Thnx.

What I really want is to know exactly what characters Bridget & Jerome created. They did the whole show bible, yep. And, common sense says that they did all of the original cast members. Now, where I lived at the time the NBC affiliate did not show SB either the first year or later, the last year.  Infuriating, I know. But, so, I didn't get to watch that. Is the first week up on YouTube? Because I could get at the info that way, by watching & making notes.

No, I haven't. I will! Thnx.

I think you can find the first week. I'm going by memory but first week: Mason, Kelly, Ted, CC, Joe, Jade, Marissa Perkins, Joes Dad- can't remember his name, Rosa, Danny, Santana, Augusta, Minx, Warren and Lakin. Lionel came a few weeks later. Sophia (Dominique) a few weeks after that. Julia was a couple of months into the run. Cruz was a few weeks in. Eden came in for CCs birthday.

It was ADORABLE when Justin Gocke won the Emmy.

I really am loosing patience with 88. Cain does nothing except yell about everything. Scott always yells. Constantly angry is one note and boring to watch.

Kelly is a nimrod! She hated TJ for everything he did to Sophia, but after her miscarriage, TJ was the bestest ever! And she's all oh Snookums, you're so dreamy. Then, Kelly gets into a fist fight over him? Poor Kimberly McArthur wasn't that bad, but she was saddled with an impossible storyline.

Sophia slapped Kelly? Again, no. 84-87 Sophia would have NEVER slapped her child. Under any circumstances.

Sonny. We wanted Mason, not this dude.

I do admit Sonny's reactions to Gina as she explained the Capwells had me rolling.

This show just feels off the rails to me, and not in the good way.

Hm. I'm not quite there yet, but, based on what I know, it sounds like Jill Farren Phelps & company were definitely taking what was a uniquely-created soap opera and tried to streamline it to be as the others, and it wasn't. I may have plenty of issues with the Dobsons, but their creation was unique.

    • I thought today was still good. Leo is always awful, but the characters treating him like he's a plague feeds my soul. Rafe in particular had been very passive about him, but today was wonderful seeing him put Leo on notice. I really think it's being written that Javi is going to have to eventually take the blinders off and see Leo for who he really is. Them having sex on Gabi's desk made me want to explode. Roman taking in stray Doug was nice to see. And the mention of Frankie and Max was unexpected, but good to know they're at least being thought of. Tate being petty and a bit vindictive by going back to Sophia's as soon as he saw Doug with Holly was entertaining for me. I think I actually like Tate the most out of all of them because he's so damn messy.  Is Holly about to be kidnapped? Her first time? Also, Gabi finally revealing what happened with her the night EJ was shot and the clearing of all the other main suspects, but Johnny made this still feel like an important episode. I think Johnny will be cleared soon enough leaving everybody at a loss for the hell shot EJ. How the real shooter will be revealed is going to be interesting.  Speculation: When Kristen finally puts together that her daughter Rachel shot him, she'll agree to frame her mother for the crime, while keeping her hidden away from Salem.
    • That would have saved the Anita singing segment -- having her by herself, singing quietly and reflectively. Belting it out like she was in church did not work. The black screens fade at the end was a mistake. BTG insists on being different with these fades for the sake of being different, and it's not working.   I thought all of that was just fine. Worked for me.   I'm going to disagree with this. Martin hasn't had many scenes with his parents, but he's been around family A LOT -- and that's what matters. We also know Martin is someone with a hair trigger response. He can be very emotional when discussing an issue before getting to the logic and reason of it all.
    • My view of Evan is that he's smart but not as smart as he thinks he is, not a good guy but not an entirely bad guy - he's a lot of things, the show never quite knowing what to do with them. I never saw him as Iris' follower because Iris always seemed a bit in over her head from the start.
    • She was the Town Historian, who knew a bit too much about Brandon and the infamous cottage.  SF was still a pretty normal place at that time, with Nola and Reva being the most outrageous citizens....seems that Carrie Pipper would have stood out a bit more for people.

    • Yes, I need to dot hat. Also on my list talking to the person I got these files from since they clearly have a mess, in terms of dates being wrong. And, unfortunately finding one date wrong, automatically means more are wrong, too.
    • I'm hoping that it doesn't happen. If the show keeps putting out good performance and story it will be hard to shut it out. Daphnee, Trisha, Ambyr and Colby are earning nominations without question.
    • Speaking of correcting dates, since you mentioned it above, why don't you go back to your Saturday post and edit it and replace your wording of "DAYS Ruth Buzzi 11-2-83"  with "DAYS Ruth Buzzi 11-1-83" and add a note that the video has the wrong date of 11/2/83 on it, and that the video is actually 11/1/83.
