Well, ever since I got a chance to watch the show from the very beginning, I have to admit I've been abusing the chance to just do the episode counts - meaning that I haven't watched so much of the show and instead just focused on doing the episode counts. I've pretty much fast-forwarded to around episode 120 because I've watched the first 120 episodes multiple times and I knew everything that was going on.

It was great fun to revisit the first storylines - the unsuccessful Rae/Casey pairing, Del's murder mystery, Paula getting kidnapped, Cole revealed as Elaine's son, and multiple similar storyline... and I've got to admit that after episode 100 is where it becomes more interesting. Just to make a note - Ashley Hamilton was horrible as Cole, not just because Cibrian owns the role, but because Hamilton didn't seem to know how to act at all. Plus, this new Tiffany Thorne is all kinds of horrible (and Adrienne Frantz was SO playing Amber even before she joined B&B).

The best part of the show was the reveal of Del's killer, Annie getting cremated, Caitlin and Cole escaping from Sunset Beach - and pretty much anything connected to Bette!

Now I'm around episode 120, as I've said, and this is where my FF session will stop for awhile and I'll get to enjoy more of the stuff ... this is also the time when the theme song will change, and I absolutely loved the second theme song. Of course, I might just continue FFing later if I find something boring.

And, the part that I'm looking forward the most is the Terror Island storyline which is where I stopped watching the show because my country didn't buy new episodes, and then pretty much the entire 1998 and 1999.

Will you post the ep counts?

Was never really interested in SuBe but this should be intersting... :)

Yes, definitely. However, I don't know how long it will take me. It depends on what episodes I decide to watch and which I just roll through in five minutes.

They didn't do well in any of the 3 years. They couldn't even pass their premiere week ratings, where as Passions beat their premiere week ratings in 18 months.

That's because many major affiliates didn't carry SUN (St Louis, Detroit to name a couple)in the beginning and the ones that did moved it to 2AM oblivion not long after. I'm pretty sure SUN aired in St Louis for not much longer than 1 full year before being banished to the post Last Call with Adam Curry slot. Passions was had 90 some odd percent coverage from jump.

I loved both Santa Barbara and Sunset Beach and, while there were some similarities in terms of Guza having worked on both shows, the SB thing and the fact that they shot on the same NBC studio space, that was where the similarities ended, IMO. I always found both shows different and judged them as such. SuBe had the Spelling imprint all over it!

I agree, though I won't deny that it bothered me to no end that NBC canned SB in 1993 only to bring on a soap a few years later with the same initials, set in a beach town in California, with a rich upper class family & a well-to-do Latino family with the sexy brother being a cop (!) to boot.

But the similarities really end there. Look no further than Margarita Cordova as SB's Rosa and Margarita Cordova as SUN's Carmen as evidence of that.

Annie found love with Jude, played by Sean Kanan. I still remember them doing it to Santana's "Smooth" before the song became popular. But Meh. It should have been Tim & Annie together in the end. Why SUN never went there I'll never understand (best chemistry ever). They even would have had a great couple name- Tannie! (please no Sarah Buxton jokes)

Yes, definitely! There was always that attraction, especially in the beginning when Tim kept resisting Annie because of his St. Meg.

Oh damn, Annie is just so amazing. I haven't watched the show in awhile, so hearing her sarcastic comments and jokes if a breath of fresh air.

I don't think that there is a Kansas-related insult Annie didn't use while describing Meg. She's just amazing, just like her aunt Bette.

Tim was not leading man material. Annie was a much larger character than he was in so many ways. I dont think they had potential to be a big couple. Maybe a couple of nights of sex. Jude was a much better match for her in so many ways, but unfortunately he came on to late so their story was wrapped up rather quickly

From the 1/14/97 Soap Opera Weekly, Primedia, part two of the "who's who" on Sunset. I can't find the first part right now, sorry. If you've already seen this sorry about that too. The photos are just stock photos basically you might have already seen those, it's of the first Cole and Caitlin, Meg in her farm girl dress on the beach, Randy Spelling, and a B&W headshot of Priscilla Garita.

Sunrise On Sunset

Who's who and who's new on NBC's Sunset Beach

As Aaron Spelling tells Soap Opera Weekly, it's not easy for a new series, especially a series that's one five days a week, to catch on with the discriminating television audience. "We've got to let the audience get used to the characters. I honestly think that they'll stay with us (Sunset Beach) or I wouldn't be doing it."

