Members DramatistDreamer
She ties Venus’ win streak when Venus had to beat Davenport, Capriati, Serena, Henin, Clijsters, Mauresmo and Seles. Back then the weakest link out of that Top 10 was Dementieva and she was a fierce competitor.
Members Soapsuds
Sascha has torn ligaments in his right leg. I'm guessing he is done for the year.
Members DramatistDreamer
I forgot to include “Chuckie” in that list. Oh well.
Members ChitHappens
That is one helluva draw! The weakest top 10 I've ever seen!
Members DramatistDreamer
And I didn’t even include Hingis and Mary Pierce who were pretty big factors during that time period as well. The Top 20 was stacked back then. Neither Williams sister played as much as the other players so they didn’t even play as many events. At the same age, 21, Venus had already won 2 majors, and would win 2 more in the summer had won 2 Olympic gold medals. With that field chock full of future hall of famers. Almost everyone in that Top 10 became a #1. I know people want to compare stats but people also need to compare how strong the competition was at the time.

Members DramatistDreamer
RG title Number 14 for Nadal. A beat down in the final but a prosperous week for Ruud.
Administrator Toups Posted June 5, 2022 Author Administrator Share Posted June 5, 2022 Congrats, Rafa! He’s now two ahead of Novak. The yearly grandslam is definitely possible now.
Members I Am A Swede
I'm not sure about that. I don't think Nadal, with his injury problems, is a realistic challenger at Wimbledon.
Administrator Toups Posted June 5, 2022 Author Administrator Share Posted June 5, 2022 Of course health matters. If he and Novak are healthy at the start of the tournament, they are automatically the top 2 favourites.
Members Soapsuds
Two lackluster finals. Not really a surprise considering how boring most of the matches were this year.
Members I Am A Swede
His win also means that Rafael Nadal now is tied with Steffi Graf in 3rd place on the all-time list with 22 GS singles titles. Could he be the one that finally topples Margaret Court from her top position on that list? It's looking increasingly unlikely that Serena Williams will be able to do that.
Members DramatistDreamer
Oh, both were lackluster but I couldn’t even get through the men’s final. I saw a few minutes of the first set, a few minutes of the second and exactly none of the 3rd set. Sounds like I missed nothing. Also, I am now reading that apparently Nadal beat Ruud with no feeling in one foot? His foot was as numb as the match, I guess.
Members Soapsuds
The highlight was seeing one of my all time favorites Stefan Edberg in the stands.
