Well, that was embarrassing for Kei. For a top player who can be so dangerous, he sure can tank big matches.

I'm one of those rare Nole fans, so I'm happy with the result. Murray looked vulnerable against Raonic (who really should have won today), so it'll be interesting to see what level he brings against Djokovic tomorrow.

Almost nothing has been interesting about this year's WTF.

A friend of mine who is attending tells me the scheduling has been an utter mess. Kei looked spent today and seemed to have nothing to offer.

We had Murray playing some loooonnng matches (including one against Kei days ago) and Djokovic with a quickie match today.

I'm not sure I'm going to watch the final because I think the result is going to be predictable and I'm just not that interested in another Murray/Djokovic encounter.

@Faulkner No problem, you should always feel good about rooting for your fave. Not everyone will agree but we all have our favorites. I can respect that.

I have been watching this match. Murray looks the more focused, he wants to win in straight sets, probably because he has spent more time on court and realizes the danger of going into a 3 set match against Djokovic, who looks surprisingly lackluster. I didn't expect that. I thought Djokovic would be raring to go considering he didn't spend much time on court but he looks flat and is playing flat, so far.

The match was boring as usual. I didn't see most of it but what I saw describes your post. Novak looked like he didn't give one damn if he won or not. His game has gone downhill since Paris and he doesn't seem to care. I do believe it's because Rafa and Roger have been pretty much nonexistent this year. He has no one to really spark his fire. I am sure he knows in his heart that Murray is just rope a dope tennis when he plays him.

Unless someone brand new emerges out of nowhere, this is bad news for the ATP Tour. Roger and Rafa are not going to be around forever and none of these other guys are currently stepping up.

During the Djokovic/Nishikori match someone literally shouted out "I miss you Roger!"

Some people may be tired of Roger and Rafa but they sell tickets. I was told that there were still some empty seats (though I couldn't tell on TV) whereas the last few years they were sold out.  In a city where Murray is the hometown hero.

Roger does bring in the crowd. Too bad I missed the fan that yelled that out about him. Murray being number 1 and winning the season finale tourney makes tennis future even more bleak. Murray is such a boring player to watch....even worse than Joker.  Tennis is in bad shape and the future doesn't look promising.

American tennis, I think is a separate issue from the health of the WTA though.  In the era of Steffi and Monica tennis was big as well. Yes, it would be nice is Vicki Duval could be healthy and playing to her potential or if Taylor Townsend could get her life together (Taylor could have big marketing potential also) but someone like a Naomi Osaka (who just needs a little more self belief and consistency in big matches) has also proved very popular on a global level.

Viktoria Azarenka was never the most popular player but I bet when she returns from maternity leave, her popularity will increase.

As much as I don't like Sharapova, she does have a lot of fan/media interest and Serena does love to play her.

Of course the Williams Sisters don't even need to be anyhwere near a tennis court to generate interest.

Both the ATP and WTA have done a terrible job of harnessing the interest in their players. They got lucky with the likes of Venus and Serena and Roger and Rafa. Monfils is popular but they call him names and he wavers between wanting to quit the game and wanting to fulfill his potential but if you asked him the % in terms of how much he enjoys tennis, I wouldn't be surprised if it is as low as Nick Kyrgios' assessment.

I think the WTA really just needs to help their players stay healthy and some of those interesting players will rise. The ATP needs to figure out a way to have a balance between letting their most dynamic players show their personalities without it getting out of control. You don't want another John McEnroe or Ilie Nastase but you don't want to squash people's personalities and identities.

The American players on the ATP side need to develop a way of playing tennis that incorporates something other than serve and forehand. I'm hoping that Tiafoe, Mmoh and Fritz will not be afraid to develop a wider array of shots into their repertoire than the group that came before them.

    • Beverlee was on a whole other level from Kim. It's not like they were in competition with each other. I get the feeling that Kim had a slight problem with the super-professional, serious cast members who just wanted everyone to be prepared and do the work, as she seems to like having fun on set. (She's made a few cracks about Chris Bernau being like that). Bev was definitely one of those. But they didn't work together that much. Yeah, they made her manic and also much weaker. She always had a vulnerability, but wanting to kill herself over that guy? No way. Not only that, he didn't leave her! She insisted he marry Maeve. When they did the tribute to Bert/Charita, the compilation of scenes with her showed how much the cast had been completely decimated. Almost every shot was of her by herself because nearly everyone she had worked with had been fired, left or been replaced.

    • A little too much focus on Chad and Cat today but I enjoyed the episode. I have a feeling that Jennifer’s gonna get dumped on though, even though I think that her anger is completely understandable and justified. And honestly, Ron is finally gone; Abigail can come back now.  But, welcome back, Anna! It was nice seeing Carrie have scenes with her mother. Christie Clark and Leann Hunley have never really had that many scenes together and to see them have them now is really nice. I’m glad that both of them were there to comfort Marlena too. Their words were definitely the thing that Marlena needed to hear. Btw, with all this talk of Noah, does it mean that he’s gonna be introduced soon? Amy, revealing that John changed her flat tire many years ago seemed a little random though. I would rather she have said something about how everybody in Salem knows of John Black because of how he was always such a hero. But at the same time, her story also showed what a great guy John was.  I liked Kate’s scenes with Philip too, and her promise to get back at Xander for what he did. And since we didn’t see JPL in the bed, did he need some time off or something? And yeah, everything involving ‘One Stormy Night’ still seems very Ron-like to me.
    • The second photo featuring the late John Spencer is from the Law & Order episode, "Prescription For Death", which was the (second) pilot/first episode all the way back in 1990! He played the father of a daughter that had gone to the ER for a mere sore throat but ended up dead because the doctor on call was drunk and had given her medication that she had an adverse reaction to, after receiving some other medication. So, he will always have that great distinction in addition to The West Wing. (The first pilot, "Everybody's Favorite Bagman", was filmed in 1988! The show was offered to CBS, but they passed. In syndication, it is oddly placed as the sixth episode of Season 1. And Roy Thinnes played DA Alfred Wentworth there. When NBC picked up the show two years later, Thinnes declined to return, and that's how we got Steven Hill's DA Adam Schiff.)
    • exactly. I can understand schadenfreude if it were real, but a lot of this is just an engineered distraction.
    • Days of our Lives S60E204 – Thursday, June 5, 2025 Okay, today’s episode was kind of boring. It was nice seeing Jack and Jen back, but they wasted an entire episode on Jen chatting with Julie - one scene would’ve been enough. Also, why didn’t Jack and Jen go comfort Marlena? And wouldn’t a flashback with Jack, Jen, and John have been great? Maybe something from the Cruise of Deception era? Bottom line - it feels like once John’s memorial is over and the returning fan favorites leave Salem… the show’s going to be dull again.
    • Everything with Elon and Trump is a stunt. If people, and the sycophantic press, are talking about their "feud," they are not talking about Republican plans to gut Medicare, Medicaid, and the ACA.
    • I can't fully remember, but I don't think they tried to get Beth Chamberlin back. I think Laibson/McTavish likely saw Beth as old news and wanted to move Philip on; either that or have her return only when Philip was closely tied to a new woman. Thanks as always for these recaps. I think I had stopped watching around this time and mostly kept up by reading in the soap magazines. Bridget's degradation was horrible to watch, as the character had grown so much over the years and was clearly regressed just to be a foil for a "hot" couple viewers had zero investment in.
    • Having the majority of the cast on those low numbers is no way to tell story. And just 2 dayplayers for the month. So sad for the #1 soap.
