Characters who shouldn't have died

For me, it's Dixie on AMC. I waited 18 years for Tad and Dixie to have a child together, and just as we were going to get that, tiic dropped the bomb and fired Cady McClain. Dixie's death was the last day I watched AMC, and I don't miss it at all, after being a loyal fan for 30 years

I agree and it also killed off their central heroine. Lucy lost her main rival as well. Eve being killed made Alison the central heroine and while she was good, it wasn't the same. PC screwed over the Eve/Ian fanbase and the Lucy/Kevin one.

I also think Karen shouldn't have died either. It was pointless.

Frankie Frame and Ryan Harrison from AW were two horrible mistakes, as was Carl Hutchins.

Most of the others were mentioned already.

Leo Dupres, All My Children

I miss Leo so much. Such a rich character and they killed him off. They should have just killed off Greenlee at that point since after she died her character was pretty much destroyed with all those awful romances with Carlos, Juan Pablo and eventually Ryan.

I also agree with killing off Al Holden, One Life To Live as well as Jennifer Rapport from the same show.

There are alot of deaths I felt were unneeded. Cassie from Y&R, Jennifer from ATWT,ect.

GH

Danny McCall - marked the end of any human side to Sam McCall.

AJ Quartermaine - proved that the hack Mr. Pratt was only interested in plot.

Alan Quartermaine - anyone finding a reason for his death? Didn't think so, it was pointless.

OLTL

Keri Reynolds - a character with the rare ability to make Antonio likable, they wrote her into a corner and took her dignity away. I suppose, in a way, they probably did the right thing by throwing her off that balcony then.

I'm on the fence about Maureen Reardon's death on GL. It created lots of good emotional drama, but destroyed the show further on in the future.

Here's my list for GL:

Phillip Spaulding

Ross Marler

Jackie Marler

Jenna Bradshaw

Nadine Cooper

Sarah Shayne

ABC is the home of killing off characters that I love. Gillian, AJ, Alan, Karen, etc., etc. the list goes on.

I don't think there's a character on DAYS that I thought never should have been killed off lol.

I actually loved Tico Santi on OLTL.... not.

If you go to YouTube and search Maureen Bauer, someone has posted all the episodes souroounding the car accident and her death. Now that was a character who should never have died. Peter Simon and Liz Sloan did some amaxing work that week. If only that stint at GL would have destrioyed JFP's career and end her reign of terror.

AMC------Dixie Cooney, Jenny Gardner Nelson, Gillian Andrassy Lavery, Natalie Dillon

ATWT----Jake McKinnon, Bryant Montgomery, Jennifer Munson Donovan

GH----A.J. Quartermaine, Alan Quartermaine, Rick Webber, Courtney Matthews

ONE LIFE----Duke Buchanan, Drew Buchanan, Megan Gordon Harrison, Al Holden, Gabrielle Medina, Jen Rappaport

PORT CHARLES----Eve Lambert Thornhart, Karen Wexler (--GH could easily bring Karen back to life since them seemingly don't count as PC ever existing).

EDGE OF NIGHT----Nicole Cavanaugh

I think the soap deaths that have affected me the most were:

Dixie Cooney Martin (both times, but this last time the most....bc its without a doubt permanent and was totally unexpected)

Gillian Andrassy Lavery (why did she have to die????)

Maria Santos Grey (although she came back to life and now I don't really miss her much bc Edmund/Maria reunion sucked the big one)

Natalie Dillon (although had Kate Collins played out the role of Natalie to her death, then it would have affected me even more)

    • Honestly, they should've ordered more of 2000 Malibu Road for the 1992-93 midseason and aired it when Knots went on a break. That was probably their best shot.    Then of course they fumbled Central Park West by airing it in the 9PM slot instead of a 10PM slot where it would've been away from the Fox dramas. CPW got its best rating by airing randomly on a Sunday and when it was taken off the air for a "re-tooling", Party of Five's ratings actually had a spike, so clearly they were feeding off each other. But being a smaller network focused on a certain demographic, Fox could afford to be patient Party of Five, CBS couldn't...
    • Agree on Bruce Gray as Owen; they needed to cast star power. He was too lightweight against Kim and he had no chemistry with Frances Fischer except more gay buddy or daddy figure.  I loved Nola and Eliot together though. Lee Godart should have been longer term.
    • Andre has the worst fashion of the males which is off putting for someone as fine as he is. His jackets and sweaters look dated and no vintage does not work for him
    • I don’t recall MSW having a toy line in the late 80’s or early 90’s like all those Saturday morning cartoons did LOL but thought this was cute when I saw it in a vintage toy store yesterday:

    • Copying and pasting pasting this here as to not to derail the KL thread lol Wow I forgot CBS actually did try multiple attempts to come up with a soapy replacement for Knots on Thursday nights in the 10/9 slots for the 93-94 season.   Angel Falls had promise but CBS didn’t give it a fair chance. Latham’s Second Chances got even worse ratings than Angel Falls and wasn’t given a second chance when the Northridge quake destroyed the show’s sets. One West Waikiki looked gorgeous but was a blink you missed it affair. Finally we got Hotel Malibu, a quasi follow-up to Second Chances that stayed as the summer replacement series it was. CBS switched gears and had Chicago Hope air in the slot…against ER. It made the Top 30 but obviously underperformed below expectations. CBS gave up, and gave us 48 Hours for years there. It wasn’t until the 2002-03 season when CBS finally produced a Top 20 show for that spot with Without A Trace against an aging ER.
    • Of course I join in on wishing that Peacock & Corday & Sony would all together come to the conclusion that NOW would be a fine time to put some of these gems in the archive on full display!!! But, at the same time I'd like to give kudos to the fact that behind the scenes they've been doing the great work of preservation by taking tapes, etc. & converting them to modern digital formats. Besides the important fact of preserving them it means they are ready to go!

    • Bill and Hayley’s living room set should be redressed as their bedroom. We’ve not seen their gorgeous circular entry way set since the first week? Why not utilise that more and build them a living room off those double doors? The hotel room also doesn’t have a bed? Does only Dani have a bedroom?
