When DePaiva was pregnant in 1997, she didn't care whether her pregnancy was written into OLTL (it was). DePaiva: "Mine was definitely not a planned story event, but I gave Maxine [Levinson] (Executive Producer at the time) a story [idea], and they went with it. She asked for a nine weeks maternity leave and got it. Source: http://www.k-depaiva.com/interviews/baby.htm

Kelly Ripa strongly wanted her 1997 pregnancy to be written into AMC, but it wasn't. Her pregnancy came just as AMC was launching Maria and Erica's baby saga, incorporating another pregnancy story wasn't an option. Ripa was disappointed. She asked for three months off, but ABC Daytime gave her six weeks. Source: http://www.k-depaiva.com/interviews/baby.htm

Maura West became pregnant & left ATWT in 1996.

When Kelly M. Hensley, Maura West, and Martha Bryne became pregnant around the same time, Sheffer had their characters kidnapped by Barbara Ryan so they could hide their growing bellies.

Kari Wurher was fired from GH in 2005. It was reported that JFP didn't like the fact that she became pregnant.

When Martha Byrne was pregnant in 2006, ATWT's Passanante wrote it into the show. To make it easier for taping/maternity leave, Lily was in a coma.

Any more examples of actresses quitting or being fired from the show because they were pregnant? If the actress did stay, was her pregnancy written into the show? If so, how'd they go about it?

Not about quitting or firing, but supposedly the producers on Days out and out told Missy Reeves to get pregnant so that they could backburner her and Matt Ashford's characters in 1992. They did write it into the show, Jennifer gave birth to Abby Deveraux in October that year.

ATWT has been the most pregnant soap in recent years.

In 2000, Maura West, Lesli Kay, and Ellen Dolan were all pregnant at around the same time.

In 2001, Maura, Kelley Hensley, and Martha Byrne.

In 2004, Terri Colombino.

In 2006, Martha Byrne, Maura, and Kelley Hensley.

Both of Melody Thomas Scott's pregnancies were written into Y&R. Years: 1982 & 1988. She's lunky she wasn't fired from the show.

Amelia Heinle's pregnancy was written into the show. The father of Heinle's baby is her husband/co-star, Thad Luckinbill. I don't know who will be the father of Victoria Newman's baby. With LML, it'll probably be a MIUAYG type thing.

    • I LOVED LD on AW...one of my all time favorite characters! However, on OLTL, her character was pretty pointless from the word go. I think trying to make her this character she played decades before was also a bad choice. She should have been a brand new character that could have been tied into the current canvas better. Rae really had no connections or family on the show. Imagine if she had been brought on as a recast Melinda Cramer, freshly released from the hospital. She would have been tied into a major family, be Kelly's mother, and have some real drama to play opposite RS.

    • I agree DZ is doing good work.  It's nice to see him getting meaty material again.  It's just off. Sonny was also low key the voice of reason saying when talking about Gio which I don't love lol.  And, yes, Dante calling a 15? 16? kid who had a couple of beers reckless at heart is silly.  I think most people had a few drinks in high school.  In isolation, the scenes with Jason/Danny were good when he was talking about AJ's drinking problem.  If you ignore everything else about what Jason did to AJ it was a good historic throwback.
    • @janea4old Tricia Mann-Grant also called Leslie a narcissist in the ET special before it premiered. Thank you! Looking forward to it.
    • -- This is maddening. DZ is acting his ass off, but the script is a mess. As you said, if Dante came down hard on Rocco, these outbursts would make some sense. Comparatively, though, Rocco got a pass, and that's just insane. Dante's not only criticizing Danny and Gio, but the people who raised them. It's just nuts. -- And then Dante goes to his father -- the mob boss killer WHO SHOT DANTE -- to declare Danny "reckless at heart." JFC. -- Kai was in the hospital for that dislocated shoulder about 3x as long as Sonny was in the hospital for his heart. Make it make sense.
    • I'm really of the mind now that Leslie really did have that abortion and Eva isn't Ted or her child.
    • Isn’t it thrilling to get that kind of buzz from a performance again? If this show had nothing else going for it (and it has other real strengths, including the actress opposite her), that would be enough to keep me invested.
    • Mike Manning and Brandon Clayborn on Michael Fairman today May 8 at 4pm eastern  (Link to youtube)
    • Very much in the vein of stuff Heather Tom and Sarah Joy Brown struck gold with back in the day.
