Ron Carlivati Interview with Michael Logan

Chain Of Fools

ABC'S 'One Life To Live' is a mess these days. And I mean that in a good way. An achingly dull catasrophe just a few months ago, OLTL has become the soap to watch under new head writer Ron Carlivati. Hot plots are colliding, laughs are abundant, and the show's many beloved vets - cavalierly ignored by previous head writer Dena Higley - are once again raising hell.

Case in point: Thanksgiving week, Dorian (Robin Strasser) catches her man Clint (Jerry Ver Dorn) in a lip lock with Nora (Hillary B Smith) and retaliates by hitting the sack with her ex-beau David (Tuc Watkins), who just got married to Alex (Tonja Walker).

"Dorian assumes Clint and Nora are having a torrid affair when this is actually their first kiss," Carlivati says. "What Dorian dosn't know - because she ran when she saw the kiss - is that Clint and Nora pulled out of it and said, 'What are we doing?' 'Clint still loves Dorian."

But it may be too late. The chain reaction continues when Clint finds Dorian in bed with David and threatens to blow the guy's head off with a shotgun. Meanwhile, Nigel the butler (Peter Bartlett) has kidnapped Alex to keep Clint from finding out that David is his long lost brother.

Next Month, Carlivati will goose up the all-female Cramer clan by springing Dorian's sister Addie (fan fave Pamela Peyton-Wright) from the insane asylum. She'll make a surprise return for Christmas and - to everyone's shock- will seem perfectly normal. And that will throw control freak Dorian for a loop.

Not all is smooth under Carlivati's watch. Leading man Nathanial Marston (Michael) remains suspended after he was arrested and hospitalized after attacking three men on a Manhattan street last month.

There's still no word if the actor, nortorious for his anger management problems, will ever return. "That decision will be made by the network," Carlivati says. "I'm devastated for Nathanial and everyone involved. It's a huge loss for the show. Its really sad all around."

I don't watch OLTL, but these sound wonderful...I wish Hogan Sheffer would take a lesson from Ron Carlivati in how to write for the vets...

Haha I'm loving what RC is doing with the show. I'd like to see what more he has planned.

That sounds like the best romantic farce in years. I can't wait to see Alex and Nigel together again, that should be awesome. And the Dorian/David/Clint/Nora stuff is fantastic!

Yeah, the twenty-somethings have all had middle-to-back burner storylines since Ron Carlivati debuted. Christian/Sarah/Layla/Vincent/Natalie/Jessica/Nash/Jared/Antonio/Talia have all been in good but light stories, while Dorian/Viki etc. have been the focus.

I wonder why I'm not watching.
