Martina Navratilova says she would refuse to play on Margaret Court Arena

MARTINA Navratilova has declared that she would refuse to play on Margaret Court Arena because of the Australian tennis legend’s homophobic views.

Court said she would go crab fishing instead of attending the Australian Open this year, but Navratilova has reignited debate about whether the show court should to bear her name.

“You keep her in the Hall of Fame,” Navratilova told the New York Times.

“That Margaret has definitely homophobic views does not take away those accomplishments, no doubt about that.

“But you do not name a building after her.

“Would you be naming a new building after her now? No, there’s no chance.”

Tennis Australia last week said it had would not consider changing the name of the tennis court after Court’s strong public views against same-sex marriage.

Tennis Australia last week said it had would not consider changing the name of the tennis court

The Pentecostal pastor’s comments led to widespread condemnation among the player cohort, prompting Tennis Australia to distance itself from the sport’s most successful player.

Navratilova said she would refuse to play on the court if she were still an active player, but she told the New York Times she it was unlikely any of today’s players would take that stance.

Navratilova, who has long been out as a lesbian, and Court are members of the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Last week, Australian Open director Craig Tiley told the Herald Sun there had been no indication that players intended on boycotting the arena.

“I speak to the players every day but there have been no requests,” Tiley said.

“I don’t agree with Margaret’s comments.

“They don’t align with my values. They don’t line with our organisation’s values.

“But she’s entitled — we live in a free country — to make whatever comments she wants.

“But with that comes a consequence.

“The consequence is that she’s got a response from us.”

Ryan Harrison already having a meltdown on the court….LOL.  Yelling…."What the bleep is going on?"   and later getting into it with fans and asking the umpire to tell them to be quiet between points…LOL

I guess Ryan thought since he reached a finals two weeks without playing nobody ….he'd do well this week and skipped last week…..he is horrible….he was having a meltdown too the week he made the finals and somehow won…….most of not all the fans are against him….LOL

Wow, of all of the female semifinalists from last year, only Lučić-Baroni is still in the tournament with Serena not playing and Venus and Coco out in the first round.

I'm not watching as I don't want to be sucked in, but with Venus out, I have fewer people to root for anyway.

    • Ashley just wants to schtup Andre. She needed to create a big meltdown in order to get rid of Derek and feel no guilt. Doug needed to lay Joey out on the floor. He needs to get some courage and beat Joey down to the ground. Kat turning down a date with Tomas to see if Eva was locked up is a sign she's going to lose him. Even without Eva in the picture she was going to have problems. The way she talked to him when he bumped into her and she didn't know it was him seemed to be a red flag too. Leslie has revealed a whole lot of the truth on her own. Without her making all those comments to Kat she wouldn't have ended up at the police station.
    • Do we think Shelley Curtis is the director KM said was brought out of retirement to help them set up the production side of BTG?
    • TBH the only soap I remotely liked Cady on was ATWT   I dunno WTH she's doing with Pamela on this show but it's cringe beyond words

) Anyways... I did really feel disgusted by Eurovision this year and I doubt I'll watch this horrific musical torture in the future. My ears and my psyche will not survive.
    • Regarding the mobster storyline: The scripts, the cardroom set, and the writing for Joey -- are all terrible. They seem to be writing a realistic depiction of compulsive gambling as an addiction, showing that it pops into his head all the time -- it has become hardwired into his brain.  The APA (American Psychological Association) describes compulsive gambling as having a similar effect on the physical brain as drug and alcohol addiction. https://www.apa.org/monitor/2023/07/how-gambling-affects-the-brain I think Jason Graham (Doug) is doing an adequate job playing Doug as a compulsive gambler, with the thoughts/urges coming into his head all the time, and being unable to stop. However, the cardroom set is awful and the mobster storyline is a bad cliché, so it's all so uninteresting to watch. I think Mr. Graham is doing the best he can with the crap they gave him to work with. If anyone reading or watching has a gambling issue, check out Gamblers Anonymous.  They have many types of meetings -- in-person, online, video, audio, etc.  They also have resources for friends/family of compulsive gamblers.
    • Today was painful (especially for Philip).  I still feel for Xander. He was clear he was happy sharing and working with Philip. It's just one more betrayal from someone he loved. Going back to last year when he found out about Victor and Fiona, then Alex and Philip. He forgave and tried. Then Philip went behind his back again. He's been walking on the edge for weeks. This is a man who was abused, neglected and has never had any therapy for his horrific past. He has zero coping skills because he's never learned them. I hate this but I refuse to hate Xander
