Very rarely did the Carey's get the number one spot. Babe just barely got the top spot over Kendell last year and even then it was only by one episode that Babe won. You are completely right it's not new. Most of these character's were airtime hogs during the Megan days (with the exception of Annie). But there is a major difference. Zendell/Greenlee/Ryannie are the ONLY dramatic story on this show. No one else is doing anything. B&E are mostly just doing fluff.

I don't agree. I don't believe Megan crammed Ryannie down veiwers throats. I think that was an interim writer thing. Annie only started getting major airtime when nuGreenlee arrived on the scene, prior to that I don't remember her being on as much.

Also there is a difference between B&E and MMT. Even at her worst Megan had other stories going on(craptastic as they were), B&E only have Zendell/Greenlee/Ryannie storyline that sucks up almost the entire week while they fill everything else up with Fluff.

I wish Thorsten was getting the juicy stuff. Wish that the current story, was just dealing Zen with a premature Ian. Don't get me wrong , Thorsten and Alicia are keeping me interersted in this story, just wish it was a Zen and Ian not a Zen and Ian and Ryannie and Spike and Greenlee story. JMHO

Uh how has Zach been getting juicy stories for years now? He's JUST started getting a storyline that was his own with the satin slayer storyline, that was the FIRST time he's gotten a storyline that was about HIM and no one else.

PUHLEEZE, Zach and Kendall just started getting the airtime they've earned. Personally I'm sick of the bitching about it. Zen fans are finally getting to see their couple for more than 2.4 seconds McTrash constantly gave us for years. Zen is FINALLY getting their own storylines that doesn't revolve around Ryan, Greenlee or Ryan's sperm

WORD Ryan & R Sinclair B)

I don't agree. Zendell started getting the good storylines back in April/May of 2006. Are we forgetting that Zach went to pregnancy island and kidnapped Kendell and then ended up on that boat and they were married? Are we forgetting about how Spike came into the world? Zendell started getting thier own storyline back then. The whole Dixie affiar that summer was a Zendell story. Their entire breakup/make up was a Zendell story. As was a portion of the Madden murder mystery

Soaps should always be an ensemble. Too much of AMC is focused on Zendall, Greenlee, Ryannie, and Ava. Plus, Zendall, Ryannie, and Greenlee are in the same orbit, that's not a good thing. These characters need to go off and do their own thing, they can still be connected, but right now they're TOO CONNECTED. It's hard to think of one without the other.

It would be nice if more characters were added to the mix, to have a strong B story. Right now, AMC's B storyline is almost nonexistent.

While I would agree that it has become the Zendall-Ryan-Greenlee show, I actually don't see that as a problem. This is a major storyline, one that the writers say will drive stories for the next year. For that to happen, it has to have a great deal of attention now. And while the focus is on those four, it's also showcased Erica, Jack, Annie, and Josh, and brought out the best in most of them (even making Annie and Josh likable). There are so many interesting directions it can go in from here. I would argue that this is a real umbrella story, which is gradually involving more and more members of the cast. I think soon it will branch off into many different stories.

I'm really thrilled to see so much cast interaction in this story. My primary show is gh (though I've watched AMC on and off for years), so I'm used to characters being completely isolated. It's lovely to see one story here involving so many characters. And unlike the baby that ate Port Charles, this story has a lot of potential and should result in a great deal of character growth.

So yes, the story isn't perfect, but I think B&E have done a pretty good job with it. I'm optimistic.

    • Bill and Smitty was the best part of today. I like the parallel that was drawn between them as "Dupree outsiders." It's similar to Bill's friendship with Ted and I enjoy both of the relationships that Bill has with them. I seriously wonder if anybody behind the scenes thought that the character of Bill was going to be as well liked as he is.  Btw, I see that they're not covering up Mike Manning's tat

Pamela talking like Bernadette Peters isn't really working for me though lol neither is Naomi and Jacob's part in June's storyline.  But I am interested in what's going to happen once Jacob gets Leslie to the police station.

date: Friday, May 16 | Gregori J. Martin, Lynn Martin | Phideaux Xavier Anita and Vernon versus Bill – I love it. Is Vanessa a dominatrix? That's kind of kinky, and Cody seems to love it, too! I love seeing Dana and Ted's dynamic right now; you can sense some kind of passion, and it's differing on both sides. I appreciate us building a connection between Bradley and Nicole. So, we've got the names of the Articulettes: Anita, Sharon and Tracy. A one-night-only kind of performance. Hoping they can pull this off. Dani and Pamela are a hoot together; I love their banter, and I'm so happy to see this friendship continuing to develop on screen. The anvil of Jacob and Naomi liking June being around; that's got to lead to something, no? Douglas, stop playing powerball with Joey. So Nicole wants to sell the house? Girl is jumping over divorce and right to the settling of the assets; thankfully, Vanessa has the keen sense to deny the offer to list the property. Notes: I like seeing different connections being built between characters right now: Bill and Bradley, Dani and Pamela, and Nicole and Vanessa. It's nice seeing things settling. I loved the scene of Pamela cooing over Joey's Instagram, given Cady McClain and Jon Lindstrom's real-life relationship history.
    • Boy, do I agree with this. These writers HAVE to know what they're doing when they add those "We're the Duprees" lines....at least I pray to God they do. If they don't, they're clueless. This family is -- like most families -- deeply flawed and going through it. There's something tone deaf about the "We're the Duprees" pronouncements all over the place.
    • Very interesting in what meal Anita and Tracy share.
    • Thanks for sharing your memories. It's so special to get to talk with your mother about a soap she watched when she was younger that you now watch. '70s feminism had to be much tougher, and other than maybe Search for Tomorrow (where the Kathy character is mostly unavailable in '70s form), Ryan's Hope may be the only soap that delved into this. Jill is such a fascinating character, one I'm not surprised was polarizing with viewers. So much about her probably shouldn't have worked, especially when you think of all the backstory thrown at viewers immediately (a previous love affair with Jack, being adopted and never feeling at home in the Coleridge family, being Frank's "other woman" for much of the decade). Nancy Addison was just so special, and the entitlement and arrogance of Jill felt offset by her vulnerability (which was not the case for the rest of her family).  Mary was also very important for feminist debates, and likely more popular with the audience, but I never really connected with her the way I did with Jill. Maybe because the inherent smugness of the Ryans felt like a wall.  Sometimes I wonder if it perversely helped Jill as a character that she was lumped with a complete dud of a partner for a year and a half, because it humanized her - why are you sacrificing your dignity for this loser?  @safe Thanks for reminding me of more Sarah Felder backstory. A great deal I had forgotten. I appreciate her sticking up for the Pat/Nancy story if it was struck down due to prejudice, but there was so much else wrong with that pairing (I say that as one of the few John Blazo fans). I suppose the narrative about Felder is just too easy to believe (and she never has spoken about her time on the show).
    • Leslie uses Tide with Downy and not the Tide with Oxi!
    • I am not sure either, but I'm riding with the outsiders regardless. There was an opportunity to use Anita to ground the family and make you root for them.  I wonder do they still have chemistry, I thought they did at ATWT.
    • Cady McClain and Jon Lindstrom had a scene together!!  They're either friendly (which is great) or they're just professionals (which is great).
