Characters who shouldn't have died

Dixie on All My Children. One of the biggest mistakes AMC ever did, and I hope they regret it. Absolutely no reason to kill off Dixie. None.

Al on OLTL & Courtney on GH are also ones I think we're a mistake.

While I read this all the time and understand it, I don't think you can give one character that much power, unless you definitely want the show's matriarch to be a Bauer. After seeing clips of Vanessa jumping into action during Mo's memorial, I think she should have been groomed as the heir to that role. And what would be more progressive than having a divorcee married to a younger man as an emotional anchor? Ed was a patriarch, but totally flawed. I think writers make a bold decision like this and then follow it up with bad ones that make us question the first move. Ed's stories were uneventful after Mo died, and then the family's place on the show was dismantled. But it didn't have to be that way because she died.

While I totally agree about Jake because of the saga to find Bridget and Michelle and Lucinda finally getting a male playmate in the tradition of Craig or Kirk, I disagree about Bryant. Lucy has the same ties Bryant did, so not all is lost. If the writers concentrated on Craig having a life long vendetta against Jennifer when he died, you might have seen it differently. Instead he went on trying to bed Carly and Rosanna.

For my own choices, I'll add:

Neal, ATWT - Because Samantha couldn't hold a candle to her, as far as Lucinda's sisters went.

Y&R

Phillip III (stupid attempt to create a Nina/Jill rivalry like Kay/Jill -- what a flop)

Cassandra Rawlings (Paul had an awesome story with her. Killed her off so that Brad could become really rich.)

Ryan (Wholly unnecessary. The character and actor were so well liked.)

ATWT

Jennifer III (Paul/Emily child, so much story lost for the future. Barbara/James/Susan genes in that kid.)

Rose (The trashier/better side of MB)

David

B&B

Carolyn

Macy (both times)

I agree with posters above that Dixie, Gillian and Simone from AMC shouldn't have died, but for me the worst death was Natalie. I know Kate Collins left and the re-cast, Melody Anderson, didn't 'click', but I wish they could have made Nat 'soap opera dead' (you know, no body found or something) instead of "DEAD dead".

Still not convinced Dixie is really dead for good. I'm sure they will lure Cady McLain back at some point.

    • Honestly, they should've ordered more of 2000 Malibu Road for the 1992-93 midseason and aired it when Knots went on a break. That was probably their best shot.    Then of course they fumbled Central Park West by airing it in the 9PM slot instead of a 10PM slot where it would've been away from the Fox dramas. CPW got its best rating by airing randomly on a Sunday and when it was taken off the air for a "re-tooling", Party of Five's ratings actually had a spike, so clearly they were feeding off each other. But being a smaller network focused on a certain demographic, Fox could afford to be patient Party of Five, CBS couldn't...
    • Agree on Bruce Gray as Owen; they needed to cast star power. He was too lightweight against Kim and he had no chemistry with Frances Fischer except more gay buddy or daddy figure.  I loved Nola and Eliot together though. Lee Godart should have been longer term.
    • Andre has the worst fashion of the males which is off putting for someone as fine as he is. His jackets and sweaters look dated and no vintage does not work for him
    • I don’t recall MSW having a toy line in the late 80’s or early 90’s like all those Saturday morning cartoons did LOL but thought this was cute when I saw it in a vintage toy store yesterday:

    • Copying and pasting pasting this here as to not to derail the KL thread lol Wow I forgot CBS actually did try multiple attempts to come up with a soapy replacement for Knots on Thursday nights in the 10/9 slots for the 93-94 season.   Angel Falls had promise but CBS didn’t give it a fair chance. Latham’s Second Chances got even worse ratings than Angel Falls and wasn’t given a second chance when the Northridge quake destroyed the show’s sets. One West Waikiki looked gorgeous but was a blink you missed it affair. Finally we got Hotel Malibu, a quasi follow-up to Second Chances that stayed as the summer replacement series it was. CBS switched gears and had Chicago Hope air in the slot…against ER. It made the Top 30 but obviously underperformed below expectations. CBS gave up, and gave us 48 Hours for years there. It wasn’t until the 2002-03 season when CBS finally produced a Top 20 show for that spot with Without A Trace against an aging ER.
    • Of course I join in on wishing that Peacock & Corday & Sony would all together come to the conclusion that NOW would be a fine time to put some of these gems in the archive on full display!!! But, at the same time I'd like to give kudos to the fact that behind the scenes they've been doing the great work of preservation by taking tapes, etc. & converting them to modern digital formats. Besides the important fact of preserving them it means they are ready to go!

    • Bill and Hayley’s living room set should be redressed as their bedroom. We’ve not seen their gorgeous circular entry way set since the first week? Why not utilise that more and build them a living room off those double doors? The hotel room also doesn’t have a bed? Does only Dani have a bedroom?