Spelling's first foray into the daytime arena begins Monday, Jan. 6. "We don't reveal the whole cast for the first week," he says, "though we reveal enough of them that the audience will say, 'Wow, I like this one." But don't get too attached. Spelling has said two of the characters seen during the first week won't make it to week two.

"The two things I love most of all are casting and storytelling, and I think that if our first week isn't exciting, I give up," Spelling continues.

Here is a glimpse at more of the new faces of Sunset.

VANESSA DORMAN

(Caitlin Richards)

Sunset isn't Vanessa Dorman's first daytime soap gig. She once appeared on All My Children, for about five minutes. "I played Josie. She was a campaign manager," recalls the actress with a laugh.

As a voice major at the State University of New York at Purchase, Dorman studied opera. After moving to New York, she became interested in acting, and appeared in Phaedra, The Threepenny Opera and most recently as Liesel in a national touring production of The Sound of Music, with Marie Osmond. Dorman is thrilled about her new career opportunity. "I've always wanted to do daytime. I think once you do it, and can master it, you can do just about anything."

As UCLA coed Caitlin Richards, Dorman's character returns to Sunset Beach on her winter break. "She's a daddy's girl," according to Dorman. "She comes from quite a wealthy background, but she works for what she wants."

RANDY SPELLING

(Sean Richards)

No stranger to television - he starred in the short-lived summer soap Malibu Shores, and recurred as Steve's stepbrother on Beverly Hills, 90210 - Randy Spelling is thrilled about his foray into daytime. "I don't know that much about it. So there's that element of surprise," says the actor, adding that he has discussed the medium with his sister, Tori Spelling. (Donna, 90210). "She watches a lot of daytime, so she's given me some pointers."

Cast as Sean Richards - the son of Gregory and Olivia, and Caitlin's brother - Spelling plays an 18-year old student "who's part of a bunch of scandals that happen. He kind of rebels against his family. He doesn't like the things they do sometimes, especially his day. They don't get along at all," he says.

PRISCILLA GARITA

(Gabi Martinez)

A major soap fan growing up - "I started out with NBC, because my mom used to watch Another World, then I moved over to All My Children and General Hospital" - Priscilla Garita used to daydream about playing Susan Lucci's (Erica, AMC) daughter. "Then they brought her daughter into the story, and I didn't get to audition for it," the actress laments.

Garita did get her soap role. "Now I'm working on an Aaron Spelling soap opera," she says enthusiastically. "It's a much bigger project. I'm moving to California. It's going to be a whole new experience for me."

As Sunset's Gabi, Garita portrays a real go-getter who wants to have the best in life. She wants everything and thinks she's entitled to it," says Garita, "whether it be money, men, clothing or whatever."

ASHLEY HAMILTON

(Cole St. John)

Growing up in the Hollywood spotlight as the son of George Hamilton and Alana Stewart, and stepson of Rod Stewart, Ashley Hamilton seemed destined for a career in show business. "I was raised in both fields, he says. "I got to see the process of films and records being made."

Early on, Hamilton chose acting and began taking drama classes during high school. Those classes paid off quickly; he had his first audition the day after he graduated, for the film Lost in Africa.

Hamilton (who was briefly married to 90210's Shannen Doherty) was meeting with Aaron Spelling's production team about a possible short-term role on Melrose Place when he was approached about Sunset. Hamilton's interest was piqued, he read for the soap, and got the part of Cole St. John, grandson of Armando Deschanel, the romantic founder of the community of Sunset Beach.

"Cole's a charming guy who's traveled a lot. He's very sophisticated for his age," explains Hamilton. "He's a guy who knows what he wants and how to get it. And there's a secret behind him."

SUSAN WARD

(Meg Cummings)

Susan Ward first came to Aaron Spelling's attention when she played the naughty, mean, and manipulative Bree on Malibu Shores. Now she's been cast as outgoing good-girl Meg Cummings on Sunset. "It's the first time I've ever played the nice girl," says Ward, noting that 'it's closer to who I really am and also more low-key. You don't have to be so seductive and as much of a vixen all the time."

A native of Monroe, La., Ward's original career plan was to become a veterinarian. "When I was a little girl, my mom would drop me off at the vet's office and I'd follow him around all day," she says. However, upon being discovered by a modeling agent in a local mall, Ward promptly moved to New York, hooked up with the Ford agency, and things took off in an entirely different direction. "I changed goals and decided to pursue acting instead. I realized that was what I was really passionate about."
