AMC: Do you think the new head writers will turn AMC around?

Yup, people should not be putting people down. I like Zendell right now. :) I agree with you also. Yes AMC is stale but there are good things in the show. The new HW can still have Zendell and still have AMC better. :)

Everyone just keeps saying that nope AMC will not come back. I have faith it will. We as AMC fans we hope for the best and not think of the wrost!

I guess I'm too positive cause I have faith and I'm going to give the new writer's a chance to prove themselves.

The umbrella storyline they're starting off with is going to be good, dramatic and very very soapy. The kind of stuff I used to live for on soaps, and the kind of stuff AMC has been lacking for years.

Ok guys lets tone it down and reign it in a little here. We must remember everyone here is entitled to their opinion, but within reason. Don't attack another member just because they do not share the same opinion as you. As always we encourage lively discussion here, but not where it is insulting other members.

B&E wrote good stuff on PC, and I've read good stuff about their time on GL and other soaps. They sure know how to write for characters and couples on soaps. They wrote good stuff for Rafe/Ali and others on PC.

Thanks Adam, I didn't feel I did anything that deserved getting jumped on for. If I came across as attacking anyone it wasn't my intention, but dang if getting attacked didnt make me see red....

From SID:

From SID:

It's A Whole New ABC!

With new headwriters at the helms of AMC and OLTL, fans of the ABC Daytime sudsers have high hopes for the months ahead in Pine Valley and Llanview. But what, exactly, can viewers expect from the new scribes? Luckily for Soaps In Depth readers, we got the answers from the writers themselves!

The In Depth Story:

After months of lacking an official head writer, AMC now has veteran soap scribes Barbara Esensten and James Harmon Brown navigating the show. And first on the agenda for the duo is the diversification of the rather Caucasian town of Pine Valley. "We're well aware of that," chuckles Brown. "It's also a very young place to be. We really want to create a world that's ethnically and culturally diverse, and a place where kids can be kids, which I think is a definite need for this particular show and one that we're addressing. I think it's important, in all those different areas, to have color on the show, and younger people on the show." Brown's partner adds that while the change won't happen overnight, it is in the works. "We're creating a way where maybe it can happen more quickly," notes Esensten, referring to the recent casting notices posted by AMC for both younger and African-American characters. "Our goal is to have the canvas be more representative of real life." Rest assured, longtime viewers, the scribes have plans in store for the current cast as well. "Obviously, not everybody can be in the A story, but what we try to do With all stories is make them have enough branches from the central plot to be able to play", explains Brown "So for a character who is not directly involved in whatever the main event is, we want there to enough of a connection to play then where it makes sense."

Actually today we had:

Ruth Martin

Joe Martin

Opal Cortland

Marian Chandler

Stuart Chandler

Adam Chandler

Tad Martin

Erica Kane

Jack Montgomery

Barbara Montgomery

We had mentions and a flashback of Jenny, Grandma Kate, Dixie.

Today was all about the vets, and I loved it! :)

I am glad they used those vets today but what tom. and the next day and the next day??? When they start using them consistently and actually give them quality storylines, not just window dressing, I will be very happy. At that point, AMC might actually be back on track!

    • As you all know, my memories are sketchy, and at the time of this story, GH was probably at its most awful in its history.  I think Patsy Rahn was still playing Monica at this time, and her Monica was not written as a sympathetic character, so maybe that's why the viewers were able to forgive Steve, because it appears Steve was more interested in saving Jeff's life than Rick-infatuated Monica was.
    • If the shooter is Arnold, I am not going to be happy.

Agreed.  Again, I really like the pace of the mystery. RonC always wrote a shocking crime, then it would be solved only through exposition at the end.  I feel like the audience is being shown some respect by them carefully closing all the loopholes.  For example, having Shawn-D call Rafe to turn in his gun was a clever device to get Gabi to confess. As much as I agree with @carolineg about the odd shift in Sophia's character, this plot is starting to make me angry.  A woman is denied an abortion and forced to raise a child?  It is gross.  The stomach pains are a hopeful foreshadowing.  But, if she fakes pregnancy, or hides his miscarriage, I am going to scream!!! Roman continues to be a mench, but I have to admit that I can never keep track of the difference between Max and Benjy.  I guess it helps that Benjy is dead.  Is Max still related to Carly?
    • If Sally Field had been more generous about the writing I would say that her assessment is really very fair. I found Soapdish very funny. The cast is great. Delirious with John Candy and Mariel Hemingway (and Emma Samms!) came out the same year and I had expected to prefer Delirious, but Soapdish is one that I can watch repeatedly.
    • I love SOAPDISH but I think TOOTSIE is better. Generally I am quite fond of gender-benders. VICTOR, VICTORIA, most favorite.
    • On GL we only saw young GA's Philip in very short shorts but on AMC we saw GA's Alec McIntyre in a speedo.  But, on GL, an older GA/Philip is having sex with Olivia in a hotel room where Bruce Barry was directing & he & she both end up down to nothing but black underwear & at one point his bicep is covering her entire upper body so it appears that she is naked. I think they ended up on the floor between the bed & the wall. That was when I realized that Grant's body was better than Steve Burton's. (Olivia was cheating. Her husband Alan was in the hospital.) It is notable that I can speak with any insight AT ALL about these bodies since that is not the team I play for! LOL
    • I mentioned that last week and I am glad Tate and Sophia just realized that today lol.  I think the show is just tying up some of Ron's loose ends.   You would think Brady, Holly or even Marlena would have perhaps pointed out the age thing to Tate at some point. I am not sure I like this shift in Sophia's characterization though.  MK played Sophia as someone who always defied her mom's rules-she just didn't get caught.  She was openly trying to steal Tate from Holly with no shame, showing up at the Horton cabin in bikinis to seduce him, and blackmailing Holly to work all her shifts at the Bistro.  Once the recast started the show has acted like Sophia's lived in her room, sheltered her entire life lol.
    • I thought Dante was going to put hands on Gio
    • If Jordan never appeared again, I would absolutely not notice or miss her.  So, while Brook Kerr has her flaws, she at least appears to have a pulse and a personality as Portia.
    • That's because India, or the India MKA ended up playing, was created due to the fact that both she and Kristi Farrell were liked by TPTB, but the part they both read for didn't exactly fit either one of them so the show created two brand new characters for both actresses to play (India and Roxie) and opted not to cast the character they were intending to cast (A cousin of Beth's). I think that's why the show seemed to struggle at first with how to write both India and Roxie in their first months on the show because the characters weren't ever intended to exist.  And yes.. Grant A had a great body... but I didn't find him hot when he was playing Phillip.. only when he was playing Alec on AMC which baffles me since it was the same actor in both parts LOL
    • I shared this on Twitter and good grief the comments. Steffy fans can be such vile real-life human beings over a fictional character lol.
